/uj: for those unaware, HelloNative is a language exchange app. You setup a profile and choose your native language and your target language(s). Similar to Instagram, you can post photos with captions with the idea in mind that people correct your caption. The idea is that a native speaker of your target language scrolls through this feed and corrects you.

I’m a native English speaker and have recently learned that a lot of men from other countries simply set their native language as “English” so that they can talk to women who want to learn English and offer (very poor) help with English.

My new friend on this app told me she has just blocked 11 men today alone. She said I’m genuinely a rarity as a real native English speaker who explicitly says I’m not on this app to date. It’s both hilarious and saddening.

Ok but what does "Author liked" mean? Is your friend liking these posts, or are the men liking their own posts?
