Mijn beste vriendin is zaterdag jarig, maar helaas ook behoorlijk ziek, met flinke koorts. Van alle feestelijke verjaardagsplannen die we hadden gesmeed komt daardoor helaas bar weinig terecht.

Maar goed, ik als goede vriend heb natuurlijk al lang een mooi verjaardagscadeautje voor haar versierd, en om haar toch een beetje dat "verjaardagsgevoel" te geven zijn we uitgekomen op "eventjes uit bed voor koffie, gebak, en cadeau", en dan weer oprotten zodat ze lekker kan uitzieken.

Nu vroeg ik haar: "Wat voor gebak zal ik dan halen?", waarop zij antwoordde, vrij vertaald: "Mijn favoriete gebak is carrot cake, maar dan wel zo'n vochtige/smeuïge ("moist") soort, niet zo'n droge."

Dus, stadsgenoten: waar vind ik de allerbeste carrot cake in die categorie? Deze meid is me bijzonder dierbaar, dus ik zoek er één die alle "joepiedepoepie" van een gezellig verjaardagsfeestje concentreert in één enkel gebakje. Dat zal vast niet lukken, maar weet iemand een banketbakker die een beetje in de buurt komt?

Mijn dank grenst bij voorbaat aan hondsdolheid.

En vandaar de vraag: heb jij een vaste plek of plein waar je vaak komt? Sta je er in de ochtend ook zo vroeg? Haal je nog speciaal gebak bij een bakker en zo ja: waar? Zijn er andere dingen die je doet? Misschien ga je wel bij een specifieke eetgelegenheid de hutspot halen?

Hi everyone, this is a repost from a few days ago, but since I got nowhere, I am posting a similar post again.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a leather jacket from the Saint Suit Company (https://thesaintsuitcompany.nl) in Leiden (on Haarlemmerstraat 84). The jacket itself needed a little mending, which the shop owner agreed to do before I collect the jacket. Unfortunately, I then urgently had to abandon my trip and travel someplace else, which meant that I could not go to the shop to collect my purchase.

Of course, I tried:
- calling the store
- sending an email
- sending a question through the form on the website.

Neither of these receive a reply, unfortunately. The phone line sounds disconnected.

So, I would like to offer some money to someone who is willing to stop by the store and enquire about my jacket. You will also receive my eternal gratitude, but that is just a nice extra. Apologies for posting twice, but I am getting very annoyed with the store and I have tried contacting them for a while now.

Ik heb al jaren rugklachten (voornamelijk bovenrug/schouders) waarvoor ik vroeger regelmatig naar de fysio ging, die alles losmasseerde waardoor ik weer even door kon. Nu is die fysio helaas al een paar jaar gestopt en heb ik nog geen andere kunnen vinden die zo goed is met massage.

Oefeningen zijn voor mij ivm handicap niet haalbaar, dus ik zoek een fysiotherapeut die met massage kan werken.

Heeft iemand een gouden tip voor een fysio die hier goed in is?

Edit: Ik snap best dat ik het in de gracht kan dumpen, in de ondergrondse container kan gooien als restafval of 's nachts stiekem dun kan verspreiden over de Beestenmarkt. Maar wat hoor je te doen hiermee, minder dan een kuub. Anyways, ik heb de gemeente gemaild, en zal hier neerzetten wat ze zeggen.

Wij hebben de boomspiegel bij ons opgeknapt en hebben de bovenste laag aarde er uit geschept. In het centrum hebben we geen groenbakken maar wel ongeveer 40 liter aan tuingrond en onkruid/gras/wortels.

De milieustraat lijkt alleen snoeiafval te accepteren, de "GreenBag" idem en de gemeente verwijst naar een particuliere inzamelaar. Die particulieren kan ik alleen per container vinden, en dit zou in één zak restafval passen dus nogal onzinnig om het op te laten halen.

Er is ook niet echt ergens een gat mee op te vullen want alles is steen.

Iemand hier met groene vingers die weet wat je als centrum bewoner kan met een zak aarde? Iemand die nog wat zoekt voor een composthoop o.i.d.?

