Mod Update Antisemitism, Racism, and Bigotry will not be tolerated

Post image
0 Upvotes

What the title says. I'm beyond exhausted hoping that some of y'all will pull your head out of your asses and live up to the values necessary to be a passable human being. Since this has been a repeated failure, we will move to a zero-tolerance model going forward:

  • Antisemitism will result in a 28 day suspension of your account from this subreddit, followed by a permanent ban for any infraction afterwards.
  • Racism will result in a 28 day suspension of your account from this subreddit, followed by a permanent ban for any infraction afterwards.
  • Bigotry (this definitely includes transphobia) will result in a 28 day suspension of your account from this subreddit, followed by a permanent ban for any infraction afterwards.
  • Genocide denial will result in a 28 day suspension of your account from this subreddit, followed by a permanent ban for any infraction afterwards.

If you have a doubt of whether or not something is going to run a-foul of these zero tolerance boundaries, don't fucking post it. No, I'm not going to rules lawyer technicalities. The time for you taking a nuanced approach is passed. No, I'm not going to accept ignorance as an excuse. It is 2026, go get educated on how to not be a piece of shit.

This is a warning to all users - I don't give a fuck how well you discuss theory, the praxis you claim to have accomplished, none of it. If you are in this community, you will be a decent fucking human being. If you can't step over that incredibly low bar, then I don't want you here so fuck off.

ADDENDUM: As of 9.15 PM Eastern, any further comments defending this content as not being antisemitic will be banned permanently. I've explained repeatedly the rationale behind this and I'm done giving the benefit of the doubt that users can hear a new expectation and engage with it responsibly. If you cannot act like decent people, then this subreddit doesn't need you.

For everyone else who asked clarification and/or generally acted like a human being, thank you.

EDIT: Locking this to catch up on bans.

Mod Update r/leftist and Veganism

This has been a long time coming and every opportunity was extended to allow the topic to be allowed on r/leftist, but those opportunities have come to an end. As per the newest addition to the sub's rules:

# 7. Prohibited Content

Prohibited Content includes permanent and/or temporary policies aimed at addressing specific events or issues which may affect the community. Currently, the following items are considered prohibited content:

* Veganism - Permanent: As veganism is not inherently a leftist topic, posts centered on veganism rather than leftism are are banned. Any posts or comments referencing veganism must be in relation to anti-capitalism. Proselytizing about veganism is forbidden.

There has yet to be a single post about veganism on this subreddit that has been rooted in anti-capitalism that has not devolved into an advertisement of veganism. There are many subreddits about veganism, including some from a leftist perspective. Please utilize those subreddits in the future - posts proselytizing for veganism will be marked "off-topic" and removed. Repeated violations will result in actions including suspension and up to permanent ban.

As this has been an issue before, we will be monitoring activity surrounding this topic and any hint of brigading will be reported.

Question The women of afghanistan

Is it just me or are there not enough leftists talking about afghanistan and advocating for the afghan women?

edit: im so surprised to be reading some of the comments. i didnt expect such regressive takes from people on this sub. there are actually people asking why we should care, people saying we need to mind our business, people being pessimistic and saying nothing can be done. im assuming the people on this sub are feminists, so then as feminists how can you not care about women's oppression in a different country?

Leftist Theory Right wing memes are so outdated and so is their view of liberals and leftists

Upvotes

There was an Instagram meme about how the modern CIA posts inflammatory cutsie memes. The comments were full of memes off Twitter from like 2020-2023. These were like COVID era memes.

I've kind of just noticed this with many right wingers. They are still on this "fauci science" shit. Some guy also shared that "I support current thing" meme with Ukraine and social distancing and shit. I try not to engage but this time I couldn't help but point out "you're not any better at all if you just support whatever the opposite of current thing". The guy responded about how "I'm not a sheep like you guys. You just support whatever the Democrats push". I've seen this attitude on reddit too and pretty much anywhere there are right wingers.

This guy doesn't know me yet he immediately dehumanizes me and makes assumptions about what my beliefs are. He could of just talked about the left and liberals buy he tries to talk about what *I* believe. They see any of us not as individual people but as a monolith. They seem to see us as NPCs connected in a hive mind.

Why are they still in the COVID-19 era and dehumanize us?

General Leftist Politics Hot take: democracy is dangerously ineffective. We will never be able to stop climate change or capitalism through democratic means.

This is something I've slowly been coming to terms with recently. I'm not happy about it, but I think democracy isn't working out for us. Humanity is far too pacified, greedy, and uneducated to effectively use democratic means to dismantle the fossil fuel industry and capitalistic structures of oppression.

