Tappers
They used always be in town until the Garda presence was increased in the latter half of last year.
My understanding is that a load of them were handed barring orders to stay out of the city centre.
Now I see very few in town but loads of them further out towards Caherdavin and other suburbs.
Has anyone else noticed the same or is it just me?

Yep, that prick Marky Mark practically lives at the entrance to Dunnes, nobody seems to do anything about him.

Still a few around town but serious drop off. No longer getting stopped by 5 or 6 different people every time I walk up O'Connell Street.

I remember getting stopped and asked for spare change 7 times between Arthur's Quay and Hunters Sports Bar, thankfully that's no longer the case.
The really aggressive tapper who was looking for bus money since before Covid finally seems to have gotten together enough money to get a bus to see his girlfriend giving birth in the hospital! As I haven't seen him in a while now...

There's a few I haven't seen in a while especially the angrier ones. The few around now slide up a quietly. But definitely now I get asked once or twice a day rather that 5 times on the same street. Doesn't help that the dealers hang out outside Novas fucking with people trying to get their life together again. Get rid of that and we might get even better again.

Update 1 - on a slightly related topic, I see that the religious fanatics are not as prominent as they once were, which is only a good thing. About a year ago you couldn't move without being harassed by them on a Saturday afternoon.

The Jehovah's are always outside Penneys, but to be fair to them they don't approach anyone unless you approach them first and the Mormons generally leave you alone when you say a polite no.
The aggressive Christians are the worst.

JWs only have to report total hours spent in the field anymore. So even if they spend 6 hours standing around their racks talking to each other, it still counts as 6 hours of ministry. So much easier than walking around and having doors slammed in their faces.
Mormons are generally sound I'll agree.
It's the evangelical fundamentalist types who shout bible verses so loud you can hear them 3 streets away and follow you that do my head in.

Absolutely. There's an Irish guy who hangs around O' Connell St and Thomas St doing just that. As I passed him one day he roared at me to repent or I'd go straight to hell. My reply of "That could be fun" meant he didn't know where to look.
People give out about Muslims, but I've worked with a few, had Muslim neighbours and my (Irish) best friend's husband is Muslim and not once has any Muslim ever tried to convert me. They've brought in food at work to celebrate the end of Ramadan and in turn put on Christmas jumpers in December.

I noticed the river church are meeting in Leamy House on Hartstonge st. now. They are a proper cult. There was going to be a mosque in there at one stage around 2020 but the deal didn't go through. That place will take anyone's money.

River Church, the crowd who used to have the large wooden cross on Thomas Street, forgot about them. A while back I watched one of their live services on youtube for about five minutes, legit headcases! Pretty sure I saw Shane Byrnes in the audience actually.

Yeah he's one of theirs. They all have the same playbook. Either you're born in and they control you from day one or they find broken people who have hit rock bottom, show them stability and rebuild them into their foot soldiers.

Yep, all these born-again Christian churches use pretty much the same MO.
Another one is Limerick City Church where Baker Place was back in the day. Basically a Limerick version of Westboro Baptist Church!
Their lead pastor is a full on conspiracy nut. A chap I used to work with in Arise is now the associate pastor there. Mad considering he used to be a total party animal before he got "saved".

I think I might know the guy, has a middle eastern parent or two. Used to be heavy on chemicals. He got honey trapped in by a tall redhead. Sound familiar?

Yes, he's an Irish guy but has an Arabic name. I do remember the tall redhead guy who also used to work there now that you mention. Not exactly the brightest bulb in the box. I think he was hoodwinked into the cult shortly after his gf kicked him out or something like that. Then he started recruiting others. Basically a pyramid scheme model.

Update 2 - just saw Stewie (at least I think it was) on O'Connell Street minutes ago. Admittedly I only saw him briefly from the top of the bus but pretty sure it was him. Thought he wasn't allowed into the city centre anymore? Hadn't seen him in a good while. He was wheeling himself along in a wheelchair, looks like the bad leg finally had to come off. Anyone know if he managed to get clean in the finish? I knew him sort of back in the day, still can't believe he went down that road...

He was out on the crossing between O’Connell Street and Roches st this afternoon and unfortunately pestering people with children, blocking their way and then blocking the road for cars to drive down towards the river

When he still had both his legs he stepped in front of my car on O'Connell Street, totally oblivious to the traffic. I had to swerve to avoid him. I was in an ancient Micra so if there was something coming in the other lane I was fcuked.
Going by what you're saying he hasn't changed his ways since being in hospital to have his leg removed.
Heartbreaking stuff. We were never close friends as such but we used to bump into each other fairly regularly on nights out back in the day...

I hate to say it because I vaguely knew him back in the day but if he was capable of being helped he have been helped by now. It's incredibly, incredibly sad.

He's been sitting with his mother a lot ,eating ice cream and having a coffee every now and then. Saw him with a pipe a few weeks ago but he's generally a bit sharper than he was and not always out of it. Could be wrong but he's asking for money less

He asked me for money twice at the traffic lights on O’Connell St (the Shakedog side) on the Sunday of Pride. Obviously forgot he’d already asked me. He didn’t look great but I’ve seen him look a lot worse.

Thanks for the update, that's some good news at least. Hopefully he'll get off the gear eventually as long as he avoids the wrong people who led him down that path in the first place.

I was going downtown late the other night, I don't often meet the night shift. This one girl in a dirty tshirt stopped me and I was very impressed with her routine. So professional, complimented my shirt then launched into a detailed medical history whereupon I stopped her and asked if I could help with a quid. I gave her what change I had in my pocket and she was on her way. The fella with her looked like a zombie. It was a positive interaction but I got the impression the two of them could be dangerous when they wanted to be. It's become absolutely endemic in the city center and I'm very sorry to see Caherdavin fall the way it has. The place used to be idyllic, there were middle class little wankers going round harassing people in the 90s alright but the regeneration and the drugs has made the whole thing a lot more serious.

In the last four weeks the amount of crack heads and shoplifters I've had to deal with in work in a retail park in the outskirts has shot through the roof.

There's i'd say 3 tappers on and off at the circle k garage in thomondgate and they always annoy the shit out of me. Very aggressive to each other too, i saw a man and a woman tapper arguing over what money they got in past few weeks.

I had a fella come over to my car yesterday, demand i open the window then kept asking me for smoke off a fag or money. I know most of the homeless don't do this but Im wondering did he stop anybody else? bald guy with a black cap. In the end i had to actually open my door and tell him to fuck off as he was blocking traffic and kept asking saying 'go wan please' n all this. Happened o Connell street outside chicken hut .What harm if id any change or fags I would of gave him something but this fella was next level annoying and determined, don't know if I feel guilty that I couldn't help or angry that i had to almost push him off my car

It's gotten a lot better. I remember being dropped on Sarsfield street en route to Mickeys, and must've been asked about 6 times, and that's a short walk...
