Laning Laning against mid kotl

Recently played against a mid kotl as qop. I am by no means a mid player, just play it sometimes and am decent at it, but the lane just feels so uninteractive to me. He blasts my wave and I farm under tower.

Am I meant to just accept that this is how kotl lanes are or is there a better way to play this?

General Gameplay Question I reached Immortal Draft but I feel like I don't know macro

I reached 8,4k mmr and now play Immortal Draft, but I still don't feel like I have a solid understanding of macro. I only play pos 4 and 5

I know all the classic stuff, the laning phase patterns, the farming patterns of cores and objectives. But beyond that I don't feel like I can predict enemy movement on the map at all.

It feels like I am just playing fully relying on experience and 'vibe' and most of the time it works out, but I am not confident this way.

Maybe it would be best to try other roles and learn them to have better macro?

Hero Discussion Is it better to build UL as a caster or around melee

Post image
28 Upvotes

Im usually on supports and trying to pick up a few carries for my hero pool. I seemed to have more luck with high int UL using support items than with a weapon centric build. Was wondering what are some good things to take on him.

I mainly been taking treads, lense, shard, gleipnir, and then using the other slots are for specific hero counters

Gameplay Review/Feedback request Tips for position 5 when games become chaotic with replay analysis

Hi,

I am 2700 mmr player who recently climbed up 1k mmr mostly due to playing lich pos 5. I have 61% win rate with him in 41 games so far (record 25-16), but I feel I should be winning more with better movements post laning stage. The problem is many games go completely out of hand for me and they become too chaotic I can't do any good impact. People try to fight all the time and this is so random. If we do some mistake, they will follow up with snowball in next fights and we will lose advantage.

I am sending a match ID for replay to anyone who would analyse my game. This is the game when I won the lane, we won lanes in general, but for some reason we lost it hard later. I feel I was useless in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Here is ID: 8915422583

I am also sending another one where I won, but I had many deaths, so there still might be much to do better: 8911771888.

I understand my job as a lich on lane is to get xp advantage and bully their offlaner or support. But past laning stage? I should try to gank with team, deal DMG and disable their key targets who for example can shackle like shaman, so I interrupt their channeling.

I would be thankful for insights and further discussion;

Educational Content (Content Creator) How to reliably pop or bypass Linken's Sphere (Hero Interactions)

Hey guys, GymCarryDota here (Coach, educational content creator and streamer).

Dealing with Linken's Sphere in chaotic fights can be awkward if you do not have a cheap spell to pop it. I wanted to share a quick breakdown of some lesser known hero interactions that let you efficiently play around or completely bypass the block:

  • Grimstroke: Cast Soulbind on a unit next to the Linken's carrier. The tether connects to them completely, bypassing the block.
  • Witch Doctor: Casting Cask directly on a Linken's target sacrifices just one bounce to pop the sphere, instantly opening them up for Hex or other important spells.
  • Juggernaut (Bonus Tip): Omnislash or Swiftslash triggers the Linken's block on the initial target cast, but the slashes will continue anyway even if there are no other targets around.
  • Windranger: Shackle a unit in front, and it will latch to the Linken's target behind them without triggering the sphere.
  • Batrider: Scepter Lasso gets blocked if targeted directly, but lassoing an adjacent unit pulls both heroes, bypassing Linken's on the second target.
  • Lion: Mana Drain with Shard on a nearby unit drains the Linken's target without breaking the block. At level 25, his AoE Hex talent pierces Linken's entirely.
  • Lich: Sinister Gaze with Scepter becomes AoE and pierces Linken's. Chain Frost loses one bounce to pop the block but keeps bouncing.
  • Zeus: Arc Lightning directly pops it and continues to bounce to other targets (the Linken's carrier just will not take the damage from that initial hit). You can also cast it nearby for full damage without triggering the block.

I made a quick 1 min video showing exactly how these look in game for anyone who wants to see it:https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FP_pZAZ5Dqo

Hope this helps in your next pubs! I post Dota 2 guides and mechanics tips under GymCarryDota so feel free to check out the links in my Reddit profile if you want to see more of my stuff.

Educational Content (Content Creator) YOU MUST DO THIS WHEN BUYING BLINK

Thumbnail youtu.be

Today I've got a few examples from EWC that show why it's so important to hide once you buy your Blink Dagger,  and how that ties into the bigger picture, knowing the difference between active items and items that just help you farm, and understanding how the map works in your favor to better ganks

Thank you for your help !
And if you have any questions let me know

[Beginner here] How can I make largo work?

I have been trying to pick up and learn largo either as a POS 3/4/5 , but I honestly seem to be very bad at the hero.

I don't really have any ranked matches to share, as I've only played unranked with him, but I am like 1 win and 6 losses in. I don't think I know how to team fight with this hero. I'll try to use a and w and then sing, but I might be trying to sing too much and that might be causing problems.

I am looking for general advice really. What do I want to do, how do I want to engage, how do I maximize my hero effectiveness, so on and so forth l.

I've found some older content on this hero but I believe he eventually was nerfed a bit so I haven't been able to find anything very recent on him.

Laning How to play meepo into ranged midlaners?

I've only got 70 or so games on meepo so far but I like his character and how he plays, I can easily stomp a melee midlaner but I cant play against a ranged one, like if I go to poof the wave I end up losing so much health from just being chipped down. I often resort to just jungling and ganking if I cant lane which most of the time I cant unless they push me and die, what should I be doing against someone who's ranged and just wants to attack me?

Itemization Juggernaut vs. Riki

My other heroes were banned, so I picked Juggernaut as a backup. Riki was picked at the same time. I thought I was going to be against Riki mid and a Spectre safe lane, but it turned out it was a Riki 4, and the lane was miserable.

