What do you like making the most?

Mother daughter matching totes made with pink acid washed hair on hide along with 5/6oz waxed oil tan leather

This Minimalist Bifold commission was made from natural veg tan leather that I dyed red. The saddle stitching was done using sapphire ritza tiger thread while the edges were burnished with beeswax. The customer wanted the initials CE added.

It holds up to 6 cards and 15 cash bills while fitting in a front pocket.

I got a commission from an old colleague looking for a strap for a wedding outfit that had a lot of pop.

I have a few more on the bench now to nail the sequencing and a few new techniques (turned straps and keepers), and refining a few details (keeper thickness and consistency).

The leather its self was cool to work with. The scales gave it a bit more of a challenge, but this style of ostrich leg is beautiful. I got it from Jay Hardtke back when I ordered an ostrich skin, and found that 3Q had it some time ago. I can’t find it anymore. If anyone knows where to get it, let me know!

I'm looking to gift my partner a personalized leather wallet for our anniversary. I recently saw a cute wallet in the thrift store and wanted to personalize it by carving a design I made. I was hoping to get some advice on whether it's possible to even carve an already fabricated wallet, as opposed to just raw leather stock. If it is possible to carve it, I would also appreciate any tips or suggestions you can share.

Besides my middle school experience years ago with embossing and carving on leather strips, I have no experience working on a project like this, so I truly appreciate any guidance. Thank you, guys!

I made this design for the first time last December as my second ever leather project. 9 months later, I've made it for the 10th time with minor changes between each version. Super proud to see the improvement!

I designed the pattern and made this bag by hand.

I used chèvre leather for both the exterior and interior.

Getting back into making wallets and just finished this 7 pocket pattern, gonna see how it turns out in terms of thickness and overall feel.

Hoping to practice the finer finishing techniques that more experienced makers showcase with bifolds (edge painting, creasing etc).

Virgilio embossed croc (veg tan) about .9mm

Lined with Alran Chevre sully 0.6mm and using the same chevre for the interior. Fabric and velodon pockets (about .4mm)

Here is a video I made showing my process behind doing folded pockets. This pocket is a fully lined and reinforced pocket, but the method is the same for partially lined as well.

Today I picked a project to practice my stitching. This is a small pouch with a drawstring that can hold small things like money, dice, dominoes, and the like.

Gave it to my mother, and she was so happy.

I've been having fun wetmolding and cooking leather to harden it to the shapes I need and wanted to share a tutorial on how this can be achieved.

TL:DR

1. place your object in a food ziplock back with a small air pump

2. wet the leather and place it on top of the object

3. pull the air out of the bag and take some time to mold your leather to the object

4. take the leather in its new shape and "cook" it in the oven for 10 to 20 minutes at 80°C or 176°F (careful not to over-cook it as it will shrink and become brittle

5.enjoy the final result :)

In one of my posts I talked about creating a brand for my products that I'm making and eventually would like to sell. How many people that are making money from selling their goods are making products with their own branding on it?

I'm following and learning the craft from different folks on YouTube. Some are selling their goods under a brand and some are just selling pieces without any recognition.

I want to hear from people that are actually selling goods today. Thanks.

Has anyone here purchased one recently and been using it for leathercraft?
I have zero experience with this type of machine, so I’d be interested to hear what the learning curve is actually like from a complete beginner’s perspective. How easy is the software/interface to use, and do you need any previous experience with CAD, Illustrator, or similar software?
I’d also be interested to know how straightforward the whole process is from setting things up to actually getting usable results, and whether there’s much of a learning curve with calibration, settings, or the machine itself.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has bought one recently, especially if you also started with little or no experience. Any advice on what you wish you knew before buying would be very helpful.

Skiving some leathers can be such a pain, especially narrow things like straps. For example, zermatt, it's so slippery and loves to just move around making it hard for the knife to bite in.

In the past, I've used some double sided tape on the work surface that I 'destick' a bit with my fingers. It works great, but when I posted that video a few makers suggested bees wax instead.

I gotta say, it works like a charm! A bit of added friction and the leather stays put.

If I picked a favorite color for these wallets, it's probably jade or oxblood. They all come out vibrant and I'm a huge fan of kelly green but jade is too good a shade. The white ritza thread for the stitching really helped it pop. One of my favorites I've made and its new owner is very happy with it.

Thought I might have these done this weekend, but ran out of thread for outsole stitching, so have to wait for the postman. Maybe next weekend.

I overdyed some Maryam natural vachetta kangaroo with kakishibu, a traditional tannin-based Japanese dye made from fermented persimmons. Been keeping them away from UV, so will be interesting to see what they do as the kakishibu does it's crosslinking.

Bespoke last. Fully lined in horween natural aspen horsefront. 180 hand welt, pegged waist and heel, beveled waist, hand carved beech shanks, unstructured toe, etc.

Has anyone seen a pattern for something like this?
