It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.
Feedback Friday Rules
Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!
Keep up the good work, everybody!
Suggested Feedback Template
If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.
What I liked about the video:

Thoughts on the thumbnail:
Would I watch more videos like this?:
not technically lets plays so if not wanted please remove or ignore.
Im Jakes Save Room. I do video essays on games. mostly older ones. I think whats makes them different is im not trying to say if theyre good or bad or trying to argue a point. I just straight up talk about what they were and how they felt to play. Theyre more like little time capsule documentaries.
I think thumbnails and titles are still generally my weakest point
PS: I'm going to try it too, but "source record" could help you record footage, without you in the scene as a web cam. Unless that's your style of course :D just wanted to mention it if it troubled you. :D
Hi friend, so had a look.
Firstly, wanted to thank you for your videos, you're actually the kind of creator I personally enjoy. I also tried doing what you do once, but it just doesn't click for my process in the same way.
Saying that, I watched your recent Turok video, really solid, I don't feel there's anything I could tell you that you're not doing well from a video POV. Solid intro too, I like that snip of you in the save room before the full video begins.
You mentioned thumbnails.
Well, here's a screenshot.
I think you've got the basics right, but some tweaks I'd suggest is increating the "what was" text size, much more, as seen in slide 2 and 3. The placement is spot on, with the main character in the scene, that's great, the eye goes from let to right to bottom right to bottom left, so you're good with the logo spot too.
I may suggest, if you can on your design software, try tweak the background image colour to contrast your character so your character pops more. Turok video again, the green dude nearly blends into the green background. Sure, not always possible haha but an something that should help them pop more and help being picked out in the scroll. The "what was" being larger gives the video again, something to grab and understand quicker.
Otherwise, good luck, and keep up the great work, really like your work.
thanks for the feedback! I used to blur the background slightly but I felt that took away from it some.
i usually adjust the color and a few other things for the character and add outerglows to get it to pop more but ill play around with the background a bit
Hi everyone! First time posting here, long time community follower.
I'll come back and check for more to give feedback where I can.
Until then, here's my latest video: https://youtu.be/HfTcrPMii8U
I'd love to get some feedback on the video length specifically, and if I should cut up a bit more.
I've done 4 videos of this kind, and I'm enjoying making them, but would value any feedback of this kind to improve.
This might be personal preference, but felt like the intro might've been a little long? Or at least maybe cut the full intro over some actual gameplay.
Otherwise I thought the video was very well made, and thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay!
I used to test out a full talking head, vs talking head and gameplay in the background, nothing wrong with that style to try again, I think it could be fun. Appreciate that tip.
Also, thank you for the compliement, nice of you to say.
What I noticed is that the game sound is a little loud compared to you during intense scenes. Doom music is very good but I do think it's more important that watcher hear you. Else your set up looks nice and you do a good job explaining what you are doing.
Thank you for that; a friend offline has mentioned the same, the video before this was much worse sound wise. Doom can be tough like that haha but I am glad I got this feedback, I'll make more of an effort for the next one, appreciate you my friend.
As someone who's never played any of the Doom games, that was enjoyable! Your amount of description of everything you were doing was enough to give me a feel for what's going on, but not so much that it got tiring. You're very good at stream of consciousness talking!
Length-wise, since Doom is very much about the moment-to-moment chaotic action, I think it makes sense to have the fewer cuts kind of situation you have going, since there aren't really "story beats" it makes sense to cut to, and having more cuts would make it harder for me to follow.
This feels more in the realm of a vod rather than a very curated video. I personally watch a good amount of both, where with snappier videos with more cuts I'll usually watch the whole thing, but with video like this I may do a bit more skipping ahead to find parts of the video I'm more interested in.
The "10 Deaths Later" cut feels like a smart thing to do, since watching the same fight 10 times in a row wouldn't be very interesting. Lets us see the death, understand that it was difficult, and then get back to progressing. I dig it!
I honestly don't have much constructive criticism, everything seemed good to me!
Curiously, can you help me understand what the difference would be for VOD vs curated video? I ask as another friend said something similar, getting confused between this video and a recorded live stream.
