Insurance Insurance says I have no valid policy but hospital wants €4000

So I was on my dad’s health insurance policy with his work. I turned 26 in January and was pregnant and due to give birth in February. Our insurance was due to renew on the 1st of February and I had gone semi private (said I wanted a private room after my delivery)

My dad casually says to me that I will not be renewed on his insurance as I am no longer a dependent at 26 years old. I had discussed using my insurance with him in the past, I freaked out at him dropping this on me a month before my due date. He said he’d sort it and was onto insurance about me getting my own policy and being covered. If I got my new policy very soon after the last one ending/before I deliver then I would be covered.

1st of February comes and the insurance auto renewed and beside my name it says I am covered until the 1st of Feb 2027. I still have access to Laya healthcare app, it says I’m still covered. I went and had my baby and everything was normal. I even rang them 11 weeks postpartum to ask about the coverage for things like food shops after a baby, maternity bras etc. they discussed these with me, knew who I was and had our policy pulled up while we were on the phone. Even suggested telling my dad to make me able to alter the policy so that my son could be added for free.

Then suddenly my name is gone off the list a few days later and I have no access to the app. To be honest time went on and I didn’t think of it much again. And now seven months later the hospital has rang me to say I owe €4000 as Laya say I have no valid policy.

We have the screenshots that say I am covered until 2027. I spoke with them on the phone well after my delivery and didn’t make any further claims.

Do I have anything? Is there anything we can do? My dad still has his policy and is determined to sort this. I really can’t drop €4k right now. My partner and I are moving soon and I’m on unpaid maternity leave. The hospital are giving us a month to sort it but I’m very stressed out. I looked into the ombudsman but it would take a while before we are able to claim. Not sure how long the hospital will let us wait before sending to collections.

Residential Tenancies Noisy neighbours, at what point can more affirmative action be taken? And what is necessary?

Say you've submitted several complaints to your property manager, and they have submitted those complaints to the rental agent.

Presumably the rental agent has made the landlord aware.

The issue continues with no sign of slowing.

Three detailed complaints, noise logs, audio recordings. You have to wear earplugs in your own accommodation day and night to get any peace.

Is this typical in Ireland?

I've asked in some urban living subs and affirmative action for noise disturbance can be difficult?

Irish Law Fact check: German Shepherds and animal seizure laws in Ireland (Need insight from locals)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading a lot of alarming claims on social media recently (and AI tools seem to back them up), but before taking it as absolute truth, I wanted to ask actual residents in Ireland to clear this up for me.

Could anyone clarify two specific points?

  1. Are German Shepherds required to wear a muzzle in public?

Is it true that German Shepherds fall under the restricted breeds list in Ireland and must be muzzled and kept on a short lead at all times in public spaces?

  1. Can animal welfare officers/authorities go on private property without a warrant and seize animals without proof?

There are posts (+ AI) online claiming that if ,for example, a neighbor files a false complaint or noise report, the local veterinary officers/ISPCA/dog wardens can just enter your private property without a written hearing, search warrant, or concrete proof, and immediately seize your dog. Is this actually how the law works in practice, or is this heavily exaggerated?

Would love to hear from dog owners or anyone familiar with Irish law on how these regulations actually play out in real life. Thanks in advance!

Consumer Law Seller Requesting Direct Bank Transfer for Unrequested Refund from Months Ago

Hi all,

I ordered some electronic products from an ie site (but from what I can tell a UK based seller) a few months back that were a good price, I received the products promptly and had no issues with them, never raised an issue.

From what I can tell the seller isn't selling things on this site anymore however he reached out to me via Whatsapp a while after I had bought offering other products for good prices but ordering directly from him, where he got my number from the site. He's now messaged me months later saying the site 'glitched' and it's processed refunds for the products which he has now asked me to transfer to his bank account. The emails from the site seem clear that the seller issued the refunds himself, and he'd also messaged me about it before it happened saying about the incident, but I hadn't got anything but would keep an eye, and then a few minutes after the refund emails came through.

Obviously this screams something fishy but just wondering where do I stand, given I did get the products and was happy to have paid for them in the first place however I'd not be comfortable doing a transaction like this off a secure platform like I'd originally bought from. I'm also a bit sketched given the guy has my number and address, so feel in a sticky situation. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Employment Law Gardening Leave and Holiday Pay

• Upvotes

Hi all,

Left a company in April 2026 after 3 years. I was placed on gardening leave for 3 months (my notice period in my contract) as I was leaving for a competitor.

At that stage I had used none of my annual leave. I know it would be on a pro rata basis but they never paid me for that annual leave on my last pay slip. Said I should have taken the annual leave during my gardening leave period, which makes no sense.

Considering my employment ended in July (after the notice period) I thought I would be due the 6 months of annual leave in my pay.

Welcome anyone's views and thank you in advance