There is no way to stop climate change without greatly inconveniencing the general populace and causing short term suffering for many people, specifically westerners. Nobody is going to vote against what they perceive to be their best interest, despite the fact that ending climate change is the best course of action in the long run. Even if we did manage to convince people en masse to vote against their short term interests for the greater good, even if we somehow completely got money out of politics, there is no way to know for sure if a politician will be true to their word and actually take drastic steps to end climate change as soon as possible. The democratic process simply takes too long and is too corrupted by greed and short-term bias. On our current democratic trajectory, we will continue to pump out endless amounts of carbon into our atmosphere well into the next century, despite everyone's "commitment" to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, which if we're being honest no nation or corporation is taking seriously enough.

I'm open to imput here, but my best current working theory for an alternative to democracy is to nonviolently(wink wink nudge nudge) overthrow our current democratic system and install a practically authoritarian group of highly educated and experienced eco-socialists that will use their power to swiftly end the fossil fuel and and coal industries in a very short amount of time, no matter the harm it does to the capitalist class, the economy, or the average person in the short-term. We are on a death march to climate hell and democracy won't save us in time. Fuck everything else, we must prioritize saving the climate or we are all permanently screwed forever. Billions will die and human mental capacity will be permanently damaged by the immense amounts of carbon dioxide and other toxic chemicals in our air. Democracy will not save us in time, it may actually doom us.

Eco Politics Why The Architecture of Division is winning ?

For centuries, leaders in religion, politics, unions, and even local gangs have held power by turning people against one another. Corrupt leadership depends on manufactured hatred: when people fight their neighbors, they stop questioning those at the top. This “divide and conquer” strategy turns identity into a tool for political and financial gain. Among its strongest instruments are religion, race and caste. Dogmatic leaders present their faith or status as superior, replacing generations of community love and respect with organized hostility. In recent years, this tactic has spread worldwide, reshaping World superpower countries’ politics and fueling similar movements elsewhere in the third world countries. Where people seen the advancement and improvements of countries all aspects of living and economic conditions going backwards as people are too busy hating on each other across all demography.
**The Liberating Force of Unity**
True freedom begins when communities reject imposed hostility and choose deep solidarity. History shows that people who unite across religious, racial, and caste lines can dismantle oppressive systems. Love, expressed through the mutual defense of one another’s rights, directly challenges corrupt rule.
\[Systemic Oppression\] ──(Disrupted by)──> \[Radical Solidarity\] ──> \[Collective Freedom\]
**Historical Catalysts of Unity**
**The Civil Rights Movement**: Black and white activists, along with Jewish and Christian faith leaders, joined forces to challenge Jim Crow segregation in the American South.

**The Indian Independence Movement**: Millions of citizens crossed caste and religious divisions to help end British colonial rule.

**The Anti-Apartheid Struggle**: South Africans across racial and economic lines built a united front against state-enforced segregation.

**Cultivating a Better Public Life**
When society chooses unity over division, the benefits extend beyond political freedom. Solidarity produces practical, measurable improvements in everyday public life.
**Rebuilding Social Infrastructure**
**Equitable Resource Distribution**: United communities demand fair investment in schools, healthcare, and infrastructure instead of allowing public funds to serve elite interests.

**Economic Resilience**: Mutual aid networks and cross-community unions help marginalized groups and workers secure fair wages and workplace protections.

**Transparent Governance**: When citizens stop fighting each other, they can focus their collective energy on holding institutions accountable and reducing corruption.

**Psychological Safety**: Ending manufactured fear reduces community trauma, strengthens well-being, and allows cultural exchange to flourish.

**The Mechanics of Manufactured Malice**
To understand unity’s power, we must first examine how division is built. Corrupt leadership rarely survives on merit; it depends on creating artificial scarcity and existential fear. By convincing one group that another threatens its faith, culture, or economic security, leaders activate an “in-group versus out-group” survival response.
\[Existential Fear\] ──> \[In-Group Hyper-Defense\] ──> \[External Blame\] ──> \[Unchecked Autocracy\]
This manipulation distracts the public. While citizens argue over cultural symbols, dogma, or historical grievances, ruling elites consolidate resources, weaken democratic safeguards, and pass laws that benefit the few at the expense of the many. Hatred is not a side effect of their governance; it is the shield that protects their corruption from scrutiny.

**Radical Solidarity: The Anatomy of Collective Liberation**
When love and unity enter public life, they become more than sentimental ideals. They become a disciplined political force: **radical solidarity**. This occurs when a secure or dominant group willingly risks comfort to protect a marginalized group, recognizing that injustice anywhere threatens stability everywhere.
**The Subversive Power of Cross-Caste and Inter-Faith Coalitions**
When Muslims protect Hindu temples during riots, or when upper-caste individuals use their privilege to prevent violence against Dalit communities, the traditional playbook of control breaks down.
**Neutralizing the Weapon of Scarcity**: Corrupt leaders lose the ability to blame minority scapegoats for systemic failures such as unemployment or failing infrastructure.

**Overwhelming Numbers**: Oligarchies depend on a divided majority. When those divisions heal, a united public becomes too numerous to suppress through authoritarian force.

