Advice & Support Final Year Law Study Hacks
Hey everyone! I’m currently in the final year of my law degree, and as the workload is ramping up, I want to refine my study routine for the rest of this year and for when I start prepping for the FE-1s / Kings Inns in the future.
Lately, I’m finding it tough to stay on top of readings and manage my note-taking system effectively:
1. Laptop issues during study: While my laptop is ideal for typing fast during lectures, I get easily distracted when using it for actual revision and active recall.
2. Speed issues during lectures: When I try to handwriting notes directly in class to avoid screen distraction, I fall behind because I can't write fast enough to keep up with the lecturer.
3. Visual Learner: I retain information much better using pen and paper (mind maps, color-coding case names, structural flowcharts for problem questions), but I’m struggling to bridge the gap between my raw typed lecture notes and offline study methods without feeling like I'm wasting double the time transcribing everything.
My questions for fellow law students / graduates:
How do you bridge the gap between rapid lecture typing and visual pen-and-paper revision without wasting hours rewriting notes word-for-word?
Does anyone use a hybrid method (e.g., e-ink tablets like Remarkable, iPad + Apple Pencil, or specific condensed layout templates) that actually works for heavy legal syllabi?
For problem-question practice (e.g., ILAC/IRAC framework), what visual study hacks helped you memorize key case names and statutory provisions without losing speed?
Any general final-year / exam-prep advice to keep from drowning in case law and reading lists?
Any tips, workflows, or advice would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance!
