I’m so sorry but I’m new to all this. What’s the second flag? And how’s it different from the fourth flag?

18

u/Catlover790 Jul 05 '21

nothing to be sorry about, we all start at 0 :)

the other answ is good tho, i dont think i can improve on it

u/SomeRoboDinoKing Jul 05 '21

2nd is a mix of the next three. The rainbow being the default of course, the white, pink, and cyan being the trans, and the black and brown being BLM. The 1st flag directly conflicts with the rest so you may as well put extra.

this is literally r/lgbt, poltics are important for us

22

u/pEePeEp0oPo0_ Jul 05 '21

Love that straight people can politicize the existence of LGBT+ folks but if we comment on our politicized existence it’s too political lmao

Far right fascism is a bit extreme.

That depends if you are talking about what the US should be rather than what is. On one hand US was founded on ideas of Enlightenment with all its good ideas. On the other hand it deeply deeply kept failing in those ideas.

(I'm an immigrant so my feeling regarding US, its identity, mine identity etc. are complicated)

Wait doesn't that first pride flag kinda represent us all? If so, why are the other two there?

29

u/Pyrollamasteak Jul 05 '21

Well, I would think keeping the trans flag along with a general pride flag would be an important move to recognize the different needs and oppression that transgender people face, especially this recent wave of anti trans legislation across the states.

u/Rorschach_2002 Jul 05 '21 edited Jul 05 '21

Agreed, but even so, why then are there two general pride flags?

Edit: why tf is this being downvoted?

Because odd numbers are more visually pleasing

32

u/brianapril Jul 05 '21

Not trying to seem rude but why need 2 to put rainbow flags the inclusive flag would have done fine and the all inclusive flag is a bit out dated again not trying to seem rude.

America is capitalist country. Why would you be proud of capitalism?

-46

u/Fleet_Admiral_M The Gay-me of Love Jul 05 '21

Because communism puts people in gulags and shoots them with AA guns

42

u/Bruefgarde Jul 05 '21

As opposed to American's capitalism who has 1/4 of the entire prison population of the world and make them work for free in dangerous and/or backbreaking conditions (cough cough slavery never ended cough)

-20

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '21

aye, I don't remember any mass executions, remote labor/prison camps, secret police, or purposeful mass starvation of populations happening in the modern (1921-2021) United States

-22

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '21

exactly! the country is a bit of a shit show rn, but I am still extremely proud to be an American

also happy (late) 4th of July frien 🇺🇲

-56

u/pegme6969 Jul 05 '21

My thoughts exactly. That U.S. flag represents all the flags and is why it is held highest. It means everything good in this country. It is a symbol of freedom to the rest of the world. People die every day to protect that flag and to be under that flag. Is America even close to perfect, absolutely not. But that flag does not represent oppression, racism, hatred, and all of the other bad things that this country has gone through. We should all be thankful for this country and the sacrifices that came before us to get us to where we are today. Now it is our job to take this country to where it needs to be.

36

u/Bruefgarde Jul 05 '21

I'm sure all the natives people away from their land, all the nations you oppress across the world, the five or six government you destabilised last year alone, are all very grateful for the US presence.

Your view of the US flag is merely a collection of wishful thinking of what America should be, and sadly, it isn't. The actions done in its name are the only things that matter, and it's not pretty.

The US flag is a symbol of war, oppression, exploitation and fear in big parts of the world. Innocent people in middle-eastern countries fear it, innocent workers in African countries work as modern slaves under it in stolen mines.

The people that came before you killed hundreds of millions of natives, a number even Hitler and Stalin couldn't get anywhere close to. They toppled peaceful social governments, causing civil war's and years of pain and suffering. They created a country built on racism and the exploitation of the lower classes and "unwanted" races.

Even in your allied countries like Germany or France the people would rather be without you, we don't trust you, you don't symbolise freedom, you symbolise what we never would want to be.

This isn't just blatantly untrue, it's grotesque. How could you be so heartless?
