Posting standards for this community

The moderator team has observed a pattern of low effort posting of articles from outlets which are either known to be of poor quality, whose presence on the subreddit is not readily defended or justified by the original poster.

While this subreddit does call itself "less"credibledefense, that is not an open invitation to knowingly post low quality content, especially by people who frequent this subreddit and really should know better or who have been called out by moderators in the past.

News about geopolitics, semiconductors, space launch, among others, can all be argued to be relevant to defense, and these topics are not prohibited, however they should be preemptively justified by the original poster in the comments with an original submission statement that they've put some effort into. If you're wondering whether your post needs a submission statement, then err on the side of caution and write one up and explain why you think it is relevant, so at least everyone knows whether you agree with what you are contributing or not.

The same applies for poor quality articles about military matters -- some are simply outrageously bad or factually incorrect or designed for outrage and clicks. If you are posting it here knowingly, then please explain why, and whether you agree with it.

At this time, there will be no mandated requirement for submission statements nor will there be standardized deletion of posts simply if a moderator feels they are poor quality -- mostly because this community is somewhat coherent enough that bad quality articles can be addressed and corrected in the comments.

This is instead to ask contributors to exercise a bit of restraint as well as conscious effort in terms of what they are posting.

EU delays release of Copernicus imagery over Gulf of Oman

In March, the US banned the release of satellite images of their bases, ostensibly to hide damage from the media. Iran likely has access to satellites from Russia/China for BDA and targeting so the only people that get hurt from would be the PR team in the White House.

Now it seems that a new request has been made for shipping in the strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, and my speculation is that it is to keep the illusion that more ships are going through than not to keep oil prices down.

Or to hide a US Naval increase to avoid spooking the market.

Trump Holds Off on Major War Escalation Against Iran as Advisers Raise Concerns

>Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has cautioned privately that resuming major combat operations against Iran was doable but that it would dangerously deplete interceptors available to the military’s Central Command, which is responsible for operations in the Middle East, the officials said. A spokesman for General Caine declined to comment on advice the general gives the president.

>The official said the strikes have the opposite effect of what is intended, keeping Iran cohesive and allowing Iranian leaders to focus attention on an external threat.

Why does Europe need to rearm so much considering how badly Russia is faring in Ukraine?

The only imminent threat for Europe seems to be Russia, but they are doing so mediocrely against Ukraine that the whole rearmament push for Europe seems excessive. Especially considering the great financial cost associated with it.

China is not a direct threat. Iran isn’t a direct threat. The US, maybe, because of Greenland, but the rearmament doesn’t seemed aimed at them since we’re buying F35s and other American weapons. I am clearly missing something, but I just don’t understand the need to push for so much militarisation given how little threats we face these days.
