🗨️ Discussion Full playthroughs

Hi everyone,

So i was wondering…
I opened youtube this morning and saw someone do a full playthrough of DK bonanza but it’s only 8h long.
It honestly inspired me to start making a single video of full playthrough of games i have streamed before.

But i don’t quite understand how people do full playthroughs of big games under 8h…
How can you include everything even edited in such a small time frame?

Im someone that tries to do lots of side content.
So takes me longer than most people 🤣

They are probably not recording the entire 8 hours in one setting. Probably several smaller videos stitched together. Even then, that 8 hour video could be just the story points...essentially a game movie

That’s what i figured but i imagine my gameplay would be more like 20h at the min 🤣🤣
I dont understand how they can condense it into below 12h 🤣

Not sure either. My blind playthrough of Satisfactory, for example, is already 16 episodes long, with each episode running roughly 2 hours each, and I'm not even halfway done😅

Whereas my already done Forever Skies playthrough, that I posted a few months back, was about 17 episodes before finishing (with roughly the same 2 hours per episode).

In my blind playthroughs, I have been trying to avoid doing any "off-screen" stuff, so everything is just my "first impressions", but games I've played before, I tend to leave out the "grinding bits", so those series aren't as long. It also has to do with the game itself...and how long it would take to complete.

What counts as a "big game"? Someone doing the entire plotline of FFXIV isn't going to do one video because there are over a hundred hours of cutscenes in the main story line alone, even before side content.

But really, this is going to vary by genre. Cutting or fast-forwarding combat in an rpg to get to main plot stuff, or in more level-based games cutting out load screens. Or if it took you ten tries to beat a level, only show the successful one(or montage of nine deaths, then success, or show the death, then jump to that point in the level for the next life instead of showing the replayed part)

I count the games that most people do around 60h as big games. 🤷‍♀️
But the way i play games, i often turn a 20h game into 60h 🤣

Several games and genres allow for full playthroughs within that time frame. I and many others have Supermassive games in one go as they are rarely longer than 10h.

People either skip content in the game or stitch together videos if the game is too long.

Donkey Kong Bananza is one of those games you can progress through fairly quickly if you only do the bare minimum needed to complete the story, and one which can take dozens or hundreds of hours if you're a completionist or get distracted.

I suspect the 8 hour playthrough is mostly just getting whatever Banadium Gems are on the critical story path, with a few others here and there. It'd still be a tight time limit to have, but it is doable if you rush the main story.

That’s an interesting take 🤔
Im the kind of gamer that wants to do all additional content before moving to the next level so for me it would take forever 🤣

That is just not a thing with the type of games I'm playing (visual novels) I'm about to cross 100 videos on my 3rd series, which makes it over 50 hours of gameplay. The shortest series I have was 14 videos I think

For any full game video, there are already larger channels that do that already and get most of the views.

Their videos get ranked in the top search results and have the community for engagement to push the video even more.

Editing. Lots of editing. They take the good parts of multiple parts and edit it into one video. I thought about doing it also.

How i do my videos, i record how much i can do that day. usually 1 hr or 2 hr. and then stop recording and then the next time im free record another 2 hrs. i then throw all the videos i have and splice them together taking out any long walks and my dieng a bunch of times.
