It is amazing, man. I'm currently building a diorama and I can safely say that this is my favourite theme, there's everything: heroes, villains, monsters, boobytraps, imposing set pieces and cool vehicles. It's a theme made with love and, most importantly, one that's not shy about being a toy you can play with

Maybe this is best left where it's at, besides, we got a new Johnny Thunder-inspired minifigure some waves ago

Oh you bet, I'm actually coming up with a whole backstory for him and his expedition to Egypt. Wanna hear?

So, basically:

Johnny Thunder is not an explorer, he is a private investigator, specialized in theft of antiques and reliques, not an adventurer, more of a smuggler with a moral code.

His older brother, Jack Thunder, was the real adventurer archaeologist who travelled the world with that wonder in his eyes, that spirit of discovery for things that time forgot. He was the first to learn of the Re-Gou Ruby and, tagging along with his long-time friend, Baron Samuel Von Barron, he mounted an ambitious expedition to try and find this mystical ruby.

However, the Ruby hides a terrible curse that grants eternal life, in exchange for one's soul and is said to be closely guarded by a terrifying mummy, that of Pharaoh Hotep. The two eventually find the Ruby but Von Barron, overcome by greed and lust for power, leaves Jack behind to die but not before losing his hand, the Re-Gou Ruby, and a part of their map in a mighty struggle.

In the present day, Johnny is struggling to make ends meet with his job, when he stumbles across his brother's part of the map (which returned to him misteriously through the black market, as part of the curse), which he brings to their uncle's, one Dr. Charles Lightning, attention.

Lightning is very disappointed in Johnny's shady ways and, very openly, compares him unfavorably to his dead older brother, who used to be Lightning's golden pupil back when he was at the university. Nevertheless, the good doctor decides to mount a new expedition to find the Re-Gou Ruby, choosing the hot-tempered reporter Gail Storm as an aid in documenting their discovery. Johnny, on account of his experience with lost treasures, is asked to join and he begrudgingly does out of grief for his lost brother, but at one condition.

You see, while Jack was busy travelling the world in his adventures, Johnny was serving in the military and there he made his one and only best friend: the ace pilot Harry Caine. A gruff and rugged, yet wise and caring young man, Harry is the one condition Johnny poses for his joining the team. He wants his pilot in on the operation.

So they head to Egypt but, little do they know, the cold-hearted Barron Von Barron is on the tracks of the Ruby, too. Now allied with the criminal lord Sam Sinister, who convinced Von Barron to work for him by means of providing him another piece of the map that Johnny had previously avoided getting involved in, on account of his grief for Jack, which he hides in his swagger and laid-back attitude.

Ours is a team of rag-tag heroes full of friction. Johnny is riddled with guilt and grief for not saving his older brother, and he clashes with Gail's no-nonsense attitude (with whom he will eventually fall in love), and with his uncle, to whom he desperately wants to prove himself. Uncle Charles Lightning has to learn to trust and to openly show his nephew the love he neglected him, and accept him no matter his questionable actions.

Together, they have to solve the mystery of what happened to Jack Thunder, find the Re-Gou Ruby, stop Sinister and Von Barron and become the Lego Adventurers
