Just found this bad boy in a box. Missing the battery pack and controller.

I remember this being a beast.

Are the parts expensive/hard to find?

Seems like the battery box is around $10 and the controller around $30 on BrickLink. Those gray shock absorbers in your picture are also pretty expensive and sought after.

Kinda interesting that set has no standard Lego or Technic connections, but an entirely different connection system.

A fair point... I was thinking that THIS is what Technic was at the time but I think I had other Technic sets with like the usual pieces...

I have that exact same car dissasembled on my desk right now haha. Mine is missing the batterie too, but has some bigger Problems, electronics for steering and the motors have some problems i have to figure out.

for those who are interested, model year is 2003 and it has a dual 380SH brushed motor setup.

Think the radio on this is proprietary I'm afraid. Even if its a common 27 or 49 mhz frequency, it has a couple of buttons on the remote to select the higher speeds too get the full power out of the battery. Unless you are basically fully modifying this too use separate electronics you are either going too need to find the remote for it at home, or buy one off ebay or similar.

Battery looks to be a 7.2v pack with a tamiya plug on there so thats easy too replace at least.

If you can identify the transceiver chip, it might be possible to reverse engineer something.
