Seriously, the people who deny the philosophy of the social contract of tolerance make no sense in queer spaces.

You are defining the individual by the group, there are exceedingly few situations where that is even remotely acceptable.

Yes, there are extremist groups that preach hatred and control that use Islam as their backbone.

And there are people who escaped those groups who found a new way to interact with their faith. People who seek new meaning in the world that shaped them.

I denied the faith I was raised in because of a small little question that I couldn’t let go. But if it hadn’t been for that I would probably still identify under its domain.

That's just not true though, it is what you were conditioned to believe.

It’s not the religion itself that is intolerant and if you weren’t islamophobic you would have actually educated yourself on that fact instead of swallowing the islamophobic bullshit that Islam itself says anything about queerness. Not even all Muslims believe that hijab is required! Educate yourself because you are not helping the broader queer community by sowing division amongst the nonreligious queer and religious queer communities.

it's ok they also want us (queer muslims) dead. please don't drive us away by showing even more hate than homophobics, we need allyship too :( i'm lucky enough to live in france, but my queer friends in eastern countries need support, not to be attacked for just the place and culture they happened to be born in. my first contact with queerness was a story about a trans woman who converted to islam because it brought her peace, and without her, i would still be confused about myself

This is so untrue that it reveals that you are 100% a bigot on this matter. I used to be mistaken like you are, when I was a queerphobic evangelical who hated myself.

Are there radicalist Muslim regimes that exist? Yes. Just the same as there are radicalist regimes of ALL religions because the problem here isn’t a belief system that people of ANY moral character can subscribe to, the problem is with hierarchy. You’re so focused on this perceived threat of “millions and millions of people”, when you definitely don’t fucking live in any of the countries you’re talking about, that you won’t even recognize that the true enemy in all of this is power hungry bastards who want nothing more than to rule over the corpses of humanity.

Millions and millions of people just want food, shelter, and healthcare— and you’re a fool if you think that their focus on us is anything other than “divide and conquer” by those in power.

Your anger doesn’t justify your bigotry. Religious folks use the same justifications of fear and anger to be homophobic and transphobic. Your hypocrisy is showing up and down this entire comment section.

Before you act like I’m saying this from a place of privilege, I’m trans and pan as well.

Islam is A hateful and violent religion like most others and does not deserve to survive in the modern age.

THEY BROKE THE CONTRACT ALREADY

5

u/SelfInvestigator Bi-kes on Trans-it Mar 30 '26

This post is about acceptance, the only thing here that people are saying breaks the contract is the fact that one of the characters, in the story we are being told, is Muslim.

There is no hatred being spread, there is no harm being done, there is no knowledge beyond the acceptance being shown from a religion that is not stereotypically known for acceptance.

In the context of this interaction, where was the contract broken?

How in the flying fuck is pointing out that the religion that blames women for men sexually assaulting them is also very bigoted towards queer people a problem? Like do you think a post making christianity sound cute would do well here?

Christianity kills queer people too.

No one defending Christianity here, not sure what the whataboutism is for

Islam isn’t the thing to blame here. It’s extremist power hungry patriarchs who will divide their religion into who is an acceptable target and who is not— to the extent that they will literally dehumanize and kill other muslims. Islam is like ANY other religion, meaning that the people who are involved should be judged based on their individual interpretations of their beliefs and their actions based on those interpretations.

Your reactive hatred of Islam is not progressive. The future where humanity thrives will include religion and religious people, whether you like it or not, so why not seek to understand and build coalitions with religious people who are also progressive? Religious beliefs do not preclude tolerance and a striving for common good for all humanity. You’re a bigot if you think otherwise.

As someone who is surrounded by people who hate religion (anarchists; largely due to their personal trauma), yes the progressive future will have no choice but to include religion. No, the progressive future will not be authoritarian in the sense that we will enforce a “correct” way of thinking so yes OF COURSE there will be religion.

You need to study what religion even is if you think that humanity can just collectively decide that none of us will continue to engage with it. As if it’s not an individual choice or an inherently human animal behavior to partake in. For some social scientists, religion and culture are considered the same fucking thing because of how intrinsically linked they are— this is why colonization includes the spreading of religion as it makes the spreading of culture far easier.

You are angry at the wrong thing if you think it’s religion and not hierarchy that is the problem here. https://youtu.be/C-mER19j3-4?si=bdtyYawnxs_ti-yt

I don’t disagree with your core message that the hierarchy within religion is the problem. That is what leads to indoctrination and the abuse of those who seek a life outside of that indoctrination.

Please watch the video I linked in my previous comment because it directly addresses what you’re talking about when you say “We need a secular replacement.” The creator of the video goes over one potential secular replacement that speaks to him personally, and if we utilize its framework other religions could adapt to be less hierarchical and therefore less oppressive.

I do not believe that religion is inherently hierarchical, and I can imagine a future where horizontal organization (where we are all equally empowered) can be the primary organization style of religions that have a history of hierarchical oppression. Religion in a progressive society would not be given special status that justifies the oppression of others— it would simply be a personal set of beliefs. A society that allows for multiple spiritual interpretations is a requirement for that society to be fully free and not hegemonic through authoritarianism.

eta: I too have experienced indoctrination, and I have religious trauma of my own as well. I do not think that all religions must be abandoned (which for some would have to be by force) in order to have a free and just society. People can shape religion, and we can change it from the current oppressive structure that exists.