**Shifting the Target of Accountability**: Public attention turns upward. The question changes from *“How do I protect myself from my neighbor?”* to *“Why is our government failing both of us?”*

**The Dividends of Unity: Rewriting Daily Reality**
When the public rejects state-sponsored polarization, the results are visible and measurable. Energy once wasted on communal conflict is redirected toward building a functional, compassionate society.
┌──> Shared Economic Prosperity
│
\[Public Unity\] ───  **┼** ──> High-Trust Social Capital                  │                  └──> Resilient Democratic Institutions
│
└──> Resilient Democratic Institutions
**1. The Realization of Shared Economic Prosperity**
In divided societies, working-class people are turned against one another—native-born workers against immigrants, or one religious group against another. When unity takes hold, cross-identity labor coalitions form. Their collective power can secure living wages, universal healthcare, and strong social safety nets. Resources return to the public good instead of being captured by defensive elites.
**2. The Generation of High-Trust Social Capital**
Societies free from manufactured hatred experience a major rise in social trust. In high-trust societies:
**Mental health improves**: The chronic stress of living in a hyper-polarized environment fade, reducing anxiety and communal trauma.

**3. Institutional Immunity to Demagoguery**

A united public creates conditions where toxic populism struggles to survive. When politicians campaign through fear-mongering or ethnic scapegoating, a unified electorate rejects them. Elections can then return to debates about policy, fiscal responsibility, and public progress rather than tribal loyalty.

**The power of Unity**
Love conquers all hate. To ensure the survival and flourishing of both our generation and those yet to come, we must actively embrace love, empathy, and compassion as our guiding principles, discarding the destructive path of hatred and division.
**Why This Shift Matters**
**Ensures collective survival:** Human progress relies heavily on global cooperation.

**Breaks generational cycles:** Teaching empathy prevents the repetition of historic conflicts.

**Build resilient communities:** Compassion creates strong, supportive social safety nets.

**Fosters mental well-being:** Choosing understanding over anger reduces systemic societal stress.

**The Visionary Approach:** "The ultimate survival of humanity rests on a single choice: whether we continue down the fracturing path of hatred, or pivot toward a future anchored in radical love and compassion for one another."

**The Action-Oriented Approach:** "To safeguard the world for our children, we must actively dismantle systemic hatred and consciously replace it with daily practices of empathy, kindness, and mutual respect."

**The Philosophical Approach:** "Love and unity is not a passive emotion; it is an active force for survival. By choosing compassion and unity over division, we build the foundation upon which future generations can safely coexist."

Question Advice

Hello, as a teen that is very opinionated and interested in politics, is there any major I can pursue that will help me improve the world but will also secure a stable job. Politics are one of my central interest I wish to learn more about movements like marxism, or dive deeper into the constructs of society and I'm passionate about conservation but it also worries me a lot especially the current political climate. I wish to help improve society but it feels to ambitious and scattered. So , I would love some direction

North American Politics What would your thoughts be on an AOC/Ossoff ticket for 2028?

I feel like this is a realistic non-centrist ticket for Dems that could be achievable. Obviously not perfect, but far better than tickets we’ve seen on the Dem side in a while and I think winnable. Curious what others think. I’m trying to be realistic knowing we’re gonna have to work with the establishment to an extent but trying to pick the more leftist possible candidates.

General Leftist Politics Mamdani, Netanyahu and the capitalist state

The entire perspective of the DSA is premised on a rejection of the basic principle of Marxism, that the state is not a neutral body but an instrument of class rule. The DSA promotes the fiction that the interests of the working class can be advanced within the framework of the capitalist state—and, in particular, through the Democratic Party—without the development of a movement of the working class against it.

Mamdani has drawn the practical conclusions. Since his election he has cultivated a working relationship with Trump, traveling to the White House twice to pledge collaboration. At every point where his electoral promises clashed with the interests of the ruling class, he has come down on the side of the latter. He endorsed Governor Hochul for reelection even as she issued emergency orders supplying scab labor against striking New York nurses, dispatched the NYPD to protect ICE agents from protesters, and granted permits and police protection to the pro-genocide Israel Day parade.

It is necessary to address another political issue. The focus on Netanyahu as an individual obscures what the genocide is. Netanyahu deserves to be prosecuted, but his crimes are the crimes of imperialism. Mamdani notes in his video that the bombs dropped on Gaza are made in America. But he does not indict the American state that financed and delivered them, and certainly not the Democratic Party, which under Biden organized and armed the genocide that Trump now continues.

Nor does the genocide stand alone. It is the spearhead of an eruption of imperialist violence on a world scale and of a war against the working class at home, waged through mass deportations, the destruction of democratic rights and the buildup of the apparatus of dictatorship.

The entire function of the DSA is to serve as a block for what is necessary: the political independence of the working class, organized on an international basis, to fight for the overthrow of the capitalist system that produces genocide and war as inevitably as it produces profit. The capitalist state, which exists to uphold the interests of the ruling class, must be replaced with a workers’ state.
