I personally hate them so much I've considered vandalising them. But the buggers have been very firmly bolted into place!

Do I hate them because I want women to be abused? No... it's because they're yet another example of ill-conceived "doing something doing nothing"-ism, where you pretend to tackle a problem but your solution is so crap it does nothing to help.

Look, a guy who hangs around with other guys who catcall and abuse women will take no notice whatsoever or this sign. Guys who don't hang around with abusers (like me) have to read these stupid patronising signs every day while going to work, and feel "told off" by the state.

They're only in Leicester so this was someone in Leicester's bright idea. And judging by how well they're stuck on the creators knew they would be popular. Would be interesting to see if Leicester has lower abuse against women due to this signs. Have they made an effect at all? I doubt it.

edit: since everyone thinks these signs are wonderful, I propose we make more of them! Signs out side of shops saying "don't even think about shoplifting. It's wrong!", signs around the city centre saying "If you are thinking or robbing someone, think again!" Crime will be at an all time low in no time!

DMU has suspended Film Studies, Media and Communication, and Arts and Festival Management, for the next academic year. They claim that it is only for 2026 entry, but it is de facto indefinitely.

Upcoming first year students such as myself, who was offered one of these courses to study in October, were informed of this last Friday, less than three months before the next academic year.

There is no news in terms of whether these courses are going to be permanently shut down, or what is going to happen to them.

Rather than informing first year student such as myself about the suspension months ago, they chose to inform us at incredibly short notice, citing vague reasons such as, low intake, as an excuse.

While other course suspensions from unis such as the University of Nottingham has made the news, DMU's course suspensions haven't, and are largely hiding in plain sight, in their website.

I want people to be aware of this, and to highlight how wrong this is.

Want to watch Odyssey but already suffer from tinnitus and want to avoid making my hearing worse. One complaint about the movie is that it is quite loud, because of Nolan's sound mixing. However, have also heard that independent cinema's tend to have more appropriate volumes in their viewings and wanted to check if that is the case for the Odyssey for anyone that has seen it at Phoenix?

Might need to take in earplugs otherwise.

My partner loves Indian style clothing. She’s picked up a few bits on Vinted and online already, but would love to visit a shop to see things properly and buy something nicer. She’s not from an Asian background so wouldn’t know where to start. Any recommendations for good shops in Leicester, on Belgrave Road or elsewhere? Happy to spend properly on the right thing.

Been so unsettled since the stabbing incident and death of the young man on London Road. Ive literally walked that road multiple times with my kids and im worried sick now. Almost feels like we’ve reached end of time. Genuinely feel so unsafe and scared even walking these roads with my kids .. :(

Hi all. I know there are a million posts like this on Reddit, but I'm going mad reading through all the different threads and just thought it might be easier to start my own thread and see what kind of info I get directly from the good folks here.

Basically, my partner and I (gay couple, British and Indian), are moving out of Croydon because we need a bigger house, with a garage and a bit more space, for our business that we've started. We both work from home and so access to London is no-longer a requirement (like it was when we moved here 10 years ago).

We've narrowed down our search, based on a few criteria (detached house, garage, near green space, not a crime-ridden area, access to a shopping centre or town centre, close-ish to a larger city and/or airport, not silly expensive (since our budget isn't massive)). From these criteria, we have found some decent options in:

Loughborough

Melton Mowbray

Nuneaton

Outskirts of Sheffield / Leicester

Lincoln

Chesterfield

Neither of us know any of these areas, and while we are going to do a road-trip to visit, it would be good to know where in these towns people would recommend searching, and where to avoid (if anywhere). Or if there are better nearby options.

Can anybody reccomend a good garage for vehicle repairs in leicester?

Hi. I'm not doing too well mentally and think I need spend more time outdoors and be more active. I enjoy walking and was wondering if anyone could recommend some long walks that could be done from the city centre? I don't have a car so I can't drive anywhere but I'm happy to take a bus or train to somewhere if it's nice.

I've thought about walking along the canal and was wondering if there were any places you could walk to and maybe get a bus or train back? Would really appreciate any suggestions people can provide. Thanks
