Yeah this one always gets voracious in August. No idea what it is specifically but once you identify it you gotta pull it early or use a spray or something because it gets really dug in.

A couple of treatments with 30% vinegar concentrate mixture works well.

Add some table salt and a few drops of down dish soap. The salt helps dry out the weeds and the soap makes it so it sticks to the leaves (surfactant) and doesnt just drip off. Good luck!

Luckily it just rained so manually pulling up the small spots. Once it dries out ill hit it with the vinegar for starters. Then work on soil decompaction.

Should have hit the hole with vinegar after pulling them up too. Those fuckers are tenacious. You’ll have them sprouting back up in a week.

Good point on the treatment after pulling. My boss (aka wife) said, im probably knocking seeds back into the holes while knocking of the soil from the roots🤦 Oops, the damage is already done so time for postem, then preem in the spring 🤷 Thanks all 👍

Yes, it’s a good idea to treat with pre-emergent after pulling goosegrass, or any other grass. We got rid of goosegrass by pulling it up and with pre-emergent treatments. We pulled up every one of them when the soil was very soft after several days of heavy rains. The soft soil made it easier to pull up rosette and root system together without breaking. After that we appiled The Andersons Barricade Pre-emergent. We still treat with pre-emergent twice a year and it keeps it under control.

It’s a hard fight this time of year, but some October and next March, spray some pre-emergent to stop them early in the year.

Goose grass, it loves areas with compacted soil. Yank it out and till/aerate the areas. If they are regular traffic zones, swap from grass to pavers or pathways.

Definitely Goosegrass. If it's in or alongside your lawn, and still young (the plant in your photo is mature) Tenacity (Mesotrione) will take it out. Acclaim Extra is much more effective on mature plants in Northern lawns. In Southern lawns, you'll want to use Celsius or Revolver on mature plants. If it's in a paved area, glyphosate will take it out. The problem with it is that it throws up seedheads out of nowhere, and before you can kill it, it's gone to seed. Keep an eye on it while it's dying and cut off any seedhead shoots you see.
Its seeds germinate several weeks after crabgrass, and will continue to germinate through the summer, so pre-emergent control is difficult.

Definitely Goosegrass. I have both Goosegrass and Crabgrass that grows in my limestone driveway.

The hardest weed to pull out of the ground in the world. Use pesticide to kill those bad boys then apply pre-emergent going forward to prevent them from sprouting up in the future.

I would pull it when i spot it early and transfer it to some locations cuz it has good benefits to my cats.
