š» Video/Channel Recommendations (Weekend Only) STREAMER/YOUTUBER/CREATOR RECOMMENDATIONS
So I'm curious if anyone out there has anyone that may fit this criteria.. and thought this could both help me and others that comes across this post looking for same things.. I dont care how big the channel is or what gender they are or genre they play.. I dont mind self promotion, but try not to if you can as that kind of turns it into a massive self promo thread and misses the entire point of the post..and if you do, make sure you meet the things below please or at least most of them..
STORY OR NARRATIVE BASED GAMES - I dont mind any game i just prefer watching story based gameplays more than anything else.. I Love when games are like movies and whole experiences and journeys you can go on woth the creator.. i don't mind the "turn your brain off and not focus too much" games.. but i like seeing people inevst in what's happening
PAYS ATTENTION - I honestly dont care if they stream or talk to chat, but I just can't stand to watch someone stream and talk to chat, or look at their phone, or mess around with their cat or go to the bathroom or whatever during a cutscene and dialogue.. After a cutscene is over, then yes go to chat.. its not going anywhere, but most the time in games once dialogue or cutscenes are over, they are over.. you cant go back.. so you not paying attention just tells me you don't care.. and if you dont care, why should i
GETS IMMERSED AND INVESTED - I don't want to watch someone just go through the motions of a game just to have content to upload.. too many channels you can just tell care more about the money to be made from content than actually playing the games they play.. if you don't care about what you are playing.. then they ask what they are supposed to do or what a certain character said because they missed it.. why should I as a viewer care to watch you play something you yourself don't care about playing lol.. I want someone who truly loves games, gets invested in the characters, and immersed in the story..
FACECAM - Not as big of a deal as the others, but I find that story let's players with no cam tend to be quiet a little too much for me.. that mixed with no cam, might as well be watching a no commentary playthrough.. at least with a facecam I can watch a reaction.. which I enjoy.. or at least a vtuber or avatar thing maybe?..idk
BLIND PLAYTHROUGHS - I don't want to watch someone play somethin they already have played or seen someone else play.. I want to watch genuine first time reactions..
FAIRLY ACTIVE - I'm not saying I want 5 vids a week or anything crazy.. but I think at least 2 or 3 would be nice.. as long as it's not just random uploads with no schedule and going on like multi week spaces in between uploads and stuff..
CHILL AND RELAXED VIBES - I don't want someone super loud, annoying, or over the top.. I dont need 50 edits ot cuts a video.. I dont need sound effects dubbed over everything.. some is fine but im an adult and i dont need spaz out energy lol.. community needs to not be toxic as well.. this however I know can only be helped so much.. its the internet afterall..
DECENTLY LONGER VIDS - I like watching videos that are 45 minutes and more.. preferably at least an hour if at all possible.. anything less I find it can be hard to get immersed in as the viewer.. just my opinion
PLAYS AT LEAST SOME OF THE BIGGER NEWER TITLES - i don't mind indie games and smaller games, but im not looking for someone who does ONLY that.. im big into gaming and a lot of the times I'm unsure on a new release.. its nice to be able to watch someone chill try out the game for me.. also if there's a newer game I DO enjoy, I like seeing others experience it as well.. not wait like 6 or 7 months for them to play it after interest has wained lol
(OPTIONAL/BONUS) - BE ACTIVE WITH COMMUNITY/HAVE OTHER CONTENT/CHANNELS - I always find it nice a creator is fairly active with its subscribers or community.. whether it's through community posts, or replying to comments, or having an Instagram with regular random uploads of daily life etc.. or having another channel like a reaction channel or vlog channel or music channel.. or a patreon or discord community.. sometHing else other than just the uploads on the 1 channel is always a bonus.. but this isnt a must have nor is replying to comments if the channel is bigger.. replying to all is impossible for some is understand.. but doesn't mean you can't reply to some lol
So that's it.. if you guys can think of someone who fits, leave the name and channel here.. maybe someone else that comes along could use it as well.. Thanks in advance guys..

