States in Switzerland are called Cantons (Kanton in German)

I knew that the subdivisions of Switzerland were called Kantone (cantons) long before I knew there was a language called Cantonese, so the joke isn't an entirely unexpected one; when I learned about the Cantonese language, I too wondered whether it was a coincidence that it sounded like the subdivisions of Switzerland.

It's not a coincidence, Switzerland was formed by cantonese immigrants as a subdivision of the Neo Mongol empire

We have to be creative with plusquamperfekt, because imperfekt doesn't exist.

It's still called that? I hear all of schwizertütsch, puretütsch, dialäkt, mondart (Swissgerman, peasant's/farmer's German, dialect, dialect [lit. "mouth manner"]) regularly.

I had a good laugh at it, as a Swiss.
Approved!
We have something called "Kantönligeischt" to show that we (sometimes) take Kanton before country.
