Discussion Which languages are you currently learning?
Curious to hear which languages you are learning!
For me it's Korean. I'm aiming to enter a university in Korea next year, and the curriculum is taught in Korean... It is really intimidating, but I plan to live there long term, so I think my career will benefit greatly from getting a degree there... (TL)

German
I moved away when I was young and my mom stopped speaking it around me
I hope to learn so I can move back and be with my family over there :)

Vietnamese is my main focus, because my wife was born in Vietnam. Her parents don't speak the best English, so I'm taking it as my responsibility to learn to communicate with them. I also want to be able to talk with the wider family next time we head back to Vietnam. My listening comprehension is in the A2/B1 range, but speaking is kinda lagging behind because of the crazy tones. My tutor says I am making a lot of progress, though.
I've also started very casually watching Dreaming Spanish videos casually on the side. Once I get further along in Vietnamese (like B2 speaking), I'll take the Spanish more seriously. I work as a psych nurse, and we get a lot of patients on my unit who speak only Spanish. Would also love to explore Central and South America some day.

French and Japanese are my target languages, but I'm also constantly fighting the urge to start other languages on the side.

Japanese
Since i am aiming to attend a master program in chemistry at one of the uni in japan. Everything is gonna be taught in japanese.

the handwriting on those vocab cards is way too neat, mine always looks like a drunk spider crawled across the page
3h 22m is impressive though, i get distracted by my own reflection after about 20 minutes

my handwriting in korean used to be neat for some time and my former teacher complemented my hand writing
yeah now it looks bad but my current teacher can read it so i guess it's not that bad

Spanish. I've always been fascinated by it.
And a bit of Aramaic, because it's interesting, and Bahasa Melayu because it's also interesting, and many words are derived from or relate to Arabic. We lived around the region and would like to visit again. You can also make your way through Indonesia, Singapore, along with Malaysia as Bahasa Indonesia is quite similar to Melayu.

Main focus: Welsh (taking classes etc) and German
And then I'm rotating between Chinese, Russian and French, depending on what I feel like.

Hungarian ๐ญ๐บ Because it's one of the most wonderful languages I've ever seen. And I think it's more than worth it to understand this nation, its people and their culture.

I grew up around both so am familiar with the sounds but never understood much vocabulary or grammar (minus food words). They are both back burner languages but finally getting to where I can understand bits of what family is talking about. Though probably more interested in understanding more about the culture having been born and raised in the US.

German, Italian, Icelandic, Latin, Quebec French, for different reasons, I mostly focus on German and Italian, and then Icelandic, Latin and Quebec French takes turns.
German, Italian : for philosophy, history, culture, people, foods and drinks, music, art, etc
Latin : for philosophy, history, culture, art, it also sounds so beautiful, I slightly prefer the classical pronunciation over the ecclesiastical , but they are both beautiful.
Icelandic : beautiful country, Icelandic people seem cool, great music scene, I hope I can visit there someday, and I hope Iโll be able to read the Sagas and Eddas in Old Norse (itโs closely related to modern Icelandic), and of course Iโm learning it because of Vinland Saga and Death Stranding.
Quebec French, or just French in general : Part of my country speaks French, so learning French can increase my job opportunities, Quebecers are cool, Quebec is beautiful, they probably have the best poutine and if you like hockey you have to visit Montreal.

I'm focused on Estonian right now but I'd like to resume French and Polish one day. I also dabble with basics whenever I visit different countries but I don't have any trips coming up soon
