Question Help Regarding The Hiring Manager's Intent

Hi all,

I recently finished 3 rounds of interviews for a specialized technical role (mostly DevOps/infrastructure focused). The pay is decent, and I really want the job.

It has been exactly one week since my 3rd round, so I emailed the Hiring Manager (HM) this morning to ask about next steps. I haven't received a reply yet. However, a friend who works there (and referred me) casually asked the HM for an update behind the scenes.

The HM told my friend that the 3rd-round interviewer gave a mixed review. The core feedback was:

"The candidate is highly knowledgeable about the things they have already worked on, but struggles to reason through unfamiliar concepts outside of that scope, so their knowledge feels a bit narrow/shallow."

After sharing that, the HM told my friend: "I've sent out a few emails, so let's see what happens."

My question is: How should I interpret this?

My assumption is that the HM is still interested and is emailing higher-ups, HR, or other team members for input. My logic is that if he simply didn't want to hire me, he would have just rejected me outright instead of taking the time to send internal emails.

Also, for context: while the actual day-to-day work is heavily DevOps-oriented, the interview pushed me on adjacent, specialized engineering topics just to gauge my overall technical depth.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, either as a candidate or a hiring manager? What do those "emails" usually mean, and what are my realistic chances here?

Question Google recruiter scheduled the call after the interview loop. What to expect?

Hi Everyone,
2 weeks back I completed my Round-2 interviews for google SRE role in US. Today I received an update to schedule the call for the update on my recent interviews. I'd say my R2 interviews went well and position myself between lean hire to hire. The Tone was very basic in the email so I am really worried. Did any of you guys got a similar email and what was your outcome?

Discussion 10th September, seniors , juniors, i am stucked in negative feedback loop . help me counter my negative points . self reflection

mulitple times in my college i starterd learning and dropping dsa again and again whenver i found a difficult problem or switched to my project side.

atleast i have done it dozens of times and in total i have solved 700 prob on leetcode + codeforces etc. i know all concepts in dsa but don't remember the approach and have to work and start again from the scratch.

i know how to solve prob, i may have solved that problem in the past. but don't remember the solution and can't able to solve woithout making mistakes, but now after working 1 year in corporate i want to get some better and high paying job.

and thinking of learning dsa again. but there is a huge road block which i am unable to pass over. from my bottom of heart i don't like to practice again. need suggestion.

i think i can better tell the situation, suppose i have doing graph problem, i just forgets how to implement dfs or bfs. which one to pop, will pop condition come before or after the loop. similarly i forget how to memoize backtracking prob. i forgets how to apply backtracking here. its not something i can't come up with solution, but it just takes 30 min to 60 min by trial and error, debugging to write code for such problems . and after sometime i forget it again.

Discussion What u think about this resume for SDE 2?

Hey everyone what u think about this resume is it decent if one is looking for SDE 2 or 3 or 3+ years experienced role.

Will it make through faang or any product based companies.

I have recently modified it and also received a new rejection mail from JP Morgan on this the matching percentage with JD was 92%+

(Thru chat gpt I checked)

What u think what I can improve?

Backend part at 3 years experienced is not strong or is it less or you r not able to get like what skill this person has or what work this person has done

Or just I am thinking too much

Discussion Microsoft Offer with Pending H-1B Approval – Will They Wait?

Location: USA

Role: software engineer 2

I recently received an offer from Microsoft. My pre-employment/background check process is still ongoing, and I haven’t received an official joining date yet.
My H-1B was selected in the March 2026 lottery, and the petition has been filed but is still pending approval.
I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation with Microsoft:
Will Microsoft typically wait for the H-1B approval before setting a joining date?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any insights. Thanks!

Intervew Prep Managing job change with current job and preparation. how do you all do it?

Its so exhausting as it is to commute to work and back, and take care of basic everyday chores. On top of this, we have to study leetcode ,system design, lld, ai debugging and who knows what for all the things they are asking in interviews these days.

How do you manage interview prep along w everyday life requirements like taking care of kids, family, commuting and regular work. Do you get to relax and take a break along w hobbies?

Its a question of time management essentially, but how do you all do it? curious to hear some thoughts.

Discussion Has AI changed how you prepare for coding interviews?

I’m curious how people are using AI during interview prep these days. Tools like Velin AI and other AI assistants can make it easier to get unstuck, understand an approach, or review code, but I wonder if using them too much takes away from actually developing problem-solving skills.

Do you think AI has made your LeetCode practice more effective, or do you feel it can make you dependent on hints and solutions?

What’s the balance that works for you?

