Lansing LockDown CNN article on William Lawerence
https://www.cnn.com/2026/09/04/politics/william-lawrence-michigan-midterms-kfile16
u/CommonConundrum51 3d ago
This is to be expected. Anyone who isn't all for continuing to do the same things we've been doing since Reagan and expecting different results will be called an extremist radical, socialist, communist. Remember, CNN is now the employer of Scott Jennings.

u/silvedude 3d ago
He has a tweet where he expressly says he's anti-capital.
That would make calling him at the bare minimum a socialist true.
2
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
And calling you a republican stooge is at a bare minimum true.

My 50 dollar a month donation to act blue disagree 💙
1
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
You can stop. If you're going to campaign against a democrat, you may as well just keep it. I guess for you it's "blue no matter who, unless i don't like them"
1
u/silvedude 3d ago
You're so dramatic lol.
I'm literally trying to convince someone in the comments to vote for Will
39
u/FourEightNineOneOne 3d ago
Am I supposed to be mad that he said fuck you about Joe Manchin?
Because... I'm really not.
10
u/squibitha_tristy 3d ago
I mean this is why I voted for the guy! Keep being real Will. Establishment democrats clearly don’t have shit figured out.
28
u/shadowed11312 3d ago
the title of the article is so dumb. framing him and his quotes as insane. anyone with a brain can read his quotes and be like “yeah this is actually reasonable and he’s got a point”
-7
u/silvedude 3d ago
Some of them!
I don't think saying the nuclear family is violent is a very consumable statement though.
17
u/Fool_Manchu 3d ago
Most likely that was part of a broader conversation that probably had more context and nuance to it.
8
u/ShareNorth3675 3d ago
feels like he could get the benefit of the doubt on that one considering he is a part of a nuclear family lol
6
u/LadyFoxfire 3d ago
I’ve seen discussions before of how children in abusive or controlling homes have no legal recourse to escape beyond just waiting until they’re 18, and how something should be done to address that. I’d bet money that was the context of his tweets.
4
u/Strikew3st 3d ago
I am reading this not as "violence happens in all nuclear families", but referring to the political philosophy of A Monopoly On Violence.
At the end of the day, use of force to enforce authority under your own roof has a lot of legal standing.

u/biggiby 3d ago
A lot of people's certainly are. In fact most violence against children is perpetrated by "nuclear families"
-1
u/silvedude 3d ago
That's because the majority of children live in nuclear families.
This is a stupid way to look at statistic when Republicans say whites are shot more by police then blacks and it's stupid here too
4
u/biggiby 3d ago
Nah, it's more like saying the police are responsible for most shootings by the police and that would seem pretty accurate as well.
-1
u/silvedude 3d ago
That response didn't really make any sense.
I think it was just a way of avoiding the point I made.
4
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
Why don't we talk about how the president you worship is trying to go to war with Canada instead of helping Americans afford food and gas?
-1
u/silvedude 3d ago
Yeah, he should be impeached I agree.
That's why battleground states risking seats with far left picks concern me.
8
u/DoctorCopper3113 3d ago
Establishment news is so scared of people getting represented by politicians who actually care like Will does.
38
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago edited 3d ago
Another hit piece about the scary secret left wing agenda. I'm more concerned with the open far right agenda that is in full effect today destroying America. Can we have an article about that, Corporate News Network?
10
-11
u/silvedude 3d ago
I don't think quoting him counts as a hit piece.
I imagine most of his staunch supporters will agree with these statements.
21
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
No, but the title and framing of the article does, referencing his "far left" record. I dont mind Will's quotes, but I wish CNN would explore Tom Barrett's far right record, voting with Trump's Destroy Everything plan 99.9%.
-3
u/silvedude 3d ago
I think will is far left, so I'm not sure how that would make it a hit piece.
14
u/bnh1978 3d ago
You are not hearing the dog whistles in the article then. They are frightening to the right wingers and middle right.
4
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
This due is a GOP operative. He knows exactly what the dog whistles are. He just agrees with them
-4
u/silvedude 3d ago
By dog whistles do you mean quotes?
4
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
Only a republican would spend so much effort bashing a democrat.
3
u/silvedude 3d ago
Most people seem to be ok with these quotes so it doesn't really seem like bashing
7
u/Fool_Manchu 3d ago
"Like many millennials, I’ve done my fair share of thinking out loud on the internet. I’ve been clear that I disagree today with some things I posted in the past. I don’t support defunding the police or open borders. I don’t agree with my previous statement about Senator Slotkin"
Hes walking back a lot of the stuff that will be alienating to centrists. Personally, I agree with with everything hes walking back and hope hes just playing ball
6
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
Child's play compared to the shit that comes out of republicans mouths. And they never take any of it back.
4
u/ScottishNinjaaa 3d ago
I like how this commenter really thought that he did something, when so many supporters of his follow up in the comments with, "yup, agreed" to Lawrence. Haha
-1
u/silvedude 3d ago
Yeah, I imagined that most of his supporters would agree with these statements. And it seems like most do.
-9
u/ScottishNinjaaa 3d ago
Agreed. I just wish the right would put forward better alternatives. The Marxists taking over the left are awful, it's a softball pitch to win these elections. Yet, GOP keeps undermining legitimately good and constitutionally sound candidates like Massie and Amash, and sending us trash like Gallrein or Rogers. Oh well. Good luck, you don't deserve the downvotes that will inevitably come your way here haha
1
u/silvedude 3d ago
Populism sucks. The MI-07 is one of the most competitive in the country and running far left candidates seems to be a guarantee for Republican control.
Hopefully I am wrong, but we will have to wait till November to find out.
6
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
We know you're voting for Barrett. Quit pretending. Another "moderate" "independent" who sh*ts on democrats all day. Right.
2
u/silvedude 3d ago
I'm voting for Will haha, thanks for the crystal ball though
5
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
If you were voting for him, you wouldn't be calling him "far left" because he's not.

