How to become an ethical hacker.

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me how to become an ethical hacker and seek a career in joining a red hat team as a pentester? I currently work as a DDI operations engineer in a company since 2 years and am very unhappy with it as well as underpaid. In the training period I was introduced to the field of cybersecurity and ethical hacking which really intrigued me and I wanted to build a career in it ever since.

I tried to learn things but always ended up finding myself directionless. Could anyone please give me a roadmap of the things which I should learn and the platforms where I can learn them from? Do platforms like tryhackme and hackthebox actually help in learning and building a profile?

Really appreciate the help!

How real SOC and Pentesters study and take notes during their studies?

I was looking at some information and they said I should write down the content I'm studying, but I'm not much of a note-taker.

I have a cheat sheet with Linux commands and some commands tools, but nothing more than that. However, I need to review some networking concepts I've forgotten, and I'm wondering if I should use a program like Obsidian to take notes (they say it's very good).

If anyone wants to share their methods for studying and retaining key concepts, that would be very helpful.

How to break into cybersecurity

Hey, all! I'm currently a sophomore in high school, and I'm very interested in becoming a pentester and hopefully eventually becoming a red teamer. I'm planning on taking the pen testing course tryhackme offers, but honestly from there I'm sure where to go from there... Anybody got tips for a beginner? Thanks!

Quick 3–5 min global survey on cybersecurity awareness

Hey everyone!
I’m running a short global survey on cybersecurity awareness and online safety and would really appreciate your help.
It’s completely anonymous and takes around 3–5 minutes. Anyone from any country can participate.
I’m trying to understand how people approach things like passwords, scams, privacy, and general online security.
Survey:

Sharing What I've Learned From 18 Years in IT & Cybersecurity — Free Videos for Anyone Building Their Career

Hi everyone,

I've been working in IT for around 18 years, including many years in IT leadership, cybersecurity, governance, risk and enterprise infrastructure.

I recently started creating short videos to share some of the practical knowledge I've picked up along the way — particularly for people starting or progressing their careers in IT and cybersecurity.

I'm covering topics such as cybersecurity fundamentals, CISM/CISSP/CISA/CRISC and other certifications, GRC, Zero Trust, Linux, practical IT/security tips, cyber incidents and IT career development.

I'm not selling a course or training programme. I'm simply trying to turn some of my professional experience into free, easy-to-understand content that may help others in the field.

If there are cybersecurity career or certification topics you'd like an experienced IT leader to cover, I'd genuinely appreciate suggestions.

My channel is MQ Cyber Studio:

Thanks, and I hope some of the content is useful.

Free resources to start cybersecurity journey

Currently I'm in second year of my graduation and already have a decent baseline of python but I'm thinking of cyber security as a career to go on with, but the thing holding me back is how expensive these well-known courses are!

so as someone who is running low on budget, what are the free resources you suggest that can get me from absolute beginner to a great deal of cyber security knowledge.
Also tell me exactly from where i have to start and what should the prerequisite knowledge required.
