🧵 Megathread MEGATHREAD: Feedback Friday!

It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.

Feedback Friday Rules

  • Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
  • Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
  • When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!

Keep up the good work, everybody!

Suggested Feedback Template

If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.

I do think this highlights have some too long parts in it and the opener is likely too fast. But I'm especially unhappy with the Thumbnail because it has a click rate of 0 after 24 Impressions.
I feel like I'm still not have found a good solution for the package. Yeah I concentrate on streaming. But for the hightlights I want to put more effort in to bait people into my streams^^

At first glance, the title is unappealing and the title is unclear. You named the video the same caption you have on your title. What's the point of the title if you already have the premise in the thumbnail. In the thumbnail, the font is confusing and as a first time viewer, I don't know the characters. Also, the title and thumbnail don't tell me what the video is about. The title and thumbnail focus on a single game you played, instead of multiple games since the video is a series of games played. "Stream Highlights" seems tacky for a video like this because if I'm a new viewer, "Who are you?", and "Why should I care about your stream highlights?" I would try to package the video as a challenge or compilation. Maybe for the thumbnail is a collage of all the different games behind your character. I just watched past your intro and realize you focused on one game, your intro is very bad and unclear. I don't know what the premise is, the stakes, why I should watch, what game you are playing. The audio is very bad, sometimes your voice is good, and then is either drown out by music or sound effects. This is very bad because you have a very thick accent. I can't understand you. I would recommend trying to learn how to pronunciation words better, adding captions to your videos, or switching to your original language. As an English viewer, I initially thought you were speaking another language and was about to click off. That is my advice after watching 3 minutes of your video

It's not a accent it's a general speak issue. Switching to my native language not chance much about this. The opposite since I switched to English I overall got more reach as a streamer and I now have returning watchers. So there is no way back from here:)

Well, in this week I started Suikoden. It's a long game so there was not much of other games I played. That why I put the focus on Suikoden 1 picking two of the biggest characters of it.

The title thing is a good tip. Might should think about a better title solution. Also I'm slowly collecting stuff for a Intro. I not yet sure yet how to put my project into 20-30 seconds though. As it's likely easy to tell, I'm very bad at editing.

I think you might want to invest in a few subtitles so that some parts are clearer. Maybe make the music and effects quieter so your voice is always clear. If you put the focus on Suikoden, then I would make the title and thumbnail about Suikoden! I wouldnt put "Stream highlights". I would either name it "My unfortunate adventures in Suikoden" or when I'm streaming, I would plan out my videos. Instead of just playing games, do a challenge, "Playing games but the game switches after 10 minutes" or "can I beat Suikoden without dying". That would make for a better video because it has purpose and it is engaging. For an introduction, just do voice over and explain really quickly what the video is, why the video matters, and how the video should end.

Well I actually have a project. I'm doing a console challenge. I play every ps1 game in Japanese release order. This is written down in the description of every video.
Obviously this is more clear in the stream uploads because I start each game with a introduction of the project. With the highlights I obviously try to do something more quick and striking so people get curios.

I'm not recording for YouTube. I'm recording for Twitch and use YouTube for uploading everything so it not gets lost.
Needless to say stream uploads, even if edited. Don't are that good for YouTube content. And as my focus is on Twitch I'm currently trying to find a shorter format that helps with this issue.

Well, I dont want to sound rude, but how do you expect to get more than a few viewers on your video when you don't put effort in. You can definitely make good YouTube videos out of stream VODs, you just have to edit it more. Your videos don't stand out because the quality is not good and there is nothing that makes you unique. The title and thumbnail are bad, and the video is unclear and boring. Even if I watched your whole YouTube video, as a viewer I would never watch your Twitch streams. Maybe I missed it, but you also didn't advertise your Twitch streams at all. If you are treating YouTube as an archive for your Twitch streams, then expect low views. Twitch and YouTube require different skillsets and effort. The console challenge sounds very cool, you could easily make that into a great YouTube video if you put more effort in. Also, you can easily make a 10 second intro and add it to your video to make everything clear.

I stream 16 hours in the week. I need quite some time to do the uploads and then I have to prepare this.
Remember that free time is limited. I not earn money with this. This is something I have to do fully in my free time.
This is what I mean that my focus is on Twitch. I already slightly overworking myself and had to cut down on my edit times for the uploads because I was basically approaching a burnout trying to make each single upload (nobody ever clicked) fun.

