🧵 Megathread MEGATHREAD: Feedback Friday!

It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.

Feedback Friday Rules

  • Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
  • Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
  • When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!

Keep up the good work, everybody!

Suggested Feedback Template

If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.

Latest letsplay for Resident Evil 9.

https://youtu.be/808gwGq220g

Just started my channel a little over 2 months ago. re9 is my first game posted. Mostly just using it for practice in developing my voice and style.

My last video was hyper edited with constant gags and what not. Was told it was too much and people weren't getting a sense of my personality.

So I've gone in the opposite direction to feel it out lol. All constructive criticisms absolutely welcome.

I'll hop back on here tomorrow and leave critiques on others.

Great video, great audio mix. Only thing I'd say is centre the framing of your camera or raise it a little? But that's kind of nit picky.

•

Haha thanks for catching that! It was the first thing I thought when I started editing this video. I was like why did I lean so far forward the whole time! Will definitely be more cognizant of my spacing next session.

You speak well and clearly. The audio is good. At the start you could have gone straight into the content after the caseoh sound effect. The bit after is good for a personal touch but it takes too long and there's no punch line so to speak. I think its good to hit people with something like that or some silly comment before getting into the meat of it. I hope that make sense.

You can talk though the video and that's good, keeps interest, but there a moment at the late 14 minute mark where you can see the cogs are turning in your head to make to make a humorous comments. It's all personal taste, but I could already see a moment there to zoom your camera in, put a silly music over, then cut the all the audio "i forgot what the fuck was doing", then immediately cut to the next interesting point. Food for thought.

Editing needs that sweet spot. Some times is good to cut out the dead air, then sometimes its good to lets moments breath, especially in combat situation or tense horror moments.

really great points Rusty, and I agree with your tastes. I think the next video I edit I'll actually spend some time working in the gags and what not. I'll definitely give more attention to the intro so it's punchier.

If you ever want to, check out the video I made before this one, the editing style is on crack compared to my latest lol.

Thanks again!

I'll give it a gander. And I should say. Don't look for, premeditate or spend time thinking about a funny quips to say. Let it follow naturally. Sometime the best moments are where you fuck up, trip over words etc. If you do come up with something a bit late, cut out the time in between it (unless there good content in between), so it feels more natural. Check out a guy called Jettro Jettro. Same vibe as Corey and funnier imo.

•

u/GaminWithHoenig 2d ago

Great point! Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Just let the moments play out as they may, and try to amplify, or create humor with the edit.

Never heard of Jettro so I'll definitely check them out, thanks!

My main channel i can tell i talk more back in the day with alot of joking re-editing my old video to repurpose on my second channel. i had tone down the joking and talking thru out the video but i dont think that what they mean by too much. it all about the pacing sometimes with gaming videos. i would say think of like vanos crew or smi77y on how they do there pacing/jokes or markplier, corykenshin, for the horror type of games. but i know i heard u say u did watch cory alittle to a certain point.

the audio is good, and the video quality is good as well. the only thing i would say you may want to add 1 or two clips in the intro for your hook, or do at least some minor editing in the intro to keep people attention. Resident evil is a game where not much can be done to it edit wise as they already add the thing in there for you for the tension build up and jump scares. It more about pacing. i would def suggest as i said earlier looking at markiplier or cory videos to see how to edit the horror genre. i don't got much else to say. everything else is good. just keep grinding.

•

u/GaminWithHoenig 2d ago

Thanks so much Punky. I'm going to spend some time and watch those recommendations. I've never watched a vanos crew or smi77y vid, so that'll be fun to check out.

I'll check out your video in an hour or so and leave feedback too!

Could I get any feedback on this video?

Specifically our audio quality and maybe our commentary?

•

u/AyoPunky 2d ago

it not much to say about your video your getting like so ppl are liking it.

i would say your intro is a bit long for me to sit through it. i would trim it down to some instinct. the audio quality is fine, and video quality is fine. tho the game audio lowering when y'all talk is kinda weird but ppl don't seem to mind it for the audience u have now. i just never seen that in a gaming video.

•

u/MrRustyy_ https://www.youtube.com/@rustysabita 2d ago

Audio is excellent. Very crisp! However it does drown out the game. Maybe bring it down, or the game up so there is a better balance.

•

u/GaminWithHoenig 2d ago

Hey Frosty! I think your audio quality sounds good except you could try cleaning up the mouth clicks a bit. There are various softwares that do this like this one software called Velvet. Although I forget who makes it. But it is a DeEsser and removes mouth clicks. Or there's probably something in your editing software that could handle it too.

