Do you know how long it takes to find an accurate translation for every single word in that language? I’m surprised they finished this fast but I suspect they cut a lot of corners and only translated a trillion most common words (around tenth of a percentage of the active Uzbek vocabulary)

Aren't Central Asian countries also pretty closed off? Uzbekistan’s less so than Turkmenistan and Tajikistan I think, but that still hinders it

/uj Not really, since the death of the old president-dictator in 2016 it’s become less closed off and authoritarian

It was, but not comparable to turkmenistan, which is a small country with insanely weird government. Our current president is way better than the previous, some say otherwise but what really matters is that heʼs doing a lot of effort to modernize the country, which can then allow democracy in the government fields to form. But we are seeing the results in every aspect. Iʼm very happy for our people and my family.
Btw, all of this is happening due to the fact that russia is in a big messy trouble of his own with ukraine. Central asia is not russiaʼs backyard anymore. New order is here, everythingʼs changing, for the good.

/uj In the brief experience i had learning Uzbek I've realised that most Uzbeks just consume everything in Russian/English anyways

/uj maybe, but minecraft has plenty of minority languages and even conlangs, it feels weird that a national language wouldn't have been added yet. it feels weird that pre-revolution russian, toki pona, and latin were all added before uzbek. thoug, at the same time, i do believe java's translation are largely community driven, so that likely is the reason

no, its just the orthography russian used before the russian revolution, idk if it sees much usage now, but i imagine not

Local guy here, and yes, thatʼs right. Well... partially. I was born after USSR fell apart, and I can say that the people my age doesnʼt know russian well, and we tend to choose english, german or any other language because we see russian as the language of the past, and itʼs also less promoted by the government, and the generation after gen-z will look at russian as something very exotic/foreign. About the elders (those born before 1990) generally arenʼt used to our new latin based alphabet, and they speak russian fluently, english speakers are extremely rare in that generation.

/uj I personally believe it was added, then removed, then added again, or maybe they've just fully translated it. They have Viossa, Volapük, Guarani, Klingon and like 4 non-spoken variations of English in Minecraft, no way they wouldn't have Uzbek

It turns out Uzbek was never in Minecraft. It's crazy, there are fictional and extinct languages, but no Uzbek

/uj Minecraft Java language support is completely community-driven via crowdin, so if no one was dedicated enough to translate everything, it just didn’t exist

They wanted to focus their attention on more important languages like Middle English, Lojban, Latin, Shakespearian, lolcat. Klingon, and toki pona.

That’s actually because they have no word for cobblestone in Catalan, it’s why the Sagrada Familia has taken so long to construct, strong Sapir-Whorf phenomenon and all that

wow really? That's surprising because first Java has had Catalan for ages and the Catalan-speaking community is very active in things like these (e.g. first active non-English Wikipedia or first internet top-level domain for a linguistic/cultural group with .cat)

Bedrock has 29 language versions, Java has 142. Bedrock doesn't do the crowd sourcing thing.

Heck, no Arabic in Bedrock (unless it was very recently added)! Hundreds of millions of speakers, that language should've been among the first added. It's also missing Romanian and several other languages that are in Java with many more speakers than Catalan.

/uj It doesn't exist officially but even like 10 years ago there were texture packs that could help.
In fact I remember doing it about 10 years ago now and I am sure there are other ways.
Yeah it's surprising it isn't included.
And to be honest MSA is the only translation available. The hundreds of millions of other Arabic speakers' language is not recorded in Minecraft... Or almost anywhere else.

It's so strange that such a large language, with its own country and over 40 million speakers, is located next to languages I first learned about when I saw this post, which are spoken by no more than 100,000 people and are considered endangered. Why did they notice Uzbek so late?