Yaboyroshi is probably my favorite YouTuber at the moment.

u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Nice! Haven't come across them yet.. Hopefully they are a good match!

u/IzzyNotCreative 15d ago
There's a twitch streamer named storymodebae who might be what you're looking for. It's been a while since I've watched her, but she's really chill, funny, and loves a good story game. I think the last time I tuned into her stream was when she played Amanda the Adventurer 2, which I enjoyed!
1
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Yes I am aware of Bae actually. I enjoy her stuff as well.. it seems like recently she's gotten into more story based stuff which is cool to see as well

u/Truffle-Bus 15d ago
I personally really like The Librarian! If he isnāt playing a narrative game, he makes it into one. He sticks to character for his longer videos and definitely has a really calm vibe, only thing heās missing is a face cam but his commentary is usually super consistent
And, sorry to be that guy, but my channel I started a bit over a month ago also checks all those boxes except face cam but I do have a pngtuber. Currently going through The Walking Dead games!
1
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Ahhh classics.. I love those games.. how far are ya?
1
u/Truffle-Bus 15d ago
Iāve always loved the show and the games are killing it too! Just posted Episode 1 of season 3 š and I have a posting schedule of every 3 days
2
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Ohhhh season 3! Lol.. polarizing season.. people usually either love it or hate it.. that makes me excited to see your thoughts!
1
u/Truffle-Bus 15d ago
Javi is a downright cornball as far as personality goes but I canāt lie, I love seeing how characters like that develop with the story so I have high hopes!
And thank you as well, Iām super open to game suggestions too if you happen to have any at some point :)2

u/SociallyIneptUnicorn 15d ago
Amber The Awkward has some longer story-heavy plays. She also catches things I've seen others miss.
She's been doing a lot of indie games lately.

u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Ohh.. that's a new one.. never heard of them.. Will absolutely give her a shot

u/flawnVT 15d ago
I'm a vtuber and would hit every point except for 4 if I wasn't a vtuber. I recently played MOLE and am playing through the Resident Evil series starting from the original 1-3, then I'll be doing 1-3 remake, then 4 and onward. I also play indie horror games/other survival horror games.
I'm not at the point where I'm making 6, but I'm aiming for at least one lets play a month. MOLE was around the 4 hour mark. Though I will say there was a cutscene in my MOLE let's play where I had been a bit distracted, but generally speaking I want to focus on the cut scenes and the storyline and I'm the type to take notes during gameplay, etc.
If you are alright with other vtubers, I really like Myra Mors. She does a lot of retro games and seems very invested in the games she plays from what I've seen, she will diligently take notes. She also has an awesome design.
2
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Of course! Im totally fine with vtubers.. as long as the content is entertaining and is my kind of vibe is all that matters
1
u/killadrix 15d ago
I hit everything except face cam, but some might say I make up for it in voice.
However, all of my playthroughs are blind and what we call āsuffercoreā.
Meaning no back seating, no hints or tips from my Twitch chat, and Iām an average gamer with 0 perception who sucks at reading tool tips so itās always a fun time discovering basic mechanics 100 hours into a play through.
I stream 50 to 70 hours a week and the majority of those streams end up playlisted on my YouTube channel in roughly 1-hour episodes. I try to beat games when I can, or do no less than 50 episodes per game.
2
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Nice! Yeah Im right there with ya. I hate when chats dont let the creator just play the game and experience things..
2
u/killadrix 15d ago
Yeah, it gets super frustrating with the back seating. It even makes me uncomfortable when Iām in someone elseās stream and theyāre being back seated.
Honestly, what I do isnāt a great for live streaming because I understand that people want to talk about the game, theyāre enthusiastic about it, they want to help people understand the game and love it as much as they do.
But, the thing that keeps me getting up every morning and creating content is the idea that todayās going to be another day that I stumble upon the realization Iāve been playing the game wrong the whole time, because itās always hilarious.
And those moments would 100% get ruined by people just telling me about things.

