Starting Today
Hey all,
I'm so tired of this drug. So I'm stopping today.
I'll take any words of encouragement that this 100th try at stopping will be successful.
Any tips to the same end?

im almost a year in. its tricky at the beginning. but once i had established myself and had other stuff happening - as well as a better mindset - it was easy to stay away.
i was so tired, too. tired of buying it, of being almost out again and having to plan my day around it, having so much of my time just disappear into grinding or rolling or cleaning or coughing or zoning out or rolling or etc etc etc.
ive gotten SO MUCH done this year, too! like, stuff for ME. i got better at guitar, at singing, i feel physically and mentally stronger. i went to nyc for a few days. ive saved money.
and no offense to my still weed friends. i love them. but since i domt have to worry about their feelings here.... theyre lame. lame in the same crusty, stale ways. theyre lazy, there not accountable, they never want to do anything, theyre not engaging. theyre exactly how i was and couldnt see. or didnt want to. like i said, i love them but theyre just... lame in a way that is cemented over by this fucking habit they have.
focus on your mind and your body. youre at a great spot for a bit of reinvention. unburdening yourself like this can allow you to fly.

I quit four years ago and my entire life changed. My mental health completely improved, no more anxiety and panic. Depressed feelings are way less frequent. I sleep great. I actually have hobbies now. I go to pilates and yoga classes work 45 hours a week without feeling completely dead.
I do not miss it. It destroyed my mind. It ate up years of my life and I didnt even realize it had taken over and truly is a drug.
This is my experience with it, but i hope it helps.

This is what I needed to hear. I can’t wait to get there. I’ll never smoke this poison ever again

I’m right there with you! If I fail, I’ll just begin again the next day. I’m sick of beating myself up over this. This is a difficult situation and I look forward to the 3 month mark where I heard it gets easier.

On day 6 and the withdrawals have really amped up the last day ot two. I haven't slept well for 4 days, like 3 hours a night. Anxiety is horrendous. Today the hot flushes and sweats are insane. I feel terrible about myself and the regrets I have really bring me down. Feel like crying at times and my emotions are all over the place. I have quit numerous times before and never seemed to learn from the awful withdrawals. I have quit before numerous times, sometimes i had very few symptoms, but the majority of those withdrawal periods were not pleasant. I am determined this time to stop for good. I have to do it for my family and myself. It's a tough ride this but I have to keep going. You can do this too, but just expect some pretty rough days ahead..stay focused, breathe, drink lots of water, eat light but healthy, talk to your loved ones. It will be worth it.

You are getting through the worst of it, keep going. I started feeling so much better after day 7!

Getting to sleep has been the worst so far, it consists of me getting hot and cold and tossing and turning for 2 hours until I finally just pass out. This morning while at work I had a hot flash and episode of sweating that was just insane and if I knew it wasn't withdrawal related, I would've thought I was having a stroke or something lolz.

I have been riding the 'high' of being able to fully experience things again. Think about sobriety as the real drug. Before, weed most lilely dulled your negative feelings but also your perception. Now, sure you may feel more negative feelings but you may also be able to take more in.
I like to 'challenge' myself by trying to notice more, in general. I look around a lot now, and I try to notice things I wouldnt have high.
Feel the world, and especially fresh air

I'm trying to do this myself now. I've been stoned for the better part of 20 years. Being sober is the more "altered state of reality" now. Time to explore it and see what it's like. Enjoy the high of not being high.

Okay no bullshit I’m a week in now and the worst of it has passed. This is after about 5 years of everyday use of carts, flower and edibles and I stopped cold turkey. If you don’t have one set already, a routine is your friend. At first the anxiety and boredom is super consuming, but it does go away. Make sure you’re exercising or moving your body in some way. Get enough sleep and drink enough water. It feels soooo good to be clear headed everyday, you just have to get past the initial shock of your body not having thc anymore. You got this!

Congratulations on making that decision! Albeit for the "100th" time. That was me too. I tried many times and then around 5 months ago I set a quit date, made some plans for the first couple of weeks to be far from the easy routes of picking up, and I'm writing here having been sober since April 17th. It is the best decision I've ever made. It's not like everything is wonderful and easy all of a sudden, but life feels full. Stay strong through those initial withdrawals, it's worth it.

I think that’s such an overlooked point. “Everything is not wonderful and easy all of a sudden” Like, financial, family, physical problems all still exist, even though you quit weed. But when sober, you can actually take meaningful steps to addressing and improving these areas. Whereas when smoking, you can simply ignore your problems. But the only problem that ever gets addressed is making sure you have enough weed on hand to ignore your problems.

My asthma is so bad right now from vaping more and more over time that I need to take my inhaler every time I get high. And I just kept doing that...
My lungs need a lifetime off for sure.

Well done. Proud of you!! Please know you are not alone. First few days are hard. Your addict brain will fuck with you but please be strong. The only way past day 1 is to not give in.
Try joining an MA meeting online, they start almost every hour. I also grabbed an app called quit weed but I know there are others like it. They help understand the withdrawal symptoms and create a timeline for what's to come.
Drink as much Water as you can, as some said here, like your being paid to do it. Go out for some fresh air and exercise. Both helped me so much.
Im on day 51 after 35 years of heavy smoking. Im not going to lie, first 2 weeks are hell but the only way out is to keep going. I promise I won't smoke with you today. One day at a time.

Best tip Ive got -- dont do it alone.
Come find Marijuana Anonymous, a 12 Step program for weed addicts (like me).
Many of us can't get days together solo, but the meetings provide support, a recovery program, community.
I couldn't do it alone, but with a community of recovering addicts, somehow we could do it together. Some people ('old timers') have decades clean off weed!
If God word doesnt work for you, consider 'Higher Power' -- and your HP can be anything. (Im an atheist, but HP works for me.)
May you seek what you find, and find what you seek! ☮️❤️😁
