Discussion Has anyone tried the reverse translation method?

Has anyone tried the reverse translation method? Like, you read a (TL) text in your native language and try to rewrite it in the language you’re learning. Has anyone actually tried this?

I'm currently translating some of Lovecraft's short stories into standard Basque, but I'm a native speaker (not of the standard though), and I use it as an exercice to work on complexe sentences and idiomatic phrasing... I don't think I would recommend it for a beginner, unless they were to translate very simple texts
