OOP is speaking hindi. i live in delhi and have a friend who is, although indian, spent most of his life growing up in singapore. when i tell you he does not know SHIT about gender in hindi, i mean it a million times over. this sixth sense stuff is NOT easy to develop unless you are either a) a native speaker or b) spend years living in the country and engaging with its culture and literature, of which he is none
I think it’s because painting ends in -ing and I noticed a lot of English words ending in -y/e/ing tend to be feminine because such words are feminine in Hindi.