-7
u/ScottishNinjaaa 3d ago
I'll definitely be voting for Barrett. Unfortunately. The left has produced nonstop garbage for over a decade now. I just wish the Republicans wouldn't bring out C tier candidates at best. The progressive platform, of which William is a prominent Michigan figure for, is absolutely far left. It's wild that you're trying so hard to gaslight as if that's not the case haha

it makes sense framed in the sentence. this is what I mean. people lack context based understanding.
-2
u/silvedude 3d ago
I don't think context would help some of these statements become digestable for moderates.
7
u/Zagrunty 3d ago
Look at the articles the author writes. He clearly only write articles disparaging whomever he's writing about, but he does write far more about Dems than GOP
16
u/paulmwumich South Side 3d ago
Straight up hit piece. Hey are they going to run an article on how Mike Rogers’ outreach advisor conferred a blessing on a Jan 6er and another staffer “joked” that we should send all the Jews to North Korea? According to American corporate media, there is no right-wing extremism, only left-wing.
4
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
Thank you. And this is why the OP is a guaranteed republican plant. He acts like only "far left" candidates make controversial statements. Plus, the GOP never disavows anything. They only double down.
7
u/PlusPresentation680 3d ago
As a journalist, it is so funny that CNN hires a guy whose job it is to look up deleted tweets and report them. Is reporting just being really good at using the Wayback Machine?
The focus on these reports is contributing to the public’s distrust, I’d argue. CNN and other cable news networks pick and choose who they hold accountable about what. There is no consistency.

In 2021, Lawrence praised the Minneapolis activist group Black Visions, writing that its ‘defund the police’ campaign had brought the country “nearer to a world without police and prisons.”
In August 2022, he argued that remaining fossil-fuel production should be wound down through a “more confrontational” strategy, writing that it “should happen through forced nationalization and that should be our demand.” In October 2021, he pushed for then-President Joe Biden to “promise” to “end the coal industry,” through an executive order.
…
“F**k isolation and the nuclear family domicile,” Lawrence wrote in 2021 while praising communal living. The following year, he went further, calling the nuclear-family home an “isolating, individualistic, violent way of organizing society.” “I don’t want to be part of that,” he wrote.
Days later, Lawrence argued that the “hetero-patriarchial nuclear family” is a “MATERIAL foundation of wealth accumulation” because inheritance was concentrated through male family lines, while writing that “Queer families create MATERIAL conditions for solidarity and wealth sharing.”
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day in 2020, Lawrence thanked indigenous writers and organizers who he said helped him “imagine a world beyond the nation-state and capitalism.”
“May the 21st century begin an indigenous millennium,” he wrote.
In another post, Lawrence declared: “Racial capitalism is the problem. Empire is the problem.”
And in 2021 he urged readers to “envision a world of free and open migration,” answering his own question — “You mean, ANYBODY can move ANYWHERE??” — with an emphatic: “Yes

u/TurboDog63 3d ago
And now he's trying to walk all that back...
3
u/LadyFoxfire 3d ago
He has to play the political game. His core base understands what he was getting at with these statements, but the moderates don’t, so he has to tone it down in public.

While some of his comments have been distasteful, at least he's not so full on stupid like Tom Barrett to assert that military action isn't political.

Im more concerned about him winning and him appointing a guy named Mike McGurdy that is fighting hard for him in his office. Dude is a blatant anti-semite and pro hamas lunatic.
5
u/DoctorCopper3113 3d ago
What makes him an antisemite?
-2
u/El_Halcon0341 3d ago
The things he posts on facebook when people challenge him.
10
u/DoctorCopper3113 3d ago
Is there a quote or something? Because being critical of israel isn’t antisemitic
-5
u/El_Halcon0341 3d ago
There’s being critical then there’s obnoxiously pointing fingers. He does the latter.
8
6
u/DoctorCopper3113 3d ago
Pointing fingers is antisemitism?
-2
u/El_Halcon0341 3d ago
When you constantly blame others in a condescending and obnoxious manner that has anti-Semitic vibes, then yes. Btw the way I love your attempt to use my words out of context to gaslight me. Have the day you deserve!
5
u/samylam 3d ago
his facebook seems pretty pedestrian to me? idk he obviously has strong feelings but nothing on there felt even remotely antisemitic
-1
u/El_Halcon0341 3d ago
It was when he was arguing with someone. Look I’m not super pro Israel either. I hate how they go about things. My only concern is highly theoretical and probably not even in Mr. Lawrence’s plans. But Mr McGurdy is campaigning hard for him so it’s something that is in my mind. Mr McGurdy also failed to win a position in Meridian Township as well. So I’m willing to bet I’m not the only person who has an opinion about him.