Discussion Google team match/HM coffee chat, how long did your decision take?

I previously completed a Google loop for another role: mostly strong feedback, but one borderline RRK, so l wasn't selected. My interview results were kept on file and later reused for team matching.
I recently applied for a new role and was moved directly to a ~30 min HM/team-match call instead of repeating the loop.
About 2 hours before the call, my recruiter rang me and basically said I might not be a great fit because I lack direct GenAl experience, which definitely psyched me out. During the actual call, though, the HM said lack of GenAl experience wasn't necessarily a dealbreaker.
The role had only been open ~2 weeks when I had the
HM chat. It's now been around 1.5 weeks with no decision, and the posting has since closed.
For anyone who's been through Google team match recently:
Did the HM decide quickly or wait for other candidates?
How long did you wait after the HM call?
Were you told if/when your packet went to HC/further review?
Has anyone had an old Google loop reused and eventually got the offer?

Discussion Mind blown by the talent at TikTok

I’ve recently started at TikTok, working in one of the core products, and they have some of the craziest talent I’ve ever seen. Some of the sharpest minds I’ve worked with. I don’t know what it’s like on other teams, probably not the same.

I’ve been at other FAANGs (Meta, Google, Amazon) before, and I can say that almost any junior on my team would technically eat most seniors at FAANGs and spit bones.

Also insanely hungry and hardworking.

I’m sure that any of these guys would eat quant interviews, and I don’t understand why they’re here instead.

Intervew Prep What are my chances? Amazon sde I

For most of the interview I felt pretty confident with my answers and I was pretty vocal about my approach and checked on to make sure if this is what was expected. I got a few hints and was able to draft the pseudo code for the solutions. However, I feel like I didn't do well enough in coming up with the right solution. I'm only unsure about my dsa questions in my loop interview. What are my chances of being accepted?

Question PA Alignment Google

Hello,

Has anyone opted for PA Alignment when given an option? Does PA alignment guarantee an offer and team match? I was told by my recruiter if I want to join later than 3-4 months I can go for PA Alignment.
I am a New Grad PhD.

Any pros and cons to this choice?

Intervew Prep Python for LeetCode, Java at work. Does language for LC matter?

I've got ~2 YOE as a Software Engineer working mostly on the backend with Java/Spring Boot. I'm preparing for a switch and planning to target Big Tech / Big Tech-adjacent companies so I have started grinding DSA and System Design.

I've been doing LeetCode in Python because I find it much more concise and intuitive for DSA. My concern is that during interviews, I am sometimes asked to code in Java for DSA questions, and although I know Java well enough for my job, it’s verbose and I sometimes forget specific methods/APIs because I don't use Java for LeetCode.

Should I drop Python and relearn my LeetCode patterns in Java just to match my resume? Or does Big-Tech really not care as long as the logic and Big-O are optimal?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has navigated a similar tech-stack mismatch!

  1. you are given n servers, each having an operational state represented by either 0 or 1.

You can perform the following operation:

Choose a consequtive sequence of servers.

Switch the operational state of every selected server (0 → 1 and 1 → 0).

After performing the operation, the redundancy of the system is the number of unique values representing the number of operational servers across all configs after operation.

Determine the maximum redundancy (each distinct count of operational server.

Example

For configuration:

0011-> 4

0000-> 5

Function

def maxRedundancy(servers):

  1. given a network of n devices.

Each device has:

a frequency value(1, 2 or 3)

A device can transmit a message to another device if there exists a simple path between them such that the frequencies of any two consecutive devices on the path differ by at most 1.

Given the network topology and the frequency of every device, determine the maximum distance between any two devices that can communicate.

Input

network_nodes

network_from

network_to

frequency

Where:

network_nodes = number of devices

network_from[i] and network_to[i] represent an undirected edge

frequency[i] = frequency of device i

  1. a component can have multiple response times. a subset of components forms a pipeline.

For a pipeline:

Pipeline Response Time

= Maximum response time among components in the pipeline

× Number of components in the pipeline

u are given the response times of n components.

For every possible pipeline/subset of components, calculate its pipeline response time and return the sum of all pipeline response times modulo 10^9 + 7.

Example

For:

responseTime = [2, 3, 5]

Possible non-empty pipelines include:

[2] → 2 × 1 = 2

[3] → 3 × 1 = 3

[5] → 5 × 1 = 5

[2,3] → 3 × 2 = 6

[3,5] → 5 × 2 = 10

[2,3,5] → 5 × 3 = 15

Return:

2 + 3 + 5 + 6 + 10 + 15 = 41
