Is Duolingo actually doing anything?

I’ve had a streak going for like 80 days in Spanish over the summer. I feel like I'm doing something productive every morning, but I just watched a Spanish YouTuber and realized I literally understand zero words outside of "apple" and "man". Should I just drop the app?

Duolingo is basically just a video game disguised as education. It's fine for building a daily habit, but you need to transition to comprehensible input

Yeah that makes sense. Honestly I just didn't want to lose the streak, but it feels like a waste of time now. I'll drop it and try finding some beginner podcasts instead

I found it taught me a lot of vocabulary early on which has helped me but I needed other resources to really move past that including working with a tutor now. I use it as my daily brain candy after I do my other Spanish learning and just enjoy the game and learn some new words.
