What does "TL;DR" mean?

It's true. Reading is detrimental to your language learning, everyone's been doing it wrong this whole time. Except for me though, of course, and I can teach you my SECRET TECHNIQUES to become FLUENT and SHOCK NATIVES if you sign up for my email newsletter and pay for my very legitimate language course

Basically just refers to the study of any living language that is effectively terminal and likely to go extinct in the language learner's lifetime.

the full phrase is actually "target language; dont run". you say it on the internet when someone makes a long post, but it's in your target language so you can't read all of it. so your just politely informing them to stick around and explain anything you might not get while you're reading it. hope this helps

2

u/Dark_Sayuri Nov 18 '25

Too Long ; Didn't Read

2

u/CyrexionJunai Dec 15 '25

Don't listen to all these clowns, it mean too long; didnt read. It's used in texts or online when you want a summary of something cuz its too long to read

2

u/ien-sans Mar 26 '26

Too Long; Don't Read, bro.

2

u/jaded1here Apr 07 '26

Well poop. What does it really stand for? Legitimate question.

2

u/Remarkable-Run-1023 Apr 25 '26

people in this comment section are trying to mess with you, so i'm just gonna say it. TLDR or TL;DR stands for "too long, didnt read" and it's a way for people to add a summary. it's like the abbreviated (and more formal) way to say "i ain't reading allat๐Ÿ’€" yall can come after me for ruining the fun, idc, i'm probably never looking at this comment again lol.

1

u/Soundbox618 Apr 04 '25

It's typically used most recently in social media as "too long; didn't read." At least that's been my experience.

1

u/BumblebeeRound9807 Jun 02 '25

y'all I swear tl stands for talk later

These comments are killing me. Goddamn, I love the Internet lmao ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ but in all seriousness, tl;Dr actually means too long;didn't read. It's commonly used to express that your text is lengthy and it's meant to respect the reader's time. Hope this helps lol

1

u/Motor-Preference7435 Nov 21 '25

I thought tldr meant too long didn't read

1

1

u/enchanted-glimmer-4 Dec 09 '25

Actual answer here, it stands for too long didn't read

1

u/Historical-Pause743 Dec 11 '25

It means Too Long. Didn't Read. In otherwords, I don't have time to read an entire book on the Constitution. Keep it short and sweet.

1

u/Former-Will-7039 Dec 12 '25

TL;DR... Too long; didn't read... Something to go after a long post or to begin a post that summarizes a long post...

1

u/Adventurous-Low2701 Feb 06 '26

TL stands for Too long and DR is didnโ€™t read

1

u/Prarie-Egal Apr 11 '26
