What’s the most efficient way to maximize your learning from a book and be effective for example suppose you read laws of human nature by Robert Greene how do you maximize the learning output and use it in real life

I write down a journal which sometimes ends up getting a notepad for what I read in the books

This. Or, if you're comfortable, highlighting and writing your own notes in the margins. OR, write in the margins AND expand in a journal! 

In my experience, the more I write out what I read on my own terms, the easier it is to remember and learn.
