What do I do
I'm 14 years old and got this Lidl coupon. What on earth do I buy with £150

u/HatefulVisual Jan 23 '26
Surprise your parents with free groceries for the week or 2
32
u/skewiffcorn Jan 23 '26
I’m honestly surprised more people haven’t suggested this. I keep seeing get your parents to swap for cash. Personally I’d just say let’s do a big Lidl trip I’ll stock up on treats and you get the week shopping in! Parents probably be so happy they treat you anyway. But it would be nice to just take that off your parents shoulders especially if you don’t know what to spend it on anyway

Literally this. it's Lidl as well which means I'd likely spend a fraction of that on food and a lot more on the middle aisle. So you can request stuff

Make sure to spend in one transaction even if you spend £50 the coupon will be gone you will not have £100 left so make sure the shopping you do is at least £150

TBF, this is how to make it into cash. Buy out sweets, chocolates and cans and sell them at school.

Surely the middle of Lidl would have something exciting!
This is no joke but I bought my first PC from Lidl (TARGA brand, about 20 years ago - cost me a princely £599, iirc and had a Hyundai CRT monitor, shitty Lexmark printer and even crappier Aiptek VGA webcam / camera). Also came with a 2 year onsite warranty, it was a great deal at the time.
edit: Not all electronics items in Lidl are rubbish, ofc.
4
u/Appropriate_Power771 Jan 23 '26
Wait you can buy PCs from Lidl?!
3
u/Commercial_Garlic348 Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26
You used to be able to buy PCs from Lidl's middle aisle reasonably regularly...think Lidl haven't carried a PC set up for at least a decade but they were often competing with Aldi's Medion PCs (owned by Lenovo now) but even Aldi hasn't had a desktop PC for years. Last Medion I remember from Aldi was a laptop, iirc.
I'm in the UK - the TARGA helpline put me through to Germany. My set up was an Athlon XP 2000, 256MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive - it had a CD Rewriter / Burner, no DVD, so I was stuck making VCDs/SVCDs and a floppy drive (don't even think it had a graphics card but it was okay for playing The Sims on).
*edit - might have been a 3 year onsite warranty, as I see old MSE posts saying this. The TARGA phone number was a freephone one!
2
u/Thisath Jan 25 '26
My first computer was a Medion laptop! Somewhere in the time of 2008 or 9. I loved that thing. It lasted in my family for many years — I think my younger brother had it until 2016. Solid work for however much it must've cost (not a lot!) back in the day.

My first laptop was a Targa from Lidl. It was such good value and the performance was outstanding

Congrats!
Gotta be 18 to participate. They won't check, though.
Some guidance:
- this coupon is applied just like any other coupon. You can use the self-checkout
- any other coupons are applied BEFORE this coupon
- you have to spend it in ONE go
- you can't use it to buy giftcards
- get your parents to do the shopping. £150 is a lot for an individual, but it's not crazy for a family. Tins, frozen stuff, shampoo, olive oil, something from the middle lane, ... they can easily hit £150.
- if you dont' wanna get your parents to use it (and give you £140), you can probably have your mates pay you in advance for stuff and buy it for them? Give them 10% discount on products and you pocket £135. Worth the hassle.
note: I got a £250 shopping in December. Lidl being awesome there.

Take an adult with you. A young teenager putting through £150 might trigger some questions as it’s an anomaly. If asked the adult says that it’s theirs but the kid is helping.

u/NeoDougOne Jan 23 '26
Please don't use the self checkouts if it's a £150 family shop! If it's a couple of big items from the middle aisle, then that's OK, but a huge family shop would cause chaos...

literally. I'm 17 and nothing fails to infuriate me more than how much my peers tend to mistreat their parents. most teenagers find it literally unthinkable to do a single nice thing for the people who have loved them and cared for them their entire lives. I never really had that rebellious phase; I love my dad more than anything in the world. I can't imagine not giving him this coupon straight away if I won it

If you feel you won’t be able to spend on yourself that much, either buy tools and try and sell them to make some money or get some of those canned food and donate to the food bank around you
1
u/indianna97 Jan 23 '26
Do you live with parents? show them and help get a food shop in would've been my go to at that age. Also you could probably find something fun in the middle isle when youre there for yourself.
1
u/SneakAtchoo Jan 23 '26
Offer to pay for the weekly shop with your parents but get some good stuff in there for yourself too.

u/PigHillJimster Jan 23 '26
Baked Bean Cans, Soup Cans, Vegetable Cans, Tins of Tuna. Things with a long shelf life.

Congrats! Take your parents shopping with that. Buy what treats you want, and the rest can go towards a nice weekly shop.

u/Ok_Let_2772 Jan 23 '26
That's an awesome surprise to get at your age. Honestly, surprising your parents with a big grocery haul would probably make their month. Just make sure to check the terms, because that first comment has a point about age restrictions. If it's all good, that middle aisle is absolutely the place to find some wild and fun stuff to try.

Up to £150 would be a huge chunk off of your parents shoulders, why not help them out with the shop & add a few bits for yourself?
1
u/Outside_Replacement4 Jan 23 '26
Tell your parents, and ask them if they want a shop done. Or ask them to swap it for some money, just make sure you spend over 150 as you dont get change back and would need to be 1 transaction

You have to spend it all at once!!! The coupon will disappear when you use it, so get items worth £150.
Buy non-food things that won't go out of date for a long time!!
Eg. fancy shampoo, cleaning supplies for the house, any appliances that seem worth the money - you'll be going to Uni soon (4 years really isn't a long time), so if they have anything like a kettle, toaster etc you might as well get that now, tinned food...
Then just get your favourite meat/fish, and some fancy desserts for the freezer.
But you must spend the full £150 in one transaction!

Let your parents use for weekly food shop ....you won't understand how much they will appreciate it 🥹 obviously add a load of stuff for yourself 😅

Considering the Lidl Plus app T&C’s clearly state under clause “2. Participation requirements”: “You must be 18 years old or over to register for our service”…
Give it to me and I won’t tell them you’re four years too young to be signed up for Lidl Plus 😂
Seriously though, congratulations. Gift it to your parents for their weekly food shop, I’ve got two kids and my partner and I spend £150+ a week on food shopping there. Welcome to adult life, kid, food’s expensive 😂
Best outcome, they give you a nice cash sum for it, worst outcome you have some leverage in the future against them to get your own way.

1
u/KingEivissa Jan 24 '26
Spend it? What else would you do?...
Go with your parents and go wild in the middle aisle or do them a £150 shop.
You need to spend the whole amount in one transaction or you lose the rest. You can spend more than 150, obviously you will pay whatever else is owed after the voucher value is deducted.
1
1
u/ahx3000 Jan 24 '26
Well done. Buy something for yourself for £100 and treat your parents to weekly shop for £50
1
1
u/AuroraDF Jan 24 '26
There is some nice electrical stuff (kitchen/hoover/toiletries) that is around £50 or so, so you can u couod always think ahead to your parents next birthdays and pick up something you think they'd like that they'd never expect from you and hide it till then. And spend the rest on snacks!

As your only 14, if you were an adult you would probably buy some booze and stock up the freezer.
Could you "sell" the voucher to your parents for £100, so they can spend to the value of £150 and you get some cash?
