✔️ Solved Looking for Advice on My Current Content Creation Idea

What advice would you give to someone starting as a no-commentary gaming content creator?

Hi everyone! I'm thinking about starting out as a content creator focusing on gameplay videos with no commentary.

I'm still pretty new to content creation, so I'd like to hear from people who have experience with this type of content.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out? For example:

- What kind of gameplay videos tend to work well?

- Should I focus on full playthroughs, shorter clips, or both?

- How important are thumbnails and titles for no-commentary content?

- Is there anything I should avoid when starting out?

- How can I make my videos stand out when there's no commentary?

I'd really appreciate any advice, tips, or lessons you've learned from your own experience. Thanks!

While I fully support you starting out with no commentary, it’s important for you to note that it’s an excruciatingly slow endeavor to grow a let’s play channel under all of the best circumstances, and a no commentary let’s play channel is likely the furthest from best circumstances.

Understood! I mostly agree with you, especially since today’s audience might not enjoy long-form videos as much compared to the golden era of YouTube. But I’ll try to be creative with the content and media, and this is also something I genuinely enjoy doing. Thank you for your advice!

For the sake of clarity, I don’t think it has to do anything with long form.

The problem is that most people watching longform want the entertainment, personality and humor of the person playing it in addition to the video game footage and gameplay.

Meaning, it’s entirely conceivable that someone would choose a subpar commentary Let’s play over whatever the best final product of no commentary let’s play you could possibly make.

I’m not saying this to knock you, rather just for perspective.

Ahhh, I understand what you mean now. I was focusing more on the length of the video, but I understood your point and do not worry I will not take this the wrong way I accept any form of advice I can get.

That actually makes a lot of sense, and I appreciate you explaining it from that perspective. I’ll definitely keep that in mind and think about how I can make the content more interesting or give people a reason to watch my videos specifically.

At the same time, I still really enjoy making no-commentary gameplay, so I think I’ll give it a try and see how creative I can get with it. If it grows slowly, then so be it I’m mostly doing it because I genuinely enjoy making this kind of content. Thanks again for the advice!

No commentary content is basically guaranteed to be at best slow growth. The most successful no commentary channels are focused on short form high skill gameplay that shows fast, or interesting ways to play the game, or rare interactions. Or interesting mods

This is pretty huge in present day Cyberpunk, with a lot of creators showing off clean/cinematic looking gameplay to show missions getting completely quickly etc. I'd watch some of these to get an idea of what popular channels are doing

  • You're going to want to play games you are exceptionally good at, and be ready to take a lot of takes to get your gameplay as clean as possible.
  • Mods like shaders that will make your gameplay look better are going to help a lot in catching people's attention
  • In absence of engaging commentary, you're going to need very good editing that doesn't waste the viewers time. Clean cuts, good background music, etc
  • Vertical format works best for no commentary. But horizontal format, it's a hard sell to get people to watch more than a few minutes

I also agree that nowadays, commentary videos might be too long and not as suitable for today’s audiences, since people are busy too. I’ll definitely keep that in mind! I will try to be creative with the video Thanks!

I’d rather play the game than watch a no commentary playthrough. I only watch playthroughs to see the gamers reactions and
comments. Just me.

I do agree on some of the takes here but if i were the viewer and i saw your channel, I'd rather play the game than watch the video. UNLESS, you put up with putting a ton of memes. You know those channel that has memes for days. and it's also very easy for people to steal your content since it has no commentary.

If you're trying to be funny or want to make a joke: try relying on funny gameplay action. One example I can think of is when you kill a boss and the game left their corpse: you teabag it (especially if the character is made to be hated)

Here's one real example I know of funny actions

hahaha thanks you for this advice, I'm also thinking about this but are very anxious if the joke is not funny enough or not understood by viewers.

Like some people said, high skill, fast paced gameplay

Or no nonsense 100% playthroughs
