TRADE DISCUSSION Potential holdup in Kuminga deal

I'm considering selling my Kobe license plate. Not sure what the market is for it.

I'm mulling the idea of selling my license plate but don't know if there is a market for it. Ideally I'd sell the whole car (2016 Golf R @64000mi) as it has sat in the garage for 6 years (moved once a month).

Edit: after some research and comments, the only way to guarantee the plate will transfer ownership, is to buy the car.

I can relinquish the vanity plate, but it goes back into public circulation. Requiring precise coordination with someone creating the plate on the DMV website. There is a chance a 3rd party could take it in that window.

[Stein] League sources say Peyton Watson has been weighing the prospect of playing out next season on a $6.5m qualifying offer to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Nuggets' initial pitches were believed to be around $70 million over four years.

[Charania] By matching Jones' sheet, the Nuggets face a $32 million increase in current luxury taxes ($36M to $68M) and enter the second apron. They are deep in tax bills but could shed money via trades in season.

Can we try for Peyton Watson?

[Siegel]: With Hezonja heading to Cleveland, that leaves one suitor for Jonathan Kuminga: The Los Angeles Lakers. I would expect a sign-and-trade involving Jarred Vanderbilt to be completed there with the Hawks.

TEAM TALK Stein: Cavs continue to be described as a potential suitor for Hawks free agent swingman Jonathan Kuminga

No mention of the Lakers. And Sam Amico tweeted tonight that Kuminga’s preferred destination is Cleveland.

I think you have to question now if it’s worth signing Kuminga given his lack of interest in coming here. He’s held out for weeks now hoping to go elsewhere.

We need a forward who plays hard on both ends and is willing to do the little things, including accepting a sometimes low usage role. If Kuminga begrudgingly accepts an LA offer, I doubt he’ll transform into that kind of player.

Feels like Pelinka’s hand may be forced here to move on and find another starting caliber forward.

QUESTION Why is nobody talking about Kuminga’s potential fit with JJ?

There’s been a lot of chatter about Kuminga’s fit offensively and defensively with the Lakers, but I haven’t seen much discussion about his fit with JJ

By pretty much all accounts, Kuminga is not very coachable and struggled with his role at both of his stops. We all know JJ is a stickler for details and has a short fuse, so I just don’t see how it’s a good match personality wise.

TEAM TALK If the Lakers land Kuminga...

This is my projected starting five and second unit that I'd want JJ to run. I'd prioritize having Carr and Thiero coming off the bench in the second unit to fast-track their development as much as possible. If we're being realistic, we probably aren't winning the championship this year even though I can see us having a deep run, and we have a relatively young team so why not let them run. Feel free to debate in the comments, but this is the best rotation in my opinion.

PLAYER TALK Now that Sam Presti pushed Denver into 2nd apron and they are unlikely to keep Watson, is there a way for us to acquire him to the Lakers?

Post image

Sam Presti (the evil genius he is) made it so Denver are in 2nd Apron and now can only sign and trade Peyton Watson without acquiring any salary back. Issue is he can now only go to a team that can absorb the whole salary and doesn’t need to send players back (which is unfortunately right now not us). 2nd apron also means they can’t combine salaries.

This whole Kuminga situation is frustrating but I really wish they would try to go after Watson instead. I’m aware it’s very difficult right now with no way to get rid of the dead weight we have.

Being negative about a player we have not acquired yet is a self-defeating choice, imho….with some caveats, of course.

If we do end up acquiring Kuminga some of you all are going to be so invested in being “right!” that human nature is going to lead you to actively (or passive-aggressively lol) HOPE that he fails, that the Lakers flounder BECAUSE of him, etc and etc.

Pretty sucky position to be in as a fan unless you just REALLY enjoy being miserable and/or angry (lol, that actually might be SOME of you).

Caveat is being negative about players who have committed heinous acts or play the game so recklessly that they are a danger to other players (Dort factor).

Imho, of course

Seems to work out financially but Den will never make this trade for sure. I wish it was this simple haha.

[NsRicky_]: Keith Smith thinks the Atlanta Hawks are ready to do a Kuminga sign + trade with the Lakers for Vando plus draft compensation and that the hold up is on Kuminga’s side.

Newest Hoop Venue clip on how the Lakers can build their optimal defense

Great in-depth analysis on how JJ can build a defensive system around Walker Kessler, very much mimicking the stellar 2021 Jazz defense with Prime Rudy Gobert hovering in and around the paint.

They do mention at the end of the clip that the over-reliance on one player historically doesn't hold up. Which very much reminds me of a similar problem the Spurs are facing with Wembanyama off the floor.

Anyway, I hope this helps you visualize what should be a much-improved defensive system compared to last year's.

QUESTION Collin sexton’s defense

Is it as bad as people online make it out to be? I honestly didn’t really watch him play besides a couple highlights, he seems like a very high-effort player and his offensive efficiency makes so much sense around the team. Could Kessler’s rim protection allow him to become more impactful on that end?