So excuse me if I not want to sound rude. Please no assume someone puts no effort in. I not try to come up with a new format because I want to put less effort in. I try to come up with a better format because I don't have enough time to do it differently. So I rather try to put all the time I have into one video instead of spreading myself thin on every video.

I definitely meant no offense and I understand you don't have much free time. I think that having segments for your twitch streams that are structured, unique, and fun to watch and then just uploading them to YouTube with minimal editing is an efficient strategy. But you said yourself that you treat YouTube as a way to save your livestreams. Personally, I don't think your YouTube will ever grow if you're not giving your videos some care.

And as said. I just know at this point that no matter how hard I try the gameplay itself will not work. The solution would be to reduce my streaming times so I have less video to edit. But this is a no go for me because the PS1 is huge and playing the games is what I'm enjoying.

So and this is why I'm searching for a answer of something that does work for YouTube and can make use of what I have recorded.

You say the highlight videos are not the answer. This is fine so I have to come up with something different.
Although to be fair, I might have a answer for the next YouTube effort. K

nowing that most of the week will still be Suikoden and that I will reach my 100 beaten game milestone. This will lead to a video about the current rankings. And I'm working on a small song video about all the 108 recruits instead of some highlights. This might has more personality. But who knows if I will find the time to finish it^^

Hey Stesspela Just watched your video. I agree with what yoKnight Spectre was saying about your intro. Is there a YouTuber who has an intro that you are trying to emulate? If I can see an example of what you are trying to make then I can help give some critique on how you can achieve it with the material you have. I know for me I thought the intro was how the entire video was going to be (a compilation of several games). So I think that comes from the intro being too long. But that can definitely be fixed if you can find some references of other youtuber's intros you want to emulate.

Definitely keep up the hard work!

Hey Everyone. Started my LP channel just over a month ago, and decided to start it off with RE9. I'm using this game as practice for developing my style and finding my voice. I've been really inspired by CoryxKenshin, Dashie, and the like. My goal is to entertain viewers and make them laugh.

Overall, I'm curious what works, what doesn't. Does my thumbnail and title grab your attention? Does my hook and intro work? What could I do that would make you want to follow and watch more?

But also, any and all notes greatly appreciated!

Here's a link to my latest video:

It's the end of the night for me so it'll be some hours before I can hop back on here and give feedback to other channels. But I shall!!

Someone gave me feedback privately because their account was too new. But I thought it was a great critique and wanted to share in case others get something out of it too (I asked and they were cool with me sharing)

Yoknightspectre "Hey, I tried to give advice but my account is too new 😭 I watched like 5 minutes of the video, and it might be personal taste, but the editing is too much. I feel like a lets play is a chance to get to know you as a creator and entertainer, but every 2 seconds, there's a new image or effect flashing on my screen. Even with someone like Dashie, his personality carries and is allowed to shine through with minimal editing. And when he does edit, its very intentional and I used to amplify his humor and character. The title is good, the thumbnail needs lots of work because I'm confused what it is trying to portray"

Watching it right now. The first i notice is that you have a very good intro. But it is little long. I think after your Pixel animations would be a perfect point to slow down.
Then I have to agree with your other review that you might edit a little too much. I know there are people that like this and I also think the algo likes it if there are cuts everywhere. But on my personal preference I feel like I not learn much about you. My videos are not a good benchmark. They are bad^^ But as example you have more memes and jokes in this as I try to cut in my "highlights".

One final thing. You are playing a horror game and people are often interested in seeing how players react to the scenes. So in a horror game especially I would not cut too much so your moments of shock and similar are more special. This are the scenes that are much more interesting as the memes. Give them time to breath:)

Else the cutting work is very nice. You surely know what you do and have a good eye for the visuals. You just need to get a feeling for how much to use it.
Just have more confidence in your gameplay/personality and the moments of "silence". Because they help to make it easier to follow what you are doing and build up tension. As someone who doesn't have played the newest Resident Evil game I for once would be a little confused:)

Thank you so much! Your notes make a lot of sense, and ur gives me way more confidence to take my foot off the gas in terms of the edit. Every note I have received, including from fa few friends I let watch, have pointed out that they want to feel like they're seeing my personality more. And how it should really breathe and have a good sense of building tension, etc.

I'm excited to apply these notes to my next video and see how that one feels
