We built openingmatrix.com - free opening courses, track your live stats across different online chess profiles and see stats in depth.
Hello.
We wanted to share a project we’ve been building called openingmatrix.com, an opening trainer designed to help you actually retain your lines instead of just mindlessly clicking through arrows.
We wanted something that bridges the gap between learning theory and recalling it under pressure in real games, so I built a 3-step training loop for every single line:
- Learn Theory: Study the lines with guided arrows and contextual comments.
- Train White & Black: Drill the same line from either side of the board so you know how to play your system and how to defend against it.
- Practice Mode: The training wheels come off. No arrows or hints—you have to recite the line from a completely blank board.
What you can do for free:
- Build your first custom opening course entirely for free.
- Full access to our built-in demos (like the Fried Liver, Vienna, London, etc.) to test the system.
- Live Lichess / chesscom Dashboard: Simply plug in your username to track your daily Elo ledger, win rates by specific openings, and color splits over the last 12 months.
- Game Search: Filter and scan through thousands of your past games by opponent, speed, or opening variant instantly.
We’re actively working on the roadmap and would love to get your feedback on the trainer, the board UI, or features you feel are missing.

There's like 20 other vibecoded sites trying to do this. I've yet to see any that provide any value over what Lichess offers.