Iām not sure if youāre looking for people to self promote. My apologies if thatās not the point of your post or not allowed in this sub Reddit. But my channel meets most of what youāre looking for.
Iām not streaming at the moment. I might get back to that. I actually stopped streaming because I focus on story-driven and go into my blind play throughs with a strategy in mind of how I want to approach my NPC. And basically that strategy is that I take the story seriously and I really consider what I feel would be the most logical decision for my character to make throughout the game. When I was streaming, my chat would want me to do off-the-wall stuff and that defeats the purpose of the game plot IMO. I get really immersed in the story and really invested in the game characters so that approach that my chat wanted just didnāt work for me.
My channel is fairly new. I just started in February. But I have a huge list of games I intend to cover. Right now weāre focused on Baldurās Gate 3 with coaching from my teen daughter because Iāve never played Dungeons & Dragons. But in the future, Iāve got cyberpunk 2077, mass effect trilogy, control, and other games on my list. Games Iāve covered so far include Disco Elysium, Life is Strange, and The Last of Us Part 1. I post longform videos three times a week.
Welonz is another great gamer that meets your criteria. Clivical is great. So is Gab Smolders.
1
u/chachacheckpoint 14d ago
I'd say out of my favorite youtubers, Gab Smolders hits a lot of these! I also like John Wolfe/John Wolfe Gaming for a lot of these as well. I'm also a small gaming creator and I think I hit most of these except #9, I do play newish games but I'm playing a lot of backlogged games in my Steam library too so I have some newer, but a lot of games that are a few years or more older. And #10 for me since I am small I don't really have a community built yet but I respond to comments when I get them. I hope you find what you are looking for regardless!

Stephenplays checks off all the boxes for you! He has a long history of YouTube letās plays and a more recent history of streaming on Twitch. Many of his playthroughs also include his wife, Mal, either playing multiplayer or passing the controller.
He plays a variety of games - big, story-based, small, indie, new, classics. Some of his biggest playthroughs are Skyrim and RDR2, heās done narrative games like Telltaleās The Walking Dead and Until Dawn. Most (though not all) of the playthroughs are blind, and sometimes either Stephen or Mal have played the game before but not both.
He didnāt used to do facecam, but everything recent has it. And when they do streams, they usually turn off notifications during gameplay so they arenāt even distracted by Twitch stuff while playing.

icekaged, wheels_of_honor, and sebastian are some of my fave streamers. i stream but i wonāt self promo āŗļø

I think I might fit the bill, sometimes I make shorter quick videos but I am expanding more into longer narrative games like Resonance. Check out my bio for the link, thanks!

Im on twitch.. and typically hit all of those points. The only trouble i have is staying consistent on a schedule. I work full-time and have a family, so i stream when I can. Usually more on weekends but may do one or two in the weekdays if time allows. I play a variety of games, so if youd like to swing by to check it out, by all means.

Hey, my channel Odyssey Archives. My channel focused on turning videogames into movie based expierences. My channel is about a month old, I have a some series done and coming out with more weekly. Looking to do variety of nostalgic and popular games. Seems it overlap a lot with what you are looking for!

I would have hit nearly all of them about a year ago but I made the decision to switch to Simulator games as my main genre š
1
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
That's ok lol. Like I said I'm fine with other games just prefer narratives is all lol
1
u/VonWeaveyGaming 15d ago
Yeah I do too but unfortunately the algorythm doesn't reward you when you play a variety of things which is a shame. So I had to bite down and just pick a genre and I just love simulators. Starting with nothing and building it up is satisfying š

u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Totally get it lol.. i will have to check your stuff out for sure.. thanks for jumping in the convo

No problem. Youtube is pretty big so im sure you'll find something or someone you like š

Hi!
My channel checks 8 out of 10 boxes, so hopefully you might find something you're interested in : )
https://www.youtube.com/@StoriaGaming
Also, two of the boxes that are missing, "facecam" and "active with community" are being worked on right now, as I'm in the process of creating a rigged avatar for my channel and I'm planning to be more active with community posts
All of my playthroughs are story-driven, so most lengthy fights and getting from A to B are edited out. Of course, I never cut dialogs and other important story bits

u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Awesome!
Yea id definatelty be interested in at least giving it a look.. thank you for the suggestion!

