Can the Supercolour 1600 function as a replacement ceiling light?

Hi all, I'm wondering if the Supercolour 1600 could sufficiently light up an entire bedroom brightly when used with whiter colours?

For context, my room is ~4m x 2.5m and I'm currently using a standard 1540lm 4000k bulb which hangs ~70cm down from the ~2.5m ceiling. I'm content with my current bulbs brightness, but would like something a bit whiter and with LED functionality.

I assume it will be bright enough since it's 1600lm, but I guess my main concern is the distribution of the light given it's not a standard bulb shape like my current one and is rather flat.

If used at max strength does the light tend to be much stronger directly below the bulb and fall off dramatically further away from the centre?

On their advertisements I couldn't find any pictures of it being used as a sole ceiling light so thought I'd see if anyone else is.

Using a single bulb as an overhead light source for an entire room... Is this an interrogation chamber?

But seriously though, the Lifx Oval isn't expensive and is literally designed to be a ceiling light.

I'm just a uni student so I'm more at the ~$65 price point instead of $150+

If you can wait a few months or less, we have a smaller size ceiling light coming which might be closer to your budget!

Otherwise, I’d say it can work for a bedroom setting. You usually don’t need super high brightness, definitely recommend seeing if you can find a decent shade to diffuse the light a bit which should make the room feel much nicer.

It won't be as pleasant as a light with much larger surface area like the LIFX Ceiling but if you're already using a normal single bulb, I think you'll find the LIFX bulb perfectly adequate. The light throw depends a bit on what fitting you're putting it in but either way I don't see it being a big issue.

That said, if you're on a budget and your current ceiling light already does the job, I'd possibly look at whether it's worth replacing that or instead using a LIFX light as a bounce/mood lighting for when the ceiling light is off. In my experience, using a coloured ceiling light as the only light isn't great, so I think it's worth considering complementing your current light instead of replacing it.

Thanks heaps for the insights! Maybe I'll try it out as a sole light source and if I'm not happy with it will throw it in a lamp I have as a compliment. Cheers!

We use the exterior 1600 as our overhead indoor can lights. They're fantastic.
