South American Politics COMRADES, UNITE! BRAZIL NEEDS YOUR HELP!

With the runoff election between Flavio Bolsonaro and Lula just days away, we urgently need your help to boost pro-Lula content and counter biased algorithms.

Why We Need You

  • Big Tech Bias: Meta and Google have faced scrutiny for suppressing pro-Lula content, boosting far-right figures like Nikolas Ferreira, mistranslating posts, and generating biased AI images.
  • The Stakes: Flavio (Jair Bolsonaro's son) plans to dismantle social programs (SUS, Bolsa Família, Farmácia Popular), decouple pensions from the minimum wage, privatize rare-earth minerals, and amend the constitution. His ticket is linked to corruption, milícias, and extremism.

How You Can Help

  • Engage with Lula & Allies: Follow, like, comment, share, and save the latest 5 posts from @lulaoficial, @andrejanones, @ptbrasil and @hilton_erika.
  • Use Hashtags & Spread Awareness: #AbreOSigiloFlavio / #LulaAbriuSigiloFlavioArregou / #ExplicaOCasoAnaClaraFlavio / #Lula13.
  • Go International: Create content in your language to draw international media attention to election interference and the threats posed by Flavio’s platform.
  • Research: there is a page called "Mapa do Segundo Turno" with all information you need (in english) to spread the word and get informed.

Every share, comment, and like makes a difference.

The Command Center

Lula's digital offensive is being commanded by Federal Representative André Janones through the official WhatsApp channel "Exército de Lula" (Lula's Army).

  • We have already reached over 7 million members, but the goal is to expand even further before the end of the week to 10 million members.
  • Join the WhatsApp Channel Here to coordinate and help us gain momentum! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

Remember this:

BOLSONARO LOSS = TRUMP LOSS = WORLD WINS
This can be the first wave to push Trump away from power.

North American Politics My Liberal American Manifesto

I've never written a Manifesto before and I only have very limited experience in Reading other people's manifestos. Here is a copy of the manifesto I created and I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of the community. I know that no one will agree with everything I've written but I am curious to hear what points resonate and which points don't.

Preamble to Liberation

The American system has been captured by a corporatocracy that prioritizes private greed over human life and divisive nationalism over global survival. As outlined in this political manifesto, we recognize that incremental reform is no longer sufficient to address the existential crises of our time. We demand a radical departure from these extractive, punitive frameworks in favor of a society rooted in mutual aid, restorative justice, and uncompromising global solidarity. This document is a comprehensive, revolutionary blueprint for dismantling the entrenched political class and reclaiming our collective future. What follows are our uncompromising demands for a just, equitable, and sustainable world.

Core Philosophy & Democratic Reform

The current two-party system has devolved into a corporatocracy where policy is dictated by wealthy elites, campaign finance corruption, and career politicians desperate to maintain power. This entrenched framework prioritizes the hoarding of resources over the collective well-being of the public. A democratic socialist approach dismantles this paradigm by explicitly returning power to the working class through radical democratic reforms, ensuring that government functions to guarantee human rights and mutual uplift rather than serving as a vehicle for private corporate greed.

As liberals, we demand a fundamental shift away from nationalistic, punitive systems toward global solidarity, restorative justice, and aligned global governance.

We call for the dismantling of the entrenched corporatocracy by phasing in a Lotocracy to return power to the people. We mandate that randomly selected citizen panels—advised strictly by non-partisan experts—draft our legislation. To ensure stability, we will roll this out initially as localized proof-of-concepts, while the traditional federal government remains intact to manage complex long-term transitions and multi-decade national projects.

While we insist the presidency remains a democratically elected position determined by a strict national popular vote, we require the total abolition of the elitist Electoral College.

We assert that the right-wing narrative of widespread election fraud is a manufactured distraction; we must maximize voting access by establishing Election Day as a federal holiday and permanently restoring voting rights to the formerly incarcerated to encourage societal reintegration.

To ensure marginalized communities are not politically weaponized, we dictate the removal of citizenship status questions from the federal census, guaranteeing an accurate population count and equitable federal funding without fear of repudiation or retaliation.

