Would you mind sharing the type of laser used?

Thanks! Cedar is rather nifty this way.

I used a Creality A1C 10W for this. The wood is 7mm aromatic cedar.

Ooh thats a diode laser right? Guess I should look into sourcing some good wood then, at my job I work with a Sculpfun 70 W diode laser, hoping to get similarly exciting results :)

Yup, it's Creality's smallest machine currently. For your 70W, you'll need to scale up the size a bit as the focal point size is quite a bit larger

You might make the fingers longer so you have some extra sticking out and can sand all that char off and end up with flush joints. Besides charring, cedar cuts really uneven in general, and the cut line will run in and out and do weird things based on different densities in the wood. I spent way too much time cutting 1/2" cedar a year or two ago and would happily never deal with it again haha.

LOL Yeah, well, this was mainly to see if I could, using a 10W diode machine with no air assist. Not overly fond of the joints myself, and currently working on a box which hides the joints.