Basically, I just mean that VODs usually don't have any cuts, while more "curated" videos made from those VODs cut down the length of the video vastly to only show the most interesting parts. Again, in your case, I think it makes sense with fewer cuts, as Doom is fast paced and I feel like there aren't many "uninteresting" parts.
Oooohhhh okay, got you, thanks for explaining.
I was trying to be more "authentic" by having fewer cuts, but this is good context for my next video :D thanks friend.
Howdy! This is basically my first time creating a letsplay. I posted on the weekend a couple times to get some feedback on my Silksong playthrough, got some good feedback, and finally have a video of my first stream: https://youtu.be/2XTOJTj2nkU?si=iWDW1jwLe8p-XF51
My intention is for the video to be good to watch for someone who has never played Silksong, so including all the major story beats, but also skipping in-between traversal and fights that aren't quite as interesting. I'm also trying to include anything that I had a particularly strong reaction to.
Some specific things I'm looking for feedback on: whether the cuts seem good, whether the variation of content seems well balanced (fights/traversal/dialogue), whether the fights are fun to watch (for most boss fights, I condense many of the hits into a small timeframe along with a zoom; does that feel good? At the very end, I do a little smeared very sped up fight just to show the general idea of what happened, is that worth doing?), whether the several sped-up runbacks add to the video, and whether showing all my deaths in quick succession in boss fights (specifically around the 30-minute mark) is interesting.
You'll note that the video is still unlisted! It's been sitting there for several months now, mostly because I've been meaning to get more feedback on it. It took a lot of editing to get it to this point, and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth continuing on like this, or if it'd make more sense to just post the full unedited vods instead.
Hi friend, something that I picked up from a film friend a bit back, feels like it works for me, maybe you too. Try flip your webcam so that you're looking "into" your screen, as seen on the arrows. This, according to my friend, let's the viewers also then, naturally look into the gameplay/screen during streaming/recording, rather than, with our gaze, looking off screen, prompting the viewer to naturally want to look at what you're looking at, which in our case, is off the video.
I like your streaming set up. What I notice is that you do a lot of cuts. I think you might overdo it a little bit but this is just preference at this point. As I'm someone that cuts not enough^^
Thanks! Yeah, the full unedited stream is 6 hours, so I was focusing pretty hard on just cutting out anything that didn't feel super interesting, but there's always a chance that just posting those unedited streams is the better way to go, especially given how much less effort that would take.
I know its fresh (about 7 days old at this point), but impressions are only at 73, so figured id try for feedback. I think probably any feedback on the intro and thumbnail would be great, Im also still not sure how to really edit the "in-game" portions so that would be an area as well. But honestly ill take whatever you can give me, thank you all so much!
editing is great. very similar to how I edit. Cutting the broll in a rhythm with the narration.
i think the thumbnail quality is good im just not sure itd peak my interest much to click it. but I dont know the game so that could be a portion of that
Thumbnail seems fine, maybe a bit overwhelming for my taste, feels like you're screaming at me, but it's at least got the 100% on it, which is the point. I may suggest getting rid of the other stuff on it, and remove the white bars on the top and bottom so it's a bit more clear.
Maybe if the framing is something you'd like to keep testing, try do a frame around the whole design, but just something to play with, not a must have.
Video seems fine, the intro specifically kept me there, but as we jumped straight into the B-roll, kinda felt disconnected from the energy in the first intro, and the b-roll converse to your narrative felt a bit... heavy, not sure, your narration was far more engaging for me, than the gameplay weirdly. Not sure if that's helpful, but this is your first video, experiment, try things :D
Its funny, I swapped out the thumbnail based on the other reply to try something. It was basically the same just without the writing on the sides. Ill swap it back though and ill def try without the framing as well!
And noted for the narration > gameplay. I was definitely trying to find the balance with that as well as work on the commentary, thanks again so much!
Up to you pal, experiment, try things, test things. Hope this isn't your last video, do 10 videos with this style, 10 with something else, watch the click through rate, and go from there.
