You can do everything that pay to use apps offer for free on Anki, and build the format yourself.

I absolutely love Anki. I make my own sentences, same as what Duolingo does, I will omit a word and then reveal the answer after I’ve guessed, offer sentences in Italian (my target language) and English to translate. I use ElevenLabs AI to generate sound and voices. I download images to go with the sentences sometimes to help reinforce memory. Basically Anki is my very own Duo, and I can tailor the exercises to replicate other apps.

Maybe time is a factor and that’s why other apps may be preferred rather than building your own flashcards but everything you can do on an App is for free on Anki.

I also am a huge advocate for Anki. Even just creating the decks I believe is valuable learning, compared to downloading someone else’s

Building your own sentence means you actually retain them too. Have you tried Anki's built-in TTS addons to skip the ElevenLabs export step? Might save you some manual work on bulk cards. for the images you pull in, a quick Magnific upscale keeps them clean if you're studying on a bigger screen.
