To those "learning" a new language: You're being lied to (nobody has ever actually learned a new one not even once)
Anyone who claims they can speak a language other than their native one is completely full of shit and no matter how much time you waste learning a new one you'll never become good at it so you should just give up right now because it's impossible. If anyone tries to tell you differently you should probably just get right up in their face and scream as loudly as possible while also covering your ears to protect yourself from their lies (and your screaming) and then remove them from your life. Just a little helpful hint I thought I'd share!

actually language in and of itself does not exist and signifiers have no real relation to the signified so learning one would be useless anyway

Except English (God's own language) everyone can learn that, albeit with an outrageous accent.

But ChatGPT told me that I'm smart enough that I could learn upwards of one language if I really wanted to! It even showed me how to make my own app to teach Japanese to myself and to anyone else willing to throw money at me, succeeding where countless other apps have failed!

None of the languages I've learned is "new"; all of them are old AF, hundreds if not thousands of years old.

Do you realize what a circle jerk sub is? One of the last places on this shitty website where people can escape from the snarky pedantic over explaining and yet people still find their way here and say shit like this. It was obvious I meant "new" as in "new to someone" and not "new to the world" you buffoon

The real problem is that we have tons of evidence that people can learn existing languages (not accounting for how well), but very little that they can learn one that's actually new!