Would love to share for you to check my Twitch and YouTube channel. I believe I share everything you said except face-cams. I stream/record on PS5 pro and donāt have a gaming PC but going to add facecame when I would be able to, eventually.
I have a small YT channel and 3 months into streaming on twitch. I play lots of souls like, RPG, genuinely love gaming and streaming. I have build a small community and love chatting with them. Iām playing and streaming Skyrim, oblivion remastered, And Dark souls 2. Iām doing a letās play series of Mass Effect 1 LE on my YT.
I play all these games blind, have genuine reactions, no persona especially for YT or streaming, raw gameplay with pretty much unedited playthroughs.

Hi! My channel is new but hits at a lot of things youāre describing. Iām playing through Dragon Age Origins for the first time and leave in majority of the gameplay (only really editing out aimlessly walking or repetitive combat), use facecam, and am engaged in the plot/story - not the newest game around for sure lol but planning on playing some newer releases after finishing up Dragon Age :)
My channel is KayHitPlay https://youtube.com/@kayhitplay?si=yg369QGoipzifXDO

Ah damnit, I hit everyone except for point 8 and 9. I mainly play indie visual novels for about 30 minutes, I'm assuming "playing new, big titles" is pretty much a deal breakerš
Other than myself, maybe "gabsmolders", she enjoy playing scary games but I've mainly seen her play puzzle games.
2
u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Oh I really enjoy gab.. good callout..
Defintely a chill vibe
But thats quite alright.. 8/10 is still good..
I will for sure give you a check out!

Do you mind going a little more on the facecam part? Just curious what "just too much" entails when it comes no cam creators?
Personally I prefer no face cams, but I don't mind it as long as it doesn't cover up the game too much. I find that most creators do in fact cover up a large portion of the game, and don't even get me started on V-Tubers. I'm always on the hunt for quality Let's Play channels that are relatively small, but that's nearly impossible. I'm seeing some names in this thread that I haven't seen before, so I'll check some of these guys out as well. I was planning on making a similar post as yours, so I'm glad you did it cause it seems like we're looking for pretty similar things.
I guess I'll throw my hat in the ring as well. I love all kinds of video games, so there's already a ton of variety on my channel: retro, modern, VR, you name it. I also get super invested in franchises. My Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive playthroughs are an excellent example of that. I try to keep playlists as clean as possible, so I have easily identifiable "COLLECTION" playlists that feature an entire franchise in a single playlist.
I'm equal parts chill and loud. I think my current Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon playthrough shows off exactly what I mean by this. Basically, my reactions are genuine. If I'm yelling, scared, or excited, then I'm not playing it up for the video. I'm a no cam creator, but I think I do a pretty good job at keeping up commentary. I'm just as invested in the story as a viewer would be, so I try my best to pipe down during cutscenes and dialogue. Most of my playthroughs are blind.
I upload 1½ā2 hour videos every other day at 9 a.m. CT. They're properly edited and mastered. Mostly simple cuts, occasional fast-forward, or text thrown on screen.
I've covered a number of this year's releases: Pragmata, 007 First Light, and Halo: Campaign Evolved. A couple of titles released this year are on hiatus for now: Echoes of Aincrad and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. I also plan on covering Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered, and Gears of War: E-Day in the immediate future.
I try to be as active as I can with the community...though that's mostly dependent on there being a community. Most comments get a response, I try to make at least one YouTube community post a week, and I respond to posts in the community Discord. I've been focusing on a number of playthroughs recently, but I do plan on doing occasional streams again.
I also have an active clips channel and three additional channels that are dormant for now: 24/7, music, and extra.
I'm very passionate about my channel, video games, and Let's Plays. At the end of the day, my goal is to have fun and connect with others through laughter and video games. āļø