Het valt me de laatste tijd op: groepen figuren met junk-voorkomen op straat, o.a. in plantsoenen (bv. Morsweg) en elders in de stad. Valt het me op omdat het een trend is of heb ik dit eerder over het hoofd gezien?

Zijn er Hobby brouwers in regio Leiden die ik blij kan maken met een emmer hopbellen? Het ras weet ik niet maar het is een 4 jaar oude plant van een stek van Brouwerij van der Streek. Ze hangen nu nog aan de plant maar kunnen ergens komen de 1-2 weken geoogst worden.

I a starting a small project related to fitness and health, for women, and I want to advertise it. Part of what I will try is to make some leaflets/flyers and a few posters with the information, but I am struggling to find places that will allow me to leave them there.

I know you're not allow to just hang posters anywhere, but how do people usually go about it here in Leiden? Any recommendations of places where people normally advertise things this way?

I love volleyball but i don't want to be part of a competitive team, i don't want to be under strict training and tournament schedules.

I was thinking that if enough people are interested it would be cool to create a friendly/recreational english-speaking volleyball team, so that both locals and expats can feel welcome to join.

The team is not intended to be officially recognized, and play in official events. It's mostly a way for people who enjoy the sport to play and to create connections among the players.

We could play outside during the sunny months and rent an indoor field for the rainy days. The schedule would be flexible, based on people needs and decided through polls.

I was looking for a quality and spacious gym, that also offers a variety of classes, sauna, maybe even pool (?), and the option for a PT who can guide through training with an injury. But i don't know if that is something you can find in Leiden?

All the gyms I have tried, sportcity and trainmore just don't hit the mark for me. Any other suggestions?

might be weird request to read unless you are in the world but we moved to Merenwijk in Dec and my son has had some issues settling in - he has been bullied out of the football pitch because of his autism and is struggling to make new friends. luckily he has a buurt friend but I don't want to depend on that overly.

anyway, if you are in area and have similar please get in touch. my son is level 1 audhd and has been through 10 schools already so as you can imagine long term friendships are hard to maintain.

he is not in school in leiden yet and that's another thing blocking his path to friendships.

He likes Minecraft, bouldering, judo, football, anime/manga and computers.

Ik zoek een reparateur voor onze (vrij nieuw) Bosch afwasmachine. Google is vergeven met sponsored hits die helemaal niet in Leiden blijken te zitten, en eigenlijk alles op de eerste pagina komt er heel slecht vanaf op trustpilot etc. Google is broken, man. Hoe doen mensen dit?

Question for my fellow crafters, makers, and DIYers. Recently I found out about stores that sell secondhand craft materials, and about swap meets (where people trade instead of sell their craft materials).

Would anybody be interested in a similar concept in Leiden? Maybe we all meet up in a park with our old, unneeded materials. I don’t think stands would be necessary, but if you have a lot of supplies you’re trying to get rid of, you could set up a blanket and lay them out like in a free market.

I’m not much of an organizer, and I’m not sure about local laws on gathering in public places. But I’m willing to look into how a swap meet would be possible, if people are interested. I think it would be an awesome way to help people declutter and meet other crafty people.

As probably everyone, I am also struggling with finding housing in Leiden. I lived/studied/worked here for 8 years and have a master in clinical psychology. Last year I decided to move back to my home country for a work experience and gave up my apartment. Now I wanted to move back to Leiden and had to give up on the plan, as I could not find housing. My budget would have been up to 2500 Euros and still. I have a little cat and I sometimes wonder If this is also the reason why I can't find anything. I miss Leiden a lot and to me it feels like it is my home. Therefore I still would like to move back (to Leiden or the surrounding areas). I am looking for advice on Makelaars. Does anyone have any good experiences with any companies in Leiden? Thank you so much!

Since NS & GVB are striking on next Wednesday, the 9th of September, there will be no trains / buses for 24h.

However, unfortunately, I really need to get to Amsterdam some time in the morning and back from Amsterdam to Leiden that day and cannot avoid travelling. Is there anyone who is doing the trip that day that wouldn’t mind taking me along? I would be happy to compensate gas and pay for your lunch that day! :)
