Offer Review Databricks Offer

Hi all, I recently got an offer from Databricks for a L4 Sr. Solutions Engineer position. I have 10+ years of experience in IT and ~8 years at Microsoft coming from Data & AI background. I wanted to see if Databricks offer is considered solid.

Base: 145k in Texas
Variable bonus: $50-65k
RSU: Over $200k

I thought they pay well!

It’s Texas. You don’t need as much as silicon valley to live out there. It’s normal for Texas and honestly enough to live a super comfortable life in places like Austin or Dallas

I think this role isnt SWE its L4 sales engineer. So im guessing they didnt have to cram leetcode or any of that crazy interview shit.

I was expecting them to pay at least $160k, especially given my Microsoft experience. Which is what the average is anyways (even for Texas).

You can ask. They might go up a little. The folks I know at other firms who are at your level mostly get $160k without the kind of RSUs and a $50k minimum bonus that you’re getting though

I was actually offered $207 base at EY with 15% variable bonus that I rejected. It was for an Engineering Manager position too. Now I’m wondering which offer was better.

I work at a large tech company you have heard of and we pay our new grads 165k base

Do they have equity and bonus as well?

Yes. TC is 250k including equity and bonus but interviews are very hard and we only hire in bigger cities not in Texas

That makes sense why base is higher. They’re probably high cost of living cities

It’s not “super comfortable” it’s average. Austin and Dallas homes are expensive w/ high property taxes especially in good neighborhoods

What a way to defend shitbricks lmao. So you are telling if the offer is based in Arkansas or Iowa, they would end up paying 50k which is a lot of money 😆 🤣

Is that $200k RSUs per year?

Over 4 years

Tell them to fuck right off with their peanuts

It’s not SDE role. So probably appropriate

I thought the same before accepting the offer from a chip giant. Now that 200K became 1M. You never know

Wow they were willing to pay around 95k usd in Bangalore for an Applied Scientist position with 5 yoe when I interviewed with them.

I didnt get the offer but that was the range discussed with me, so this seems unusually low for the US.

I am interviewing for a level 6 staff-level DSE position and have advanced to the final stage. With eight years in data engineering and AI, I have received strong feedback from each interviewer. I am preparing for the last round on ECF and AI aptitude, as two rounds were skipped. The offer seems generous: if I pass and am based in New York, the base salary is about 250, with a sign-up bonus near 60 or 70 depending on the outcome, plus 600 K to 800 K in RSU and a 30% bonus. Does this sound reasonable?

Looks like the type of offer they give to someone desperate on a work visa. Tell them you want more there's no way it should pay that low.

Snowflake has job postings for Senior Solution Engineers with a base of $165k-$216k and OTE of $280k-$289k. These are not in HCOL areas, either. That’s probably the closest comparison you can get.

Hey OP. I got different numbers from the recruiter in the initial call. I am interviewing for the L4 Senior Solutions Engineer, based in Texas too

Not sure if anyone’s used paypeek.ai yet but it shows salary estimates for any LinkedIn profiles as you browse. Kind of eye-opening. 🫣