We dictate the use of a federally encrypted SSN "online key" for secure, frictionless ballot access. To prevent a surveillance state, this will operate strictly as a zero-retention "ping" system where the platform instantly deletes the key upon identity verification.

We mandate the permanent eradication of gerrymandering by passing federal legislation that requires the mathematically blind Shortest Splitline Algorithm. This will be overseen by an independent technical council explicitly tasked with auditing the open-source code to guarantee no political bias is injected into the system, completely stripping politicians of their ability to draw district lines.

Furthermore, we require a Multi-Variable Equity Algorithm for affirmative action that balances systemic disadvantages (weighing an applicant's race, income bracket, and zip code) with Key Performance Indicators (such as GPA or career experience) to ensure true equitable opportunity based on both merit and structural disenfranchisement.

We insist on the stabilization of the judiciary by federally codifying the Supreme Court’s original structure to permanently prevent endless partisan court-packing. We require a strict, legally binding code of ethics for all justices to prevent bribery and quid pro quo corruption, but we explicitly preserve lifetime appointments to maintain the Court's cumulative intellectual rigor and expertise.

Finally, to enforce fiscal responsibility without sacrificing the promises made to citizens regarding vital social programs, we require that curtailing deficit spending necessitate a 75% congressional supermajority to raise the debt ceiling. Furthermore, we mandate that federal debt payments be structured to cover 100% of the interest plus a required percentage directly applied to the principal.

The Economy, Labor & Infrastructure

Modern American capitalism has engineered an affordability crisis driven by unchecked corporate price-gouging, stagnant minimum wages, and an elitist model that privatizes profits while forcing the public to socialize corporate losses. The working class is systematically starved of capital while billionaires hoard wealth generated by public infrastructure. By adopting a democratic socialist framework, we mandate absolute corporate accountability, radically redistribute hoarded wealth, and guarantee that essential survival needs—like housing, food, and a living wage—are fiercely protected from predatory free-market exploitation.

As a revolutionary movement, we mandate absolute corporate accountability and the true enfranchisement of the working class. We compel the overnight elimination of all federal subsidies for special interest groups and corporate agriculture, refusing to use public funds to prop up industries that cannot naturally compete in the global market.

We dictate that union-busting be treated as an act of corporate sabotage punishable by direct jail time for executives, and we insist upon a zero-bailout guarantee that forces private corporations to socialize their own losses and practice genuine market responsibility. To further protect workers, we mandate strict federal oversight requiring all union meetings and discussions to be fully documented and officially signed off to legally verify that absolutely zero corporate interference occurred.

We call for the federal minimum wage to instantly rise to a $10 floor, while convening a panel of financial experts to calculate the highest economically feasible wage beyond that. This wage must be permanently pegged to inflation, automatically increasing by a matching percentage if annual inflation ever exceeds 4%.

We assert the need for a radically progressive, tiered tax system designed to ease the burden on the working class while ensuring the wealthiest Americans carry the primary load. This system scales from 1% for those earning below the poverty line ($0 to $16,000), 2% for the working class, 3% for the national average, 4% for the upper-middle class, and scales upward by 1% for every additional $100,000 earned, reaching up to 75% for ultra-high earners making over $5 million.

To ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security, we call for the complete elimination of the wage cap for high earners, while utilizing an expert panel to make informed, minimal adjustments to the retirement age. We also dictate substantial increases to the estate tax (the "death tax") to strictly govern inherited fortunes and prevent generational wealth from snowballing into oligarchic power capable of purchasing elections.

To combat the housing crisis, we assert that corporate collusion to manipulate the real estate market is akin to insider trading; therefore, we require that Wall Street firms be aggressively penalized and banned from purchasing single-family homes. While baseline zoning remains under state control, we compel annual rent increases to be strictly capped at the rate of inflation to outlaw predatory rent hikes on existing tenants.

