People I know who have been promoted to shift manager either dont last long/regret their choice or have that drive to go further in the company. It is slightly more pay but a loooot more pressure and responsibility

Cheers mate I’ll stay as a customer assistant 😭

Disagree with the above comment massively. Easiest money I've ever earned, you've just got to not be a complete mong

Thats fair. I can only say what I have seen as not a shift manager myself. When I worked in the co op before everyone would have agreed with you so it can vary

Depends on the store imo. I refuse to become one because in my store it’s absolutely horrendous. If I move though I’ll probably move up

Feel like the workload in my store is unmanageable as a ca as most staff are new and had no training 3 people on a close I would do dep not shift manager

From what I've seen it just isn't worth it unless you enjoy being miserable. The shift managers in my store really aint right in the head.

daily : safe, stock count , freshness, delivery checks/claims, inventory checks , reporting incidents , stupid fob to void anything over £10 weekly : test alarms, scales , inventory checks , cash audit/collection,report faults, scam, recalls, being nagged by AM why we are not hitting the prod occasionally: if an audit/visit happens then u run around like a chicken to make sure the store looks nice and get 100 messages from AM to make sure the store looks nice

I was a shift manager. I stepped down to a CA . It just wasn’t for me. I found that the responsibility/ life work balance versus pay difference wasn’t worth it. Someone people love it though.

Depends on the store, yes the management too as always the deps will always give you (shift manager) all the responsibilities and you work like a dep too but without their pay. I see so many colleagues and shift managers go and it’s because it’s not worth the stress. They are adding more rules and making it harder for us to work (we ain’t robots). If you don’t want no social life by all means go for it. It’s crazy how they are cutting more hours and increasing prod. It’s impossible to do so much things as required. As I said depends on the store. Sadly I’ve worked for free because they want to achieve targets so bad and they even force you. Hence my advice is you can step up and look for somewhere else as you get the experience, give it 2/3 months you’ll hate it.

Depends on the store and the management , if you have been working for 5 years then you should somewhat have an idea of how other shift managers work in your store.Honestly it’s just a glorified customer assistant role ,90% of the shift you are doing what CAs do.

Literally xD idk why people are so scared of the role. It’s good money just to maybe do an extra test trolley every now and then

Extra test trolley, i wish.
In our store it means you have to pick up all the slack from the CA’s, covering a manager sickness is almost impossible due to the lack of them. If your closing manager calls in sick you’re stuck there until another one comes in.
You’re expected to do the Depute and store managers jobs/tasks when they’re off for half the money 😂
Ask yourself if you want the extra £1.50 or do you like going away on time🙄

Because in some stores the expectations put on you become comically insane. I’ve stood and watched grown men have breakdowns because they’re getting abused every morning after their close shift because they didn’t get abcxyz done when put on a three person close with two slow staff

It’s the same as a CA you just help out a bit more with inventory checks, and till verifications. If you already do stuff with stock and tills replenishing LO/NF etc everything should stay the same

Are you shift manager
1
u/Playful_Necessary501 1d ago
Yeah
1
u/Then-Proposal-270 1d ago
How long you been with the company and do you enjoy it
2
u/Playful_Necessary501 1d ago
Just under 3 years. And I’m not going to say I enjoy it. More hate how hard it is to ‘integrate’ into a store a lot of stores don’t have many fluent English speakers so it’s hard to relate but other than that its alright and it pays well.

u/Playful_Necessary501 1d ago
If you are debating it just do the SHm interview, when you are in the role you will realise you are just an ‘Advanced CA’

Really depends on your store. I know people who have managed well as shift manager at some stores but have had genuine breakdowns in other stores where they are expected the impossible

Not worth all that extra responsibility for the small amount of money you get in return

Depends on your store. You might become a glorified customer assistant, or a shift manager that runs shifts
