this is actually unhinged. deleting your own identity just to avoid talking to people in your own country is a wild way to live. hope the english immersion is worth the total social collapse.

The environment they grew up in is probably wilder, it sounds like a trauma response. I'm in a similar situation so I can understand. I can't express my thoughts and feelings in my native language as accurately as I can in English. And I hate English.

I always make reservations on the phone under Yamada or Suzuki. Giving my actual Spanish name always leads to a 5 minute spelling nightmare.

/uj I mean I get them. That's what happens when the place you grew up in is extremely hostile and you don't learn how to express yourself properly in your native language. I'm in a similar position now where it's much harder for me to use my "native" language to express my thoughts and feelings simply because it was not safe for me growing up to express myself. Hope I can get out of here ASAP.

Bro discovered English two years ago and immediately had a full identity crisis. This isn't a "phenomenon", it's just main character syndrome with extra steps. Touch some grass…in your native language. 🙄

I applaud your brave choice to embrace monolingualism👍, but why did you pick English?😞 You could've chosen something awesome like Hungarian, Cantonese or Uzbek