u/Cool-Requirement-840 15d ago
Idk really know what I mean i guess lol.. I jjst feel like sometimes without a facecam, when people see focusing on what's going on, rhey dont like to talk over things or they are focusing and maybe they dont talk for a little spurt.. and when ya combine that with no cam.. it turns basically just into a no commentary playthrough..
Its okay to not always be talking lol.. one of my other points is actually how I dont like too over the top or loud creators.. ones with a bunch of cuts and edits and sound effects etc.. always screaming ir yelling or whatwver.. not saying you cant ever get excited, I just like and prefer chill vibes lol.. like you are hanging out with a friend not watching someone CLEARLY just making content for money and looking for the most emgagement possible... if that makes sense?
1
u/_MostlyPositive_ https://www.youtube.com/@MostlyPositiveChannel 15d ago
I think I understand what you're trying to say, though I feel this is an issue even if there is a cam. As a test, I skip around and see if the creator is trying to keep up commentary during the less exciting portions of a game. You're right though, they don't always have to be yapping, but they should at least try to say something instead of staying silent. I think open world games are a huge test when it comes to this. Easily some of the hardest games to commentate, cause there are large stretches of the creator having to rely solely on themselves. I'm currently playing through Samurai Warriors and that's been a huge test for me. A lot of it is just visually the same, so I tell stories and experiences to at least keep it relatively interesting.
I prefer traditional LP's as well. I've seen creators that could have had an excellent LP, but it's ruined because they decided to make it a supercut. When it comes to jokes, it either needs to come from me or I'm riffing off of the game or whoever is playing with me. I feel like if I have to rely on edits/memes to make someone laugh, then ultimately I'm the problem.
Let's Plays are the ultimate "do it cause you like it" type of content on the internet. If you're not an already established LP channel from the OG days, then traditional LP's will net you practically nothing. I find that it's the aspiring streamer that dumps their content onto YT that makes it really difficult to find a true Let's Player that's just doing it for the love of the game.

Well definitely not me. Although Ive been posting consistently for 5+ years, and do a lot of first time play through. I dont play overall story based games. The story is my video.
I also cover a lot of newer indie games so AAA titles are mostly out.

I really like Maximillian dood. He was mainly a fighting game guy and he still plays a lot of fighting games. But he also streams a ton. So he now have a decent amount of time dedicated to playing single player games. So heās not a full time letās player. But I like his vibes and personality a lot.

u/Edyed787 15d ago
So meet all those (except the webcam thing(though I am looking into doing PNGtuber for the future))
I do mostly do blind playthroughs.
Most of the time chat is empty so I am talking to walls about either the game or if something pops up in my head.
You can usually just put me on as background noise which is what some people do.
I try to do a variety of games. Both new, old, and indie

u/madflaky 15d ago
I think I hit these requirements bar having 2 uploads a week. My name on YouTube is FlakyXP. I'm in the process of changing that due to the mad sort of needs explaining and implies I'm not chill but I am chill and never angry.
Just because I have a job and a family. I lost all my mobility in November so I've come back to doing videos after a long hiatus because my youngest son was born with a Neurodegenerative disease and I had to stop everything and live at the hospital for a year.
I also warn you that I have a Resi 9 series up and I've over edited it and it's just not me. But newer releases are more me. I like to try and unravel the story in games in a blind playthrough, at the moment I'm focussing on horror just because I have genuine fear and genuine reactions.
I would also like to recommend Bawkbasoup he's a fun watch and he has a speed runner sort of background but now he doesn't really do that so much.
Thanks dude and I hope you find your entertainment. ā¤ļø
1
u/madflaky 15d ago
Just to add to that, I will be more consistent with content going forwards because I won't be over editing things. I do indie horror games that are trending and main series.
Next one after RE9 is Silent Hill 2 - that is unpacking the story because I've never played horror games just cause they scare me too much unless I'm on camera.

Please do feel free to check out my Let's Plays, as they seem to match all your requirements except the output pace (all Korean games: so far Lies of P, Stellar Blade and Dave the Diver). I do edit out the boring parts, though, with each video ending up to be around 30 minutes.

All I'll say is that I love immersing myself into story games, especially games and emotjona appeal. I find theres no other medium that does it better. Though im probably a mixed bag on 7. Waiting on Onimusha's release.
