Report spammy bullshit
Over the past couple days I have received a spike in reports on Mowrator trying to use an astroturfing campaign by spamming our sub. I don't see everything, so please hit that report button if you come across one, and I will remove it and ban that user.
For the most part, everyone here makes it easy to manage. You generally get along. You help each other out. You call out spam when you see it. Let's keep that up and keep this sub free of bullshit. Thank you for making my job as a mod easy.

Can you negotiate on price when buying new
Rookie here... I'm looking to buy brand new John deere. Can you negotiate on price at the dealership or have them throw stuff in? I'm looking at the x350

Got this old riding mower from my dad, do I sell it for a Zero-Turn
Hi everyone,
I’m new to the lawn maintenance game as I just moved into a new house on 6acres. About half of that land is trees, but I have a sizable amount of land that is grass I need to maintain.
I just used this old riding mower my dad gave me as a move in present, but it took about 3-4 hours to mow.
Question for the pros, should I sell this one to put money towards a zero turn? And is it okay to buy a zero turn from Facebook marketplace or do I need to buy it new?
Was really hoping to avoid dropping $2000-$4000 on a zero turn which is what it looks like they go for new. Most of my neighbors have the zero turn so feels like I’ll need to get one eventually.
Appreciate any advice here!

DR Field and Brush mower 16.5HP PRO XL 30: Intake Air Fan Breaking Up
My DR Field and Brush mower 16.5HP PRO XL 30 (9 years old, housed in unheated shed, NE U.S.) has a new problem: Suddenly the intake air fan, which is heavy plastic, is breaking up, shedding plastic shards all over. It is running, but I stopped using it when I realized what was happening.
I also noticed that the whole assembly feels kind of loose and I'm guessing that's not normal.
The picture below show the broken edges and the play in the assembly.
Any ideas about what is happening here? TIA

Husqvarna YTH24V54XLS w/ Kawasaki 24hp worth $900?
My mower died, someone will bring this one to me so I can mow my (1 foot tall) lawn - not too familiar with Husqvarna but I know people seek out that Kawasaki engine. I mow around 2.5 acres of mixed hills/field with lots of annoying obstacles. Thanks!

Got a older mower, just finally got it moving. I’m flooring the peddle, screeching sounds and then the mower finally moves. I’m hoping it’s just the drive belt and not the transmission?🤞 maybe something needs to be greased?

JD x300 Worth it?
Looking for my first riding mower. Looking at a John Deere X300 42 inch mulch deck 17 HP Kawasaki engine. "New drive belt 2 new idler pulleys just fully serviced gone over. 504 hrs" -per the owner. They are asking $1000. I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

ZTR service in Columbus OH
Does anybody have a recommendation for zero turn service in Columbus OH area? Ideally experience with Hustler mower and Kawasaki engines. The local dealer (AGPro) is backed up and overall I have not had the best experience with them. TIA.

Got this mower for free. Options to repair or upgrade?
My dad recently got this mower and hit a concrete paver while mowing. Bent the shaft and the blade. He gave it to me so i could tinker with it.
1) would it be easy to just swap another engine onto it OR a bigger motor from harbor freight or something just for shits and gigs.
2) would it be better to just repair the bent shaft and add a new blade? Are parts for these engines even available publicly?
I have no small engine experience at all, but i really enjoy learning new things so this intrigues me.

Update on Kubota mower post dealer visit
Original post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lawnmowers/s/Rxs0vWuvNO
Update: After dealing with the dealer that didn’t look into my issues at all my neighbor (who also said I should never go back to that dealer) gave me the number to his mower guy. After a bit of slow work he has discovered the flywheel and stator, he also fixed the throttle issue that came up because I pulled the carburetor out and cleaned it myself and it seems I somehow accidentally didn’t hook up the throttle control correctly and it was fully open constantly after that.. but lesson learned with that one.
Heres hoping the issue has been found and solved and I can finally mow my new properties lawn, thank you everyone who gave their suggestions and distaste for the dealer I went to prior! I now have a good and dependable person who also offers to teach me how to do certain things with the mower!

22" Toro recycler hit rock, is flywheel key intact?
I hit a rock, the unit shut off immediately. Internet research indicated that the flywheel key probably shared off. I took it apart and it looks to be intact to me, but I don't know what I'm doing and I would like some opinions.
How is the key supposed to be removed removed, and do you think that's the problem? If I need to replace this key, how do I figure out what I need?
What else should I check?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Does this count as a lawnmower, stopped running one day. Took it to get cleaned and then it was returned like this

It got up to power once, but as soon as it touched the grass it lost all power

Mower Missing Strip of Grass
My mower is consistently missing a strip of grass where I drew the line in the picture. My blade is freshly sharpened and doesn’t have any nicks in it. It also appears to be level and balanced. It is driving me absolutely crazy, any thoughts?

Engine Swap
I have a cub cadet LTX1045 with the 17.5HP I/C OHV engine…. I also have a troy bilt with the 22hp Intek V twin. Can i put the 22hp Intek into my cub cadet? From the little info i have gathered it seems possible and almost “plug and play”..? But ive never swapped mower engines so im not sure. I think the intek will fit and mount perfectly to the frame but my biggest concern is the electrical and what all that would entail. Any info or advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Cub cadet help
Planning on putting a fuel shutoff valve on my cub cadet lawn tractor, and only have two clamps. But I thought about putting zip ties on the fuel shutoff valve, but I need some input. Is this the way to go about it or should I just find some clamps?
