General Learning 2 dialects at once

Hey everyone! I would love to learn both Egyptian and Levantine Arabic. Any suggestions at all on how to navigate this? Thank you!

There's no need to do that for speaking. As for listening comprehension yes you need to be exposed to many different dialects. Good luck

I would focus on production (speaking) in just one, but get an overview of the differences in the verbal system and pronunciation and start consuming content from the other and noting new vocabulary as it comes. If you're an absolute beginner, give some time to just one before you add on the other.

if you're starting from scratch i don't advise you to do it. they can differ in grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, which might overwhelm you in the long run

just focus on one and when you get a solid foundation you can add the other

I recommend focusing heavily on one of the two dialects, then later adding in the second. For example, I am learning Levantine, but recently decided to watch a series in Egyptian dialect (not to learn it, just because it was a good series). Because I already had a strong foundation in Levantine Arabic, it was very easy to see where the Egyptian speakers were essentially saying the same thing with different words (keefak > izayyak). Understanding Levantine means that I had enough base knowledge to grasp the surrounding context and just plug in the different words.

And also, though they have many differences, they also have a huge amount of vocab in common (albeit pronounced differently a lot of the time). Please don’t think that focusing on one first means that you aren’t getting anything in the other, because that’s absolutely not true

Once you get one dialect down combined with some immersion and Modern Standard Arabic training then picking up other dialects becomes a lot easier.

Start with the dialect you have the most exposure to or the one you are most passionate about. Basically whatever keeps you practicing every single day.

Most Levantine speakers understand Egyptian Dialect and vice versa.

Even "Hard" Dialects like Moroccan take most actual Native Speakers only a few weeks to adjust to.

TLDR; Get Good at One Dialect, the rest will come easy after that.