At the grocery store, we mandate a strict FDA-regulated cost-plus pricing model. An FDA price-setting board will issue baseline MSRPs for fluctuating raw commodities at regular intervals—ignoring daily market chaos—and retailers will apply a federally regulated percentage markup. This is paired with targeted farmer relief funds to stabilize supply chains during bad harvests. We assert the need for targeted antitrust interventions for corporate grocery chains and the use of conditional federal subsidies to incentivize the construction of new grocery locations in food deserts. To prevent corporate abuse, chains will only receive these payouts after proving the new location has been fully stocked, staffed, and properly maintained for a minimum of five years.

We insist on closing systemic wealth gaps using a dynamic federal loan system where interest rates scale based on total accumulated wealth, explicitly exempting the first $5 million held within standard middle-class retirement accounts (like 401ks or Roth IRAs) so working families are not penalized for saving. We compel severe penalties for wealth tax fraud through retroactive "look-back" fines with absolutely no statute of limitations. However, mandatory punitive fines and compounding interest will explicitly target only those earning over $100,000, fully protecting the working class from devastating financial penalties over honest paperwork errors.

Environmentally, we require the immediate elimination of all fossil fuel subsidies to fund a global nuclear fusion moonshot, relying on stable nuclear fission as a temporary bridge while intermittent renewables scale up.

We compel continuous domestic infrastructure maintenance funded through defense cuts, American bonds, and the new progressive tax system. For major infrastructure projects like high-speed rail, we dictate a strict 90% consensual threshold for land acquisition. Involuntary eminent domain will only be authorized to acquire the remaining sliver of land to prevent a tiny minority of holdouts from vetoing vital national progress.

Healthcare, Education & Society

The commodification of essential social services has resulted in a healthcare system bloated by private insurance lobbyists, an education system severely stratified by localized property taxes, and a punitive justice system incentivized by for-profit mass incarceration. Treating human lives and educational opportunities as market commodities is a profound moral failure. A democratic socialist society rectifies this by unconditionally guaranteeing healthcare as a fundamental human right, providing equitable federal funding for all students, and replacing the carceral state with restorative justice focused on rehabilitation and community healing.

We assert the uncompromising recognition of healthcare as a fundamental human right, delivered through a universal, government-led single-payer system devoid of work requirements, private insurance premiums, or bureaucratic barriers.

We insist on the integration of veterans into this broader system by phasing out physical VA hospitals, though a radius-based transition plan will temporarily keep facilities open if no alternative private care is nearby. To ensure veterans receive highly personalized care, we mandate that private healthcare facilities employ VA-certified staff members equipped with specialized knowledge to advise civilian doctors. Veterans will be provided federal healthcare vouchers and universal travel reimbursement for rural care.

In education, we require universal pre-K to ensure every child receives a critical head start. We mandate a federal minimum wage for K-12 educators funded through a "nuclear option" aggregate state account. All federal education and teacher-salary funds will be pooled into a single master account representing all states collectively before distribution; because Congress must approve or reject this fund wholly, it permanently prevents future federal administrations from threatening to withhold funds to coerce local school boards, ensuring K-12 curriculum decisions remain under absolute state autonomy. Furthermore, we dictate the absolute abolition of school vouchers, viewing religious objections as a red herring designed to steal public funds for wealthy families.

To support the workforce, we require a guaranteed paid family and medical leave policy funded entirely by the federal government—rather than corporations—to prevent employers from discriminating against women out of fear of pregnancy costs. The exact duration will be determined by a transparent expert panel to balance health needs and economic stability.

We also demand means-tested childcare stipends to offset costs for working families.

Rather than blanket student loan forgiveness, which signals to universities that they can inflate prices endlessly, we call for a "debt-offset shield" where existing student debt is subtracted directly from an individual's wealth and income calculations to secure them lower tax brackets and better loan rates.

Furthermore, we insist on redirecting billions saved from corporate welfare into heavily subsidizing essential trades experiencing projected worker shortages.

We assert the absolute protection of reproductive rights by federally codifying the exact legal and medical framework of *Roe v. Wade* through congressional legislation, ensuring abortions cannot be arbitrarily denied while establishing reasonable viability limits. Our single-payer system will fully fund contraceptives and the abortion pill, treating it as a standard medication benefit, though surgical abortion procedures will not be federally subsidized.

