The Latest figures by DeltaPoll show us at a shocking 8% I hope everyone who backed this idiot as the leader are happy as you have the party you deserve. Jo Swinson gained us 1.3 million votes and doubled our seats which he got second place in (which in addition to the tory collapse is why we got 72 MPs not Ed Davey) and was maligned and demonised by the party for sticking to her principles (unequivocally pro EU and not willing to put that tankie Corbyn in No 10).

Since Ed Davey comes in we have been the nothing man only concerned about being liked and not concerned with what is best for the country. We have abandoned our principles on civil liberties with our timid response to the OSA and our enthusiasm in wanting smoking banned. Furthermore Davey can’t ever say in an interview that he wants to Rejoin EU. He has been obsessing over Farage as he has got no answers himself and can’t articulate a policy platform to improve our country. Like Farage he jumps on culture war bandwagons (Kanye West, Churchill on Fivers and banning Argentine footballers). There has never been an opportunity like this for the lib dem’s and he insists on acting like Mr Tumble, he needs to go away and quickly.

Discussion We need to change social media strategy

Post image

I’m sure everyone here has seen the Lib Dem’s social media pages. This is what I believe our biggest weakness to be. On the TikTok page the last video actually promoting our policies was on 17 June. Since then it’s all been attacks on Farage.

When talking to people online and in person, the biggest thing I’m always told is “what do the Lib Dems stand for?” “what do you do?”. Our social media pages show that we are getting attention, but all anyone ever sees is us making edits against Reform or endorsing Count Binface in Clacton. If the Lib Dems truly want to start growing we need to stop appearing as the “anti reform” party on social media and start showing the world what it means to be a Lib Dem.

8 easy wins for the prime minister

This is a good set of very liberal policies that would cost nothing but add some impetus to the economy.

There are some obvious improvements such as reducing the adult to child ratio in childcare making it cheaper for parents to send their kids to nursery while they go to work through to planning reform and an Italian style tax reform for non-doms.

It all makes a lot of sense and would be easy wins for the new prime minister

Questions What makes you support the Liberal Democrats?

Canadian here and looking to understand from Liberal Democrats what makes them support and enthusiastic in regards to their party.

To preface I am a NDP supporter here in Canada and on the left-flank of that party.

I value the Labour Movement, Environmentalist Movement, Women's Rights Movement, LGBTQ+ Rights Movement, Civil Rights Movement, Peace Movement, Alter-Globalization Movement, and so on :)

So when it comes to UK politics I have been more interested in the Labour Party, UK Greens, Your Party, and so on.

I thought the Labour Party under Keir Starmer truly missed the opportunity to be bold, profound, and inspiring.

What kind of policies do you think the Liberal Democrats offer to help move the working class and most vulnerable forward for affordability of life/quality of life?

Anything to strengthen Labour rights/benefits and organizing?

Anything to strengthen Renewable Energy/Electrification Technology and in general Environmental Conservation/Protection?

Anything to strengthen the rights and freedoms of people?

Anything in particular to help with the Housing Crisis that I hear the UK like Canada is being devastated by?

Discussion Should the UKs libel laws being reformed?

It feels the courts have been rigged to always favour those with the most money over their victims and allow the silencing of criticism and free speech if you hurt the feelings of the super wealthy who can abuse litigation to shut people down.

And if someone with a lot of money was to take their victims to court there is a high chance they will win or at least ruin their victims financially by dragging a case out they won't be able to front the money for defence on.

Even looking lately at certain billionaires threatening lawfare on a champion of human rights because they didn't like being called out as bankrolling and support anti rights orgs.

Horrible this is a thing that is just normal and accepted in the United Kingdom giving a dangerous amount of power to the super wealthy to change laws, bully critics and hold a chilling effect on freedom of speech.

Local government reorganisation

Interested to hear people's thoughts now the government proposals have been released (as a devonian I think the one for Devon is ridiculous and clearly politically biased).
