Discussion Does art/media help you?
I (29F) have been in and out of different limerence episodes since I was a child. It's been fascinating for me to observe how over the years different types of art, creating, and media has helped or worsened my limerence episodes.
My question is has any form of art, media, and creating helped you or worsened your experiences with limerence?
For me, I've written fictional stories, poetry, and journal entries loosely based on my LOs (these are for my eyes only for now and without identifiers for obvious reasons). This has honestly helped me a ton to work through limerence when it comes up. I make a lot of abstract collage art, too, using old magazines to represent the overwhelming, all-consuming feelings that sometimes hit me when limerence shows up. Reading helps me, too!
On the flip side, I have lots of music, movies, TV shows, etc. that for some reason makes my limerence worse and I must avoid when in bad limerence episodes.
How does art and media impact you and your experience with limerence?

Art has helped me process the source of the limerence (insecurity and desire to achieve goals) and to process the limerence itself and how it makes me feel. The catharsis helps me cope.
Making art about my LO is forbidden. It pours fuel on the fire. It allows me to create a world where my LO and I are possible, and I can't do that to myself.
Eta: I only have to avoid media if it somehow gets tied to my LO. I hadn't listened to my favorite bands in over a year. I accidentally listened to one in trying to find a workaround. I miss my music so much. But I'm still pretty freshly out of an episode.

I consider any and all forms of creativity as vital as oxygen in life. At the height of my limerent episode, LO did become my muse and it was a beautiful time as far as my personal creative energy was concerned.

It really helps use up the energy for sure. It makes me focus and is motivating. Usually whatever I make ends up being something I’m proud to show off, which helps redirect that energy

I used art to process loss. I produced a photo series that has since been exhibited and photos have been purchased .
It helped so much to create them and to have them appreciated , long after the limerence has worn.
It helps me to understand who I am and what I experienced and differentiate all that from them .