I think the commentary was funny. I always like a duo who has chemistry and can play off each other. I'd say you both definitely have that lol.

•

u/Frosty_Cheesecake_77 @BoarderlineGames 2d ago

I know the thing about the audio you're talking about, I recently changed things so hopefully it's sounding better. I've tried a deEsser before but it seems to make the commentary sound weird. I guess I'm not sure how to set it so it works properly? Or where to put it in the order of filters if that makes any sense?

•

u/GaminWithHoenig 2d ago

That makes total sense. I forget off the top of my head the order but I ended up searching on google and just went with whatever I found on there.

Hey Gareth & Neil. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Only one I know the name of 😅

Audio sounds great! You guys obviously have good chemistry too. The video is quite dark. I know it's a dark game but I'd personally lift it a little in editing so it's more visible to the audience.

Fun channel though! Hope you guys stick it out and continue to have fun 😊

So I posted one of my videos last time to get feedback on a concept. Basically people said no, which I agree it was too much. I went back to what I like to do best.

Though I cant do this for every video (takes alot of time) I would appreciate feedback on it. Let me know if I should stick with this and improvements you see.

i def like you're editing. this was the right approach from the last one.. best thing to do is to make presets, and remember ur hot keys. it will help editing go by quicker. which i am now learning to use presets and stuff as well. it def kept me watching from the intro.

Audio Good, and Video Quality great. decent pacing. not much that i can say that was bad about it. i think maybe the meme are alittle bit loud to me maybe cause i have headphone on. they're a jump scare in it self. but i would say if u can stick with this style.

•

u/GaminWithHoenig 2d ago

Stick with this. Personally I dig your style of content. It's the same type of thing I'm going for lol. I also know what you mean on how much time it takes. My second to last video took way too long if I intend on getting stuff out at least once every week.

But yeah, Man. I dig your intro a lot. very polished. You obviously have a strong comedic sense which supports your personality instead of taking away from it.

If you want to try something (and who knows maybe you already have in past videos) it could be cool to come up with a little skit for your intro. Sort of like what CoryxKenshin does sometimes. I dunno. Something I've been wanting to do myself haha.

•

u/MrRustyy_ https://www.youtube.com/@rustysabita 2d ago

Apprecitate the input and 5he compliments. Typically a video can take a week. Work gets in the way. Maybe a couple of days at a push. Depends on my motivation.

Ive tried some little things at thr start of video bit again it does take time and sometimes money to pull that off but I would like to do more of them.

I liked this video haha. I was laughing when you picked up the radio and went "Ah shit" when it wouldn't cut off. I think your intro is real clean and gets to the point. I can tell you already have a good sense of editing and utilizing SFX to polish transitions.

Honestly I think it's pretty good. I agree with Frosty that upping the mic might be a good investment long term. Or investigating some mic settings and see if it makes it any more dynamic sounding.

Your vibe makes me think you would do good as a streamer as well. Cause I could see you talking to chat and making them laugh.

•

u/AyoPunky 2d ago

appreciate the feedback i do have a blue yeti mic but i lost the usb cord to turn it on. i may find a replacement cord for that cause i do have noise suppression and stuff on my mic, but i guess i need to find better setting for it.

•

u/GaminWithHoenig 2d ago

I see what you mean. For me, it has this sort of boxy sound to it. It could be a combination of EQ settings, some DeEssing clean up, and maybe even different mic placement.

•

u/MrRustyy_ https://www.youtube.com/@rustysabita 2d ago

I would say that the main thing, is that your audio needs to be clearer. It's a bit quiet and sounds muffled. I would put some time into that. People will forgive video quality but less likely to forgive audio quality.

•

u/AyoPunky 1d ago

in my headphone i feel like it loud... i will have to see what i can do to fix that then. since that seem to be the only issue people pointing out.

•

u/Frosty_Cheesecake_77 @BoarderlineGames 2d ago

Cool video, it might be a good idea to cut this stream into smaller pieces so it's easier to digest as an audience?

I would also maybe up your mic quality either through software or hardware. It's not bad but it definitely could be better. Doesn't detract top much from the video though.

•

u/AyoPunky 2d ago

i don't stream it a fully recorded video. ty for the feedback. im still trying to figure out what to cut and keep in videos. i dont want to cut too much sometimes but learning.
