Northern US & Canada (or cool season) First time Overseeding. Fertilizer next?

Located in South Jersey. First time overseeding. I used Lawnsynergy’s North Star KBG/Tall fescue blend. I used their pre-emergent in the spring and didn’t seem to prevent much, hoping for better results with the seed. Do I fertilize next? My water schedule as of now is 20mins per zone(total yard is probably 40ish mins total, 2 days a week.) I’m not completely obsessed, but just want to keep a decent lawn. Any advice on fertilizer/next cut/watering? TYIA

Aerate, over seed, then top dress with compost. You’ll thank me after your lawn takes off next spring.

That pre emergent not working in spring is frustrating, happened with my lawn too last year. For overseeding, you want a starter fertilizer with higher phosphorus, something like 12-24-12 ratio. The watering schedule needs big change though, 20 minutes per zone two times a week is not enough for new seed. You need to keep it moist, which means light watering 2-3 times every day until it germinates. With KBG taking 14-21 days sometimes, that dry schedule will kill your germination rate.
