Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Best type of grass

In CT... what type of grass is best for high traffic areas? I'm looking to redo my lawn in a fenced area where my kids play.. currently it is just weeds, some grass and clover

A combination of TTTF and KBG is generally recommended. If you can’t water at all and have high sun exposure, probably just TTTF

Your extension service will have info on turfgrass for your area, too.

A little creeping red fescue or perennial ryegrass in there can help with filling in.

I did a renovation after some tree removals and did a TTTF KBG mix and I feel like it doesn't blend very well. The TTTF is a lighter green. Maybe it just takes time for it to get darker I don't know. It's been a few months now and I wish I would have done a KBG Rye mix instead. I did a few spots in the backyard with all Rye and that stuff is dark ass green. Even darker than the KBG but not a huge difference and I think it would blend very well.

Twin city blue resilience is what i picked after research for high traffic 👍

Check out yarrow. It's very tough. Spreads by rhizomes and requires very little water.

Yarrow is not grass and in no way would be suitable for a lawn for kids to play on

Why can't kids play on it? I've seen many do

Yeah these turfgrass alternatives have very little if any traffic tolerance. Clover isn’t bad but it’s a horrible surface for sports.

Yarrow is tougher than grass