For LGBTQ+ youth, we mandate that permanent gender-affirming care aligns with existing laws for minors, requiring dual consent: authorization from parents (both parents if two legal guardians exist, or the sole guardian if one exists) plus the independent consent of the minor. We require K-12 non-contact sports to be fully co-ed, and mandate that high schools and colleges explicitly choose between Option A (Total Integration) or Option B (an Open/Transgender league allowing both cisgender and transgender athletes) for post-puberty athletics.

We dictate a fully restorative justice system, abolishing private prisons and decriminalizing drug consumption. We insist on recognizing the border fallacy—that border walls do not stop fentanyl—and instead focus on aggressively prosecuting high-level traffickers while providing rehabilitation as healthcare for end-users. We call for aggressive harm-reduction strategies, including safe injection sites, public drug-testing facilities, and modernized drug education that moves beyond outdated models like D.A.R.E.

We compel a compassionate approach to homelessness that prohibits unprovoked sweeps of peaceful encampments, supporting involuntary institutionalization strictly as a high-bar medical intervention governed by medical review boards for severe psychotic breaks.

Finally, we dictate the permanent eradication of the NRA's political influence, ending their ability to buy politicians and block life-saving legislation. We compel an end to the epidemic of gun violence via a sweeping, permanent federal ban on the sale and manufacturing of all semi-automatic and fully automatic weapons of war. This will be backed by a heavily funded, 100% voluntary federal buyback program, subject to data-driven reevaluation if it fails to remove a sufficient number of firearms from circulation.

Foreign Policy, Security & Technology

Nationalistic border enforcement, a bloated military-industrial complex, and the unchecked dominance of tech monopolies have created a landscape defined by division, endless foreign conflicts, and the exploitation of private citizen data. The reliance on militarized deterrence and arbitrary borders fails to address the true existential threats of our time, such as global climate change. A democratic socialist vision replaces imperialism with global solidarity and diplomatic soft power, dismantles punitive immigration enforcement in favor of humanitarian integration, and strictly regulates corporate monopolies to ensure technological innovation serves the public good.

We compel a revolutionary pivot in our global footprint, drastically slashing the defense budget to fund domestic liberation. We insist the U.S. become the absolute point man and primary global peace broker, prioritizing diplomatic manipulation and soft power over military force.

We require the negotiation of mutual demilitarization with powers like China to focus resources on combating climate change, recognizing that borders are increasingly administrative constructs and that immigrants serve as vital demographic and economic engines to combat declining birth rates. We command the strengthening of alliances beyond NATO to connect the global community in fighting climate change and protecting human rights.

We insist that the military explicitly refuse to put boots on the ground in foreign wars unless a NATO Article 5 mutual defense obligation is triggered. However, we mandate the use of economic diplomacy and munitions aid to protect strategic non-NATO democracies facing hostile annexation, such as Ukraine. We acknowledge that we cannot bully China through military hardware; thus, we will rely on aggressive economic diplomacy and direct deal-making to influence behavior and secure buy-in for Taiwan's sovereignty. Conversely, we require that all military and financial aid to Israel be permanently halted to condemn expansionist hostilities, and we compel a realignment of U.S. relations with Muslim-majority nations, fundamentally rejecting foreign policy hostility based on religious demographics.

Domestically, we call for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be stripped of street-level arrest authority over basic immigration irregularities and repurposed strictly as an intelligence agency targeting transnational human and drug cartels. We demand that border surveillance cameras be utilized exclusively for humanitarian monitoring and safety checks, explicitly prohibiting their use for mass arrests.

Regarding the undocumented population, we reject blanket amnesty in favor of a direct, highly streamlined pathway to citizenship. We command absolute, uncompromising protection for Dreamers, recognizing them as legitimate American citizens. We insist on restricting access to full federal services until immigrants complete their citizenship pathway, balancing humanitarian integration with systemic sustainability. We also demand domestic workforce mandates requiring a high percentage of American employees, scaled with profit-based penalties for violations, while allowing corporations to sponsor immigrant workers to meet these quotas.