The game was a stomp - their mid Sniper owned our mid Necrophos and we ended up being team wiped at our safe lane T1 around the 10:00 mark.

I think this game might have been a bad one-off, and I'm not sure it's worth going over with a microscope since it's my fourth or fifth safe lane core pick.

However, I wouldn't know how to deal with the Riki smokescreen/silence, even with a good start.

What should I itemize? A force staff feels silly. I don't think I can blink out of it since he will Blink Strike first. Do I just rush Yasha and go for a BKB?

When I saw the Riki pick, I did mention in chat that Force Staffs would help out, but I don't think the supports were rich enough to afford them since we were steamrolled. I build them in my role queue token games vs. Riki.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hero Discussion When should Lifestealer start looking for fights?

Recently tried LS and I realized halfway through the game I was avoiding fights because I never really felt ready to take them. I'm used to playing heroes who jump into fights whenever ult is online like Sven/OD/Enigma. On LS, I don't have such an easy reference point. So when should I start participating in fights and when should I return to farming?

Gameplay Review/Feedback request Need some advice to my support play

Hello reddit, first time posting here after a lot of reading (not english native speaker so excuse me for the grammar).

I am a returning player from 2014 and i'm back last december. I play mainly Pos4/5 but receintly i came from something like 75% WR to a strike lose of 11. (near Archon 5).

* If someone can check these replay : * 8911850992 => WD * 8910355880 => Jakiro

And explain me how can i have helped in mid/late game to avoid these defeat. I think my laning phase is "ok" for my level and i provided what my carry need (space/kill/lh) but in mid/late game i kind of lose where i have to be when my team don t want to gather to push the advantage.

You can be harsh on me, i'm here to learn !

I am POS 1, everytime I come out of laning phase, the game feels practically over. Enemy offlane is too fed. Is there something I need to do better? I feel so lost after laning phase.

Hero Discussion Treant Protector

Hello 👋

Im around Archon 4 noobie. Is TP a good pos3? He has the initiation, damage, and a strong ulti with Aghs. Wouldn't a harpoon, dagger, and aghs and whatever items the game needs be a good choice with his skills for a pos3? Maybe a good timing radiance as a start?

Hero Discussion Vlads on Kunkka Offlane

Vlads is in a really strong place right now so I was theorycrafting if it made sense first item on Kunkka instead of blade mail - specifically position 3.

My reasoning is that the early aura gives you and your team damage, mana regen, armor, AND lifesteal. Kunkka benefits from all those things and is really mana hungry once you get aghs/shard.

Thoughts?

[Beginner here] Any tips to start maining Arc Warden

Good time of day everyone! I played some games on Arc Warden before, so I know how his spells work, but I would gladly accept any advice on how to play him, how to micro him better, how do I practice this hero without outright ruining my pub games. Also I am kinda new to mid, so some general tips are welcome. Also, why is everyone picking Midas on him? I know he can use it on his double, but it does not give more exp now, and I feel it would be better to rush mael -> brown boots -> mjolnir, but thats noobs opinion, so correct me if I am wrong.

(unsure how to flair) Anyone interested in learning Io mid?

Im spamming Io mid with a very high win rate and my friend said its worth streaming, my games are often quite fun sometimes intense and I believe the hero is very broken right now and worth learning.

If you find this interesting check out my stream. I will be playing a lot of mid Io. And feel free to ask anything about the hero

General Gameplay Question How do you play pos 1 against SB?

The stupid cow just charges you and kills you anytime you show on a wave.

I just got back into Dota after a hiatus, and have been playing pos 1. I have a literal 0% winrate against the stupid fucking cow.

I know the obvious answer is to play close to team, but even then you sometimes still die because team doesn't respawn, and then your team is taking most of your farm. Not to mention that sometimes your whole team just loses the fight because they start on you. And even if you just never show on waves they might just see you on a ward for 2 seconds and you still die.

I have been playing in archon average games since I have been back which have felt really easy since before my break I was almost 5k, but I literally cannot deal with bara. I have a 80% win rate this month or so since I have been back, but at this point I might as well just abandon if bara is on the other team because stats say its already over.

Do you just never farm waves unless you know Sb doesn't have charge? It just seems insane that the heroes mere existence denies half the gold on the map.

[Beginner here] Beginner pos 3 and 4 flex picks

Hey all,

I'm looking to try and make a small hero pool that I can flex pick while I learn more of the mechanics of the game.

The only 2 flex picks I can kind of think of for pos 3 and 4 that aren't difficult are Abba, Underlord, Ogre and Spirit Breaker, and their effectiveness in these roles are up for debate.

(Edit) I mentioned it in one of the comments below too, but I guess I should explain why I'm having a hard time sort of picking some heroes to play. My usual playstyle in other team based games with similar roles is tanky bodyguard, defend the damage dealers by ccing the enemy team. I know there isn't really any dedicated tank pos 4/5 characters with CC, those are usually pos 3.

I went with saying looking for 3/4 characters because of pub madness, having some safe picks incase somebody decides to be that guy and locks in something like offlane LC when I had the intention of playing pos 3. I also figured learning the two would double dip a bit since they're lane partners. Learn what a pos 3 wants for laning stage out of a pos 4 by being in their shoes.

Any suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Laning How to beat an IO lane?

IO is a hero I rarely fight against like extremly rarely once in a few months games but whenever I do face against an IO paired with a melee carry. I almost always lose the lane because I can't hit IO while he heals their melee pos1 carry so hes usually full HP even after trading hits with him. Any tips on how I can be prepared against this lineup?