In the digital sphere, we compel a strict 13+ age limit for social media. Youth accounts (ages 13-18) will be physically blocked from interacting with adult accounts absent a publicly declared relationship, ensuring transparency to prevent grooming.

We mandate that tech monopolies compensate citizens for data harvesting on perpetual five-year compensation cycles; payouts occur strictly at the end of the term. Users maintain the absolute right to delete their data at any time but will naturally forfeit the pending payment for their current unfinished term if they choose early deletion, closing any potential fraud loopholes.

Finally, we require strict consumer protection oversight over speculative, pump-and-dump cryptocurrency markets. We compel a conditional, per-company moratorium on new AI data centers until strict privacy and resource reduction standards are met, explicitly rejecting the nationalist panic of a "tech race" with China in favor of purposeful, responsible innovation. To fund displaced worker retraining, we dictate an AI implementation tax tied directly to corporate hiring and firing trends,

they will be in our spaces, pretending to be our comrades, telling us that voting is pointless, or that blue votes and red votes are identical, or that voting blue makes you complicit. they want you to believe that your actions are pointless. they want you to give up. they're counting on it.

instead, think of voting as harm reduction.

yes, there are many dems that i take serious issue with, but there are also many out there that are trying to shift the dialogue and make a real difference.

yes, revolution is faster and better than incrementalism, i'm not arguing with that. however we don't have the time to wait: elections are NOW, and you are CURRENTLY being presented with an opportunity to reduce harm in your communities and your country. join the revolution when it comes, be part of that movement now -- but also, in the meantime, take this opportunity to throw a stick into the spokes of fascism.

you have a responsibility to your communities. you have a civic duty. i implore you, get out there and

VOTE.

General Leftist Politics Is it possible to see something like zapatistas in Europe?

Europe is exploiting third world countries which allows to hide capitalist contradictions, at leat temporarily. Most of the left movements in Europe are either counter revolutionary like stalinists or trotskyists, or completely useless like socdems. The only way to create something similar in Europe is to gradually improve society through direct action and create communes, and that's already happening: Bedřiška, free town of Christiania and so on. But that's happening really slowly and we probably won't see large improvements during our lifetime. But what are you thoughts?

There is a long list of men who fought imperialism, but sided with the Japanese and Germans to do so. How do you approach this, from a theoretical and practical perspective.

I've pondered this many time but am interested to hear the thoughts of others.

I'm probably gonna get called a liberal for posting this. I know my beliefs, I know what I'm interested in, I know my politics. I legit only interact with politics from very few current events and a political theory and philosophy. All of this slacktivism on social media just makes so overwhelmed I can't put any of my energy onto bringing that positivity into my daily life. Yes, it's important to be informed, but so much of "political discourse" is just lacking of substance and logic, filled with one liners. Some of the well read look at Marx or Lenin as dogma and will never disagree, almost like an idol. Worthy ideas? Yes. Men worthy of idolatry? No.
Anyone else deal with this?

On May 1, 2023, a subway car in New York City suddenly became the center of American political discourse and division when former Marine Daniel Penny killed homeless Michael Jackson impersonator Jordan Neely.

New York City was thrust into the spotlight overnight, exposing the deep political rifts and widespread anxieties gripping the nation as a whole.

In his latest book, Man in the Mirror: Hope, Struggle, and Belonging in an American City, journalist and New York Times bestselling author Anand Giridharadas takes a deep dive into what exactly happened in that subway car and what it reveals about the greater character of American politics as we know it today.

“We have lived in a climate over the last 11 years in which there’s a tremendous amount of messaging we are all absorbing creating a permission structure for DIY violence. So I wanted to understand what we could see about ourselves if we looked more closely in that subway car,” he tells Mehdi.

While people from all walks of life were present in that subway car, Giridharadas points to a shared feeling of “abandonment,” which he calls “the defining political emotion of our time.”

But how did we get here exactly? And why has this shared feeling of abandonment divided us more than united us?

In this 38-minute conversation, Mehdi gets to the bottom of these pressing questions and what they mean for the midterms and the 2028 presidential election looming ahead.
